Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Reinforcements
"This is...!"
"The forbidden technique of that Second Hokage?!"
As the Second Tsuchikage, Mū, regained consciousness and examined his state, his expression turned grave.
"Mū-sama! Is that you?"
Beside him, the trembling voice of a reanimated Ōnoki broke the silence.
"Ōnoki? You've been reanimated too? Judging by your appearance, quite some time must have passed. Seeing you this old, I suppose you died of natural causes. Iwagakure must have gone through five or six Tsuchikage by now!"
Mū scrutinized the old man carefully before recognizing his former student. Realizing how advanced Ōnoki's age was when he passed, Mū felt a sense of relief.
The Kage of the Five Great Shinobi Nations rarely lived long lives, as most met their end on the battlefield. For Ōnoki to live so long proved that Iwagakure had grown powerful enough to shield even its leader from such fates.
It seemed he had made the right decision entrusting Ōnoki with the mantle of Tsuchikage.
Mū nodded approvingly, his gaze softening as he looked at his former student.
"Mū-sama… I failed you! Iwagakure… it's gone! Senju Tobirama wiped it out!"
Ōnoki's evasive eyes betrayed his guilt, but the words that left his lips shocked Mū to the core.
Luckily, his entire body was wrapped in bandages, concealing the disbelief etched across his face.
"What in the world happened?"
"Kinkaku, this looks like that Senju Tobirama's technique."
Ginkaku narrowed his gaze at Kinkaku's dark brown pupils, recalling an unpleasant memory.
Back when the Gold and Silver Brothers ambushed and killed the Second Raikage, they led an elite unit to pursue the Hokage's peace delegation, resulting in a fierce clash with Senju Tobirama.
During that battle, they witnessed this technique.
At the time, however, Edo Tensei was in its infancy, and the reanimated subjects were weak, little more than undying shields. That allowed Tobirama to perish alongside them in a mutual kill.
"I remember clearly. That guy should've died with us…"
Kinkaku scratched his head, his limited brainpower failing to piece together the situation. His wandering gaze fell upon the reanimated Second Raikage, and a sly grin spread across his face.
"The Second Raikage's been reanimated too!"
"Enough chatter, everyone. The reason I reanimated you is simple: to kill the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama! Now, get moving!"
Orochimaru's sharp voice cut through the rising commotion as the reanimated figures began reminiscing.
"And who do you think you are to order us around?"
Kinkaku and Ginkaku glared menacingly at Orochimaru. They had slain both the Raikage and the Hokage before—what made this upstart, who had merely stolen Tobirama's forbidden technique, think he could command them?
Though the other reanimated individuals stayed silent, their disdain for Orochimaru and the Rinnegan-wielding figure beside him, Tendo Pain, was evident.
Among them, however, Mū—after learning the truth from Ōnoki—seethed with hatred for Tobirama, eager for revenge.
"Orochimaru!" Tendo barked, urging him to act.
Across the battlefield, Senju Tobirama had vanished from the statue he had been standing on, leaving only Uchiha Itachi behind.
"Since you refuse the easy way..." Orochimaru sneered, forming a hand seal.
Instantly, the reanimated individuals lost control of their bodies. Though their consciousnesses remained intact, allowing them to speak and observe, their actions were now entirely dictated by Orochimaru.
This method was not without its drawbacks. Controlling so many individuals strained Orochimaru's already weakened spirit, a consequence of his previous body-swapping technique. But erasing their minds entirely would diminish their combat power too severely to pose a threat to Tobirama.
"Twelve of you—attack Uchiha Itachi!"
"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!" ×2
"Water Release: Water Gun Technique!"
Mū and Ōnoki launched twin Dust Release attacks, their massive beams of white light converging on Itachi. Simultaneously, a powerful stream of water, shot from a reanimated member of the Hozuki Clan, barreled toward him.
Uchiha Itachi immediately activated his Mangekyō Sharingan, summoning his complete Susanoo.
A towering, fifty-meter-tall orange giant enveloped Itachi, nearly crushing the surrounding terrain.
"Yata Mirror!"
Susanoo swiftly detached the massive Yata Mirror from its chest, raising it to block the Dust Release beams. The water bullet, meanwhile, bounced harmlessly off Susanoo's formidable defense.
"Itachi's Susanoo has grown even stronger. Could this be the true power of a god?"
Through the eyes of his controlled pawns, Orochimaru watched the scene unfold, his jealousy nearly palpable.
"If I can't have it, I'll destroy it!" he hissed, licking his lips in twisted delight.
Tendo, on the other hand, was focused solely on one question: where had Senju Tobirama gone?
"Hell Stab: One-Finger Nukite!"
The Third Raikage, clad in his perfected Lightning Release Chakra Mode, concentrated his chakra into a single finger and thrust it toward Susanoo.
With a deafening crack, the nigh-indestructible Susanoo fractured at the leg, the fissure rapidly spreading upward.
"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!" ×2
Mū and Ōnoki's massive cube-shaped Dust Release engulfed Susanoo, disintegrating it piece by piece.
Outmatched, Itachi drew the Totsuka Blade, slicing through the air to absorb the Second Raikage and Third Kazekage into its gourd.
But the relentless assault from the remaining reanimated shinobi finally shattered Susanoo, forcing Itachi into the river below.
"Boil Release: Skilled Mist Technique!"
"Earth Release: Ultra-Added-Weight Rock Technique!"
A storm of techniques descended, blanketing the area.
At that moment, Senju Tobirama returned—with none other than Senju Hashirama at his side.
"Wood Release: Wood Human Technique!"
A massive wooden figure rose, its towering hands shielding Itachi and scattering the incoming attacks.
Orochimaru and Tendo could only watch in stunned silence as the tides of battle shifted once more.
