Naruto: Zanka No Tachi

The joint Chūnin Exams, hosted by Konoha, were three days away. Ninjas from various villages had arrived in Konoha.

Konoha's streets were filled with ninjas wearing other villages' forehead protectors and tourists in clothing different from Fire Country style.

These tourists were high-ranking officials and nobles, here to watch the exams.

The Konoha Military Police Force and Anbu were busy monitoring the ninjas.

Fortunately, Konoha's reputation was strong, deterring conflict. No incidents had occurred.

"So this is Konoha. It's ordinary,"

Four ninjas from Iwagakure were strolling. This was a typical team: one jōnin and three genin.

The speaker was Kurotsuchi, a beautiful girl with short black hair, the genin team leader and the granddaughter of the Third Tsuchikage, Ōnoki.

"Remember the information I gave you at the inn. This is an unprecedented Chūnin Exam. The Tsuchikage is paying close attention. Nobles and officials will be watching. You must perform well!"

Ōnoki's son and Kurotsuchi's father, the jōnin instructor, Kitsuchi, said seriously.

"I know, I know. I'm not here to play; I want to meet the strong ninjas mentioned in the intel,"

Kurotsuchi said impatiently.

She overheard a conversation between Konoha villagers.

"Did you hear? Yusuke-sama has a new disciple, participating in the exams."

"Yes, the Kurama clan's genius, Yakumo Kurama. I bet Yusuke-sama's disciple will win!"

"Duh!"

Kurotsuchi became curious. She learned about Yakumo Kurama.

"Dad, your intel is incomplete! Yakumo Kurama isn't on the list,"

Kurotsuchi said, smiling.

Kitsuchi nodded, "Since she's Uchiha Yusuke's disciple, she's a formidable opponent. I'll gather information."

Kurotsuchi quickened her pace, "Why bother? Let's see for ourselves! They said she's training at the Uchiha training grounds."

The Uchiha compound had moved to the village center. The training grounds were visible to passersby.

"Wait! This isn't Iwagakure. Don't cause trouble,"

Kitsuchi tried to stop her, but she ignored him.

"That brat. Akado, Haido, follow her. I'll visit Konoha's higher-ups."

Kitsuchi instructed the other two genin.

Aka-do was short and stout; Hai-do was tall and thin. They were Kurotsuchi's senpais.

Akado and Haido followed Kurotsuchi.

At Konoha's gates, two Sunagakure genin had just registered and were entering the village.

Many Sunagakure ninjas were here, but only Gaara, Temari, and Kankurō were participating; others were observers.

The Fourth Kazekage and the Daimyō of the Land of Wind would watch the final individual matches.

"Gaara's so antisocial; he didn't come with us. I wonder if he's arrived,"

Kankurō, a boy with painted face, and a bandaged object on his back, complained.

Temari, his sister, wearing a short kimono and carrying a large fan, ignored him. She looked serious and troubled.

"This mission is risky. I don't know the consequences,"

Thinking of her father, the Fourth Kazekage, Rasa's instructions, Temari felt uneasy.

"As a ninja, I must obey. The outcome is up to fate!"

She felt a bump; her thoughts returned to reality.

She saw a boy, Konohamaru, sitting on the ground.

"Hey! Are you looking for trouble?!"

Temari was about to apologize, but Kankurō intervened. Temari understood; he wasn't just being unreasonable.

Three Konoha genin approached—Naruto, Sasuke, and Yota—a couple of years younger than Temari and Kankurō.

Naruto had been playing with Konohamaru, who bumped into Temari.

After the Third Hokage's death and the loss of his parents and grandfather, Konohamaru only had Asuma. Minato had asked Naruto to look after Konohamaru.

Naruto, as the Fourth Hokage's son, was far more influential and powerful than in the original story. Konohamaru, Moegi, and Udon admired Naruto.

Naruto stood before Konohamaru, arms crossed, "She was distracted too! It's both their faults!"

Temari was about to stop Kankurō, but he signaled her. She understood; he had a reason.
