Naruto: The Savior of the Shinobi World is a Liar?

Chapter 69: Chapter 70: The Advancing Pain

Just as Hanzō angrily questioned Zetsu, a number of figures among the Amegakure villagers behind him suddenly turned to run.

This scene caught Hanzō off guard, but it didn't surprise Hyuga Kumo at all.

"Now that you're here, do you think you can leave?"

Hyuga Kumo raised his eyes slightly, and several shadows shot out from his body.

Puh! Puh! The shadows stabbed like spears into the chests of a few individuals, eliciting their painful, shrieking cries.

Upon seeing this, the Amegakure villagers came to their senses, their expressions changing with anger as one voice shouted, "What are you doing?!"

"Shut up, you fool!"

Before that person could finish speaking or the others could take any rash actions, Hanzō's cold voice interrupted, "Open your eyes and see, is that a 'comrade'?!"

Hearing this, the anger in the Amegakure villagers faded for a moment as they instinctively looked closely, only to discover that the splatters on the ground were not crimson blood, but rather a white liquid.

And those who had been pierced by the shadow spikes were gradually being overtaken by the black shadows, revealing their white bodies through their screams.

These people were all disguised as Zetsu.

"How is this possible?" Shinda beside Hanzō stammered, "Huitai, Minghong, Junya…"

Hyuga Kumo paid no heed to the fear of the Amegakure villagers, redirecting his attention to the Zetsu held by Hanzō.

This was a high-quality sacrifice that could be used for the Edo Tensei.

It couldn't be wasted by Hanzō killing it.

With this thought, the black shadows spread like liquid, reaching toward Zetsu's body. Upon seeing this, Hanzō furrowed his brows and loosened his grip.

"No, no! Don't come over here! You monster!"

Zetsu gurgled and whimpered from its throat, much like a frightened child, frantically flailing its arms as if trying to shake the substance off.

But it was futile. Eventually, it was completely cocooned in the black "pupa," losing all sound.

Gulp! Gulp! The moonlight illuminated the surface of the "pupa," which wriggled slightly, causing a deep sense of discomfort to rise from within.

Deep in a certain cavern in the Land of Rain, a massive pitcher plant quietly closed its trap, and Tendo Pain sat on a stone seat with his eyes shut.

Just then, the stone wall began to writhe, and a Zetsu suddenly emerged from it.

"Main body!"

As if sensing something incredible, it looked at the sitting pitcher plant and said in disbelief, "The Zetsu responsible for monitoring Amegakure have suddenly lost contact all at once!"

Upon hearing this, the pitcher plant opened wide, revealing Zetsu's black-and-white face, exclaiming, "Impossible!"

But in the next moment, Zetsu itself sensed it, realizing that it had genuinely lost contact.

"What's going on?"

The cold, emotionless voice of Pain, resembling a dead man, echoed.

Zetsu looked towards Tendo Pain and said, "There may have been some changes with Hanzō and Amegakure."

In response, Pain's expression remained inscrutable, yet his brows furrowed slightly.

"Could it be the five great nations?" he asked coldly. "Didn't you say yesterday that you discovered many spies infiltrating the Land of Rain?"

"No, it won't be." Zetsu shook its head, speaking with confidence, "They haven't discovered my abilities."

While Zetsu's abilities were nearly identical to those that Madara acquired from the Otsutsuki's methods, some special individual Zetsu had their own areas of specialization.

For instance, the half-Zetsu possessed by Black Zetsu was one of the two powerful Zetsu created by Uchiha Madara; the other was the spiral Zetsu worn by Obito, which was the true "Tobi."

The half-Zetsu was the most adept among all Zetsu in the "Mayfly Technique" and "Transformation Technique."

Not only could it move at high speed by intertwining with organic networks such as plant roots and underground water flows without a trace, but it could also absorb other people's chakra to mimic their appearance and chakra, making it indistinguishable even to those most familiar or perceptive.

"Tobi" was the most skilled in combat among the Zetsu, whose body could "wrap" around a person, allowing it to use that individual's abilities while enhancing their overall power and even utilizing strong Wood Release techniques.

Those dispatched to stealthily gather intelligence were spawned through the division of the half-Zetsu and were powerful enough to imitate and conceal their presence.

Given Hanzō and Amegakure's abilities, how could they possibly identify them?

But why now? Why during their preparations to act against Amegakure? And why was it while "Lord Madara" was away heading towards Konoha?

"...If that's the case."

Tendo Pain was silent for a long time, as if the consciousness controlling him, Nagato, was withdrawing. After a brief moment, he stood up and said calmly, "I was already planning to kill Hanzō and take back control of Amegakure, so we might as well go now."

Though his words hinted at questioning, his tone and actions made it evident that he didn't care whether Zetsu agreed or not.

"What?"

Zetsu was momentarily taken aback, and Black Zetsu also opened its eyes. Yet before it could say anything, Pain cast a cold glance in its direction.

"Is there a problem?" he asked in a chilling tone.

"This... ought we not wait for Lord Madara to return before planning?" Zetsu tentatively suggested.

The "Lord Madara" it spoke of was none other than Obito, who had inherited Madara's name.

Pain stared deeply at it and calmly stated, "We are still only in a cooperative relationship."

With that, he no longer waited for Zetsu to respond and vanished into the depths of the cavern.

The Nagato behind Pain never fully trusted Zetsu or that person who called himself "Uchiha Madara."

For now, their relationship was one of mutual utilization and wariness of each other.

"What should we do now?" White Zetsu inquired.

"…"

Black Zetsu's dark face revealed no expression, but deep down there was an inexplicable sense of unease.

The sudden occurrence reminded it of the mysterious "outworlder," but it could also be an overreaction fueled by paranoia.

It was akin to the emergence of a strange player on a chessboard that had previously only had itself controlling the pieces.

Black Zetsu had not pressured Nagato and Obito and had maintained a low-key and composed demeanor.

But that was due to its grasp of the past and future of the ninja world; even someone as powerful as Uchiha Madara was merely a piece for it.

Now with the appearance of the "outworlder," all of its calmness and arrogance had been thoroughly shattered.

If this pair of Rinnegan wasn't what it had waited a thousand years for, in Black Zetsu's nature, it would have likely snatched away the Rinnegan and hidden it away—waiting until the identity of the outworlder was confirmed before appearing.

But it couldn't afford to; this was their best and final opportunity. It had to be cautious and leave no room for mistakes.

However, as Obito's "appendage," it could not forcibly stop Nagato; after all, Nagato had yet to completely trust them. Interfering would only arouse Nagato's suspicions.

"Let Tobi follow Nagato."

After contemplating for a moment, it spoke in a hoarse and deep voice, "We must find Lord Madara; only he can convince Nagato."
