Chapter 356: Chapter 356: I Can’t Stand It, but I Can’t Get Rid of It

"A bunch of useless trash! Why don't you just die already!" Shimura Danzo roared, shredding yet another request from the nobles into pieces. His patience had reached its limit.

While the nobles' demands were undeniably absurd, their audacity to impose such extravagance while seeking refuge in Konoha only added insult to injury. It was as if they were deliberately testing the limits of everyone's tolerance.

The nobles defended their behavior with a single argument: "We were assassinated in the Daimyo Mansion, and we came here for safety. Shouldn't we be allowed some comfort to calm our nerves?"

Danzo seethed with fury. He could tolerate a lot, but this level of entitlement was infuriating. Back in the Daimyo Mansion, they at least had some restraint. But here in Konoha, they acted with complete impunity.

To make matters worse, the underlying implication was clear: if anything happened to the nobles while they were in Konoha, it would be seen as Konoha's failure.

A Storm Spreading Across the Ninja World

News of the assassinations and the nobles' subsequent flight to Konoha spread like wildfire across the ninja world, reaching the ears of nobles and Daimyo in other nations. The idea of being assassinated in their own mansions struck fear into their hearts.

If high-ranking nobles of the Fire Nation could be killed, who was to say they wouldn't be next? Panic set in, and soon, nobles across the major nations began emulating the Fire Nation's example, fleeing to their respective ninja villages for protection.

What was initially a localized issue in Konoha was now turning into a trend.

Pressure on Konoha

Back in Konoha, the nobles from the Daimyo Mansion continued their antics. They visited the Hokage's office daily, each time with new demands, complaints, or concerns.

Under mounting pressure, the Third Hokage finally dispatched a team to investigate the assassinations. However, the investigation's pace, direction, and even its sincerity were left entirely to his discretion.

For now, keeping the nobles appeased was a higher priority.

Speculations in Iwa Ninja Village

Meanwhile, in the Tsuchikage's office in Iwa Ninja Village, Kitsutchi , Onoki's son, gleefully placed the news scroll on the desk.

"Father—oh, I mean, Lord Tsuchikage—who do you think is behind this?" Kitsutchi asked with a mischievous grin.

"Call me Lord Tsuchikage!" Onoki snapped, glaring at his son.

"Okay, Lord Tsuchikage," Kitsutchi said, smirking. "But seriously, this seems strange. Would ordinary assassins dare to target nobles of the Fire Nation?"

Onoki sighed, too tired to chastise his son further. Folding his arms, he leaned back in his chair. "If I had to guess, the most likely suspect is Konoha itself."

"Konoha? They'd assassinate their own nobles?" Kitsutchi asked, puzzled.

Onoki, now visibly frustrated, slapped his son's chest—his height prevented him from reaching his face. "Use your brain for once! I said suspicion! Just because we suspect them doesn't mean they actually did it."

Onoki continued, his voice tinged with annoyance. "Konoha has been in conflict with their Daimyo's mansion since the war. Tensions have been high. Creating a crisis like this could force the Daimyo and his nobles to rely more heavily on Konoha for protection."

Kitsuchi nodded thoughtfully. "I guess that makes sense. But wouldn't such actions create even more problems for Konoha?"

"Of course," Onoki replied, his tone sharp. "That's why it's only a suspicion. Even rogue ninjas wouldn't normally target nobles from major countries. Doing so would make their lives even harder. No one wants every ninja village hunting them down."

Onoki knew the risks associated with assassinating prominent figures. Unless someone was offering an enormous bounty, it wasn't worth the danger. And so far, no bounty had surfaced for these nobles.

Reactions in Other Villages

While Iwa Ninja Village speculated on the situation, the response in Kumo Ninja Village was far more pragmatic. The Third Raikage read the report, shrugged, and tossed it aside.

"This doesn't concern us," he said flatly. "Whether Konoha is behind this or not, it's their problem. Our focus should remain on acquiring resources, not meddling in the affairs of the Fire Nation's nobles."

For the Raikage, the priority was simple: expanding Kumo's resource base, especially its mines. Unlike the rich deposits in the Fire Nation, Kumo's ores were of average quality and difficult to extract.

The Raikage's pragmatic dismissal highlighted the contrast in approaches between the villages. While Konoha dealt with a flood of nobles and mounting logistical challenges, Kumo stayed focused on practical gains.

Back in Konoha

Shimura Danzo's frustration boiled over as he tore apart yet another file. "They're nothing but parasites!" he growled.

The Third Hokage, watching with mild amusement, couldn't resist a jab. "You're the one who started this, Danzo. Enjoy cleaning up your mess."

Danzo scowled but said nothing. He knew the Hokage was right—his plan to instill fear in the Daimyo had backfired spectacularly. Now, Konoha was stuck with an influx of entitled nobles demanding luxury while contributing little.

With tensions rising, the Third Hokage puffed on his pipe, contemplating his next move. The chaos created by the assassinations had spiraled out of control, and the question remained: could Konoha weather the storm, or would it collapse under the weight of its own schemes?
