Chapter 68: Chapter 69: Zetsu: What the Hell Are You?!
"Ha! Ha!"
Hatake Kakashi almost threw himself out.
He collapsed into the water outside the tower, gasping heavily, fear and the limits of his endurance causing sweat to flow down like streams.
His legs had almost lost all feeling; from his feet to his thighs, they were covered in charred marks, and his muscles twitched uncontrollably, with dark red burns visible beneath his skin.
Clearly, he had stimulated his body with Lightning Release chakra to escape, not even having the chance to use Doton: Doryūheki for defense.
So, the others...
Bang!!
A bone-cracking, ear-splitting explosion echoed as two figures suddenly flew out and crashed into him, and Kakashi instinctively reached out to catch them, sliding back several steps before stabilizing himself.
Furrowing his brow, he looked down to see two familiar faces, and he was filled with both surprise and joy.
Hyuga Kumo, and Tenzo—Kumo was merely exhausted, but Tenzo's abdomen had been pierced, looking as if a piece had been ripped out of him.
Right, Kaiten doesn't require hand seals, and Kumo actually saved Tenzo! Having already gained a basic understanding of that guy's abilities, although troublesome, if Kumo was able to help... was there still a chance...
"Kakashi... Sensei..."
The 'Hyuga Kumo' he caught spoke with a voice that was hoarse from exhaustion, "Hurry, Hanzō and those Amegakure shinobi are about to attack!"
At these words, it felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over Kakashi, instantly waking him up.
Hanzō had been swayed by that guy; just relying on him and Kumo was not enough to deal with so many enemies.
Staggering to his feet, Kakashi looked up toward the tower.
Damn it! If it weren't for that suddenly appearing guy, the alliance between Konoha and Amegakure would have already been established!
Now, those ten or so people he brought with him were likely all dead!
The sounds from inside the tower gradually quieted down; Kakashi realized they needed to leave immediately, gritting his teeth as he helped the two escape.
Meanwhile, inside the high tower, Hanzō and the Amegakure shinobi stepped in. They instinctively flared their nostrils, catching a whiff of the pervasive bloody scent, and many faces turned pale.
What they saw was a scene of garish scarlet, resembling a gushing blood fountain that had opened an artery, the thick, crimson blood already eroded and engulfing the ground.
The crowd instinctively looked up; beneath the moonlight, the web formed by shadows hung silently in the air.
Cruel, evil, bloody, and brutal—yet there was a twisted beauty to it.
Meanwhile, several Konoha shinobi who still bore a semblance of life struggled, suspended by the dark shadows above, only to find they could not utilize their chakra to escape, cursing helplessly.
As the darkness gradually covered their bodies from below, their curses turned into low whimpers and pleas for mercy, ultimately fading into a chilling silence.
Everyone could sense the wrathful carnage above, an oppressive and suffocating aura clinging to them, enough to make them tremble in fear and grit their teeth, wanting to escape.
"…"
Hanzō took a deep breath, as if trying to expel the chill in his chest and the overpowering scent of blood.
"Are the words you spoke true?" He looked up at the shadow above and said in a deep voice, "We can purchase materials at a ten percent mark-up based on black market prices; however, what you mentioned at the end..."
The Land of Rain and Amegakure never lacked money; they were actually quite developed in the steel industry.
Moreover, Amegakure was infamous for its assassination skills—many had developed the habit of hiring Amegakure shinobi for assassinations and, therefore, often received a steady stream of lucrative missions.
However, the Land of Rain lacked food. In peacetime, they could buy it with money, but in wartime, trade would be cut off, and they could not purchase grain. Even if merchants dared to take risks, they couldn't handle the skyrocketing prices.
If Hyuga Kumo could indeed provide food, they would truly dare to fight the five great nations to the end.
But what Hanzō was most concerned about was that last statement.
"Are you saying a young body and greater power?"
Hyuga Kumo stored Tenzo's blood and flesh into a scroll, then raised his foot to step on the invisible shadows, slowly descending amidst the cautious and fearful gazes of the onlookers.
Now they could finally see this guy's appearance—a long black robe that flowed seamlessly over his body, completely obscuring his features in shadow.
Facing Hanzō's murky yet sharp gaze, Hyuga Kumo paused before him and smiled softly, "Don't move."
As his words fell, he extended his hand toward Hanzō. Shinda's expression changed slightly, and he was about to step forward to stop it, but Hanzō calmly said, "Do as he says."
Shinda and the Amegakure shinobi froze in place, while at the same time, Hyuga Kumo placed his hand on Hanzō's shoulder.
In the next moment, dark, winding lines spread out from his palm, crawling up Hanzō's body.
This was the Lite Version of "Karma."
Like the complete "Karma," it possessed the ability to absorb and release ninjutsu, along with certain effects of "Yin Sealing" and "Heavenly Curse Mark."
In simple terms, it didn't quite have the ability to completely replicate the Otsutsuki's genetic material but could only manage a parasitic relationship at the chakra and soul level.
Much like how Minato and Kushina sealed some of their chakra within Naruto in the original work, Hyuga Kumo could converse directly with the host of "Karma."
With this technique, Hyuga Kumo could accomplish many things and quietly access those he couldn't approach in his true form...
Buzzing! Buzzing! Feeling the gentle yet dominating chakra flood into his body, Hanzō frowned and opened his mouth to say something, but before he could speak, he suddenly went silent.
Because, in his stunned expression, he realized that white tendrils were emerging from his shoulder...
"Ah!!"
Accompanied by a terrifying, piercing scream, a white humanoid creature twisted out, starting from his head and then his torso.
"What the hell is this thing?!" x2 The white humanoid figure and Hanzō voiced their shock in unison.
Hanzō didn't know what was happening, but Kumo was fully aware.
Zetsu.
It had long been parasitically embedded within Hanzō, responsible for surveilling him and relaying information, remaining stable all these years.
Until this suddenly appearing guy…
"How is this possible?!"
Zetsu writhed in form like white liquid being squeezed out and emerged from Hanzō's body, letting out screams just like a human, its white face filled with terror: "What the hell are you?!"
That black substance, which clearly resembled chakra, had forced it out of Hanzō's body! It was a creature cultivated from the Edo Tensei and Hashirama's cells, but the chakra it was experiencing felt even more ferocious and dominating than Hashirama's cells!
It was as if it viewed Hanzō's body as its own property, refusing to allow any foreign entities to remain in its territory.
"This question should be directed at me!"
Before Zetsu could get a response, it was violently seized by Hanzō, who clutched its throat and yanked it out of his body with brute force.
"What the hell are you?!"
Hanzō glared at it fiercely, his expression twisted in rage as he demanded, "How did you end up inside me? When did this happen..."
