Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Top of Last Year’s Class... Apparently
Location: Konoha Training Ground 12 – Mid-Morning
The sun was high and the wind was warm. A dozen students and a few chunin watched from the sidelines, murmuring. Graduation tests usually involved clone techniques or kunai throwing — not one-on-one sparring.
The Hokage had allowed students to watch so they could gain real experience and understand what a proper ninja battle looked like.
The Third Hokage sat near the students, but most of their attention was on him — not the fight.
Iruka stood at the center of the field with a clipboard, clearly uncertain about the setup.
Otis stood shirtless and barefoot,
On the other side stood a lean genin with spiky brown hair, some smugness in his grin, and twin daggers strapped to his thighs. His name was Kento.
"So this is the mountain I've gotta chip away at?" Kento smirked, stretching his neck as he eyed Otis.
"Okay, listen up," Iruka announced. "This is a special graduation match. One round. No killing. First to submit, be immobilized, or fall unconscious — loses."
He looked at Otis, then at kento, then… back at Otis again.
"Try not to break anything important."
Otis didn't answer.
Kento bounced on his feet, grinning. "He's probably too slow to hit me!"
Otis blinked once.
Iruka raised his hand.
"Begin!"
Kento shot forward immediately, fast and aggressive. He launched a low sweeping kick, aiming to knock Otis off balance early
Otis didn't dodge.
He shifted.
Just a tiny movement — almost lazy.
Kento's leg collided with solid muscle.
"OW—!"
He recoiled immediately, hopping on one foot, pain jolting up his shin.
Still wincing, Kento dashed again, blades flashing — aiming for Otis's ribs.
Otis tilted his body just slightly. Kento's first blade scraped against muscle that felt like stone.
"Tch—"
Otis stepped into the attack.
Not dodging. Not blocking.
Kento was intimidated by his sudden approach mid battle.
Kento stumbled backward — surprised at the pressure. But Otis wasn't even throwing punches. He was just… walking forward
"Man, what are you?" Kento hissed, leaping back and tossing a smoke bomb.
Bang!
Smoke engulfed the field.
Kento circled to Otis's blind side. He closed the distance in seconds,
Dropping low, he aimed another sweeping kick at Otis's legs.
Otis moved for the first time.
He didn't block.
He just… caught Kento's leg mid-swing.
His massive hand wrapped around Kento's ankle.
There was a pause.
Kento blinked, awkwardly hopping on his remaining leg.
"Uh—hey—"
"Hey let go!"
And Then Otis lifted him.
He didn't slam him.
Didn't throw him.
Just … lifted the boy by his leg until he was dangling upside down, like a mildly annoyed parent holding a toddler.

Kento flailed a little, arms swinging. His arms couldn't even reach reach Otis while he was upside down
"Okay! Okay! You made your point—put me down, man—!" kento said, his voice has fear
Otis looked at Iruka.
"Is this enough?"
Iruka, stunned for a beat, cleared his throat and nodded. "Y-Yes. Match over. You can… put him down now."
Otis gently lowered Kento until he was sitting on the grass — and he wobbled slightly and coughed.
Otis crouched beside him.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," Kento muttered.
Otis just nodded.
Then both of them performed the seal of reconciliation.
Iruka handed over the graduation form to otis
"C-Congrats. You're officially a genin."
Silence—not even the sounds of birds can be heard
Every student, once excited to be near the Hokage, now sat wide-eyed and speechless — jaws dropped at the absurdly one-sided spar. Many began wondering: What can you even do when someone can hold you upside down, and your hands don't even reach?

The Third Hokage sat in his chair, sipping hot tea as Otis's graduation match unfolded before him.
He had been talking to the students about the Will of Fire.
Now his attention was... elsewhere.
"Hmm. Otis's graduation match. Should be interesting," he murmured.
Then — he saw Otis catch the genin's leg mid-kick and calmly lift him upside down like a grocery bag.
There was a pause.
Then—
"PFFT—!!"
Hiruzen spat his tea
"What in the—?!"
He coughed, clearing his throat, eyes wide.
One of the ANBU hiding in the tree shifted awkwardly.
"...Are you alright, Lord Hokage?"
Hiruzen held up a hand, still staring.
"Fine. I'm fine. Just…"
He turned slowly, grumbling.
"Someone get me a chunin. A good one. That wasn't a fight — that was babysitting."
The ANBU tilted his head. "With respect, sir, that genin was top of last year's class."
"Then last year's class was made of dandelions," Hiruzen muttered.
He exhaled, rubbing his eyes.
"I've seen toads put up more resistance."
Another sip of tea.
Another glare at the field.
"Tell Iruka he gets one more shot. And make sure the next opponent doesn't fit inside Otis's hand."
He stood up, grumbling to himself.
"And tell Otis to report to my office."

Location: Hokage's Office – Afternoon
The room smelled faintly of old scrolls and tobacco.
Hiruzen stood behind his desk, looking at a report. His pipe sat untouched in the tray. Otis stood across from him, silent, hands by his sides.
"So…" Hiruzen said, tapping the scroll.
"You lifted him."
He already knew, of course — but asked anyway.
Otis nodded once.
"By the leg."
Another nod.
"And held him upside down."
"It worked," Otis replied.
Hiruzen sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "It did. And it terrified three academy students who were watching from the roof, by the way."
Otis blinked. "I didn't notice."
"Of course you didn't."
Hiruzen set the scroll aside.
"Otis… you're not exactly a normal case. You know that."
"I know."
"Which is why—" he leaned forward, voice dry, "—you're going to fight someone a little closer to your level."
Otis tilted his head. "You're assigning a second test?"
"No. I'm correcting the first one."
He pulled another folder from a drawer and handed it over.
"Tomorrow. Training Ground 5. A chunin will be waiting."
Otis looked down at the paper, then back up. "Am I failing?"
"No. You're graduating either way. But I need to see how you fare against a chunin."
Otis gave a short nod. "Understood."
Hiruzen narrowed his eyes, serious for a moment.
A quiet moment passed.
Hiruzen sighed again. "One last thing."
Otis looked up.
"Try to fight a little seriously."
Otis blinked once. Then nodded.
"I'll use my hands."
Hiruzen slapped his forehead
"That's what I'm afraid of."
