Chapter 315: Chapter 315: The More Power Konoha Has, The Harder It Is to Mess With
"I ride a horse! Are you kidding me, Hiruzen?"
Homura was fuming internally. Watching the Third Hokage finally come to terms with Kushina's loyalty, he felt both amused and exasperated.
How did this man get so clueless?
Akimichi Torifu couldn't resist bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha! Oh, Monkey! You used to be so sharp about matters like this. What happened? Age catching up with you?"
The Hokage's face darkened immediately.
Damn it!
He finally realized the glaring truth. Kushina wasn't a flight risk; her attachment to Shinki was the real problem. Instead of worrying about her leaving Konoha, he should be concerned about her future fights with Tsunade over Shinki.
What a headache…
The Hokage cursed his own stupidity for not seeing it earlier. No wonder Shinki had left without further explanation—he clearly thought it wasn't worth wasting his time.
Torifu, still chuckling, leaned back in his chair, clutching his belly.
The Hokage sighed heavily, finally admitting his mistake. "Fine. I was wrong. I shouldn't have worried about Kushina's loyalty."
Seeing him admit fault, Torifu stopped laughing, albeit with a visible effort.
"Good. Then let's focus on what really matters—how Kushina's news will impact the village," Homura said, pushing his glasses up his nose.
Akimichi Torifu and Nara Shikashin exchanged knowing glances, leaving Homura to explain.
"It's simple," Homura began. "When news of Kushina's strength spreads, the rest of the ninja world will think twice before provoking us. With Shinki, Kushina, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, Hatake Sakumo, and other new-generation elites, Konoha's deterrent power will only grow stronger."
Homura paused to let the weight of his words sink in.
"Even if some villages have ambitions, they'll have to seriously evaluate their strength before making a move. Konoha is already hard to mess with—this will make us nearly untouchable."
The Third Hokage nodded slowly. He didn't like admitting it, but Homura was right.
After three years of war, Konoha was in a weakened state. Its war potential had been stretched thin, and it desperately needed strong individuals to maintain its standing in the ninja world.
"Alright," the Hokage said at last. "We'll handle Kushina's situation as Shinki suggested. No more surveillance, no more restrictions. And we'll let the news spread naturally."
Homura raised an eyebrow. "Oh? No more surveillance? Since when has anyone dared spy on Kushina under Shinki's watch?"
Everyone fell silent for a moment, recalling the puppets Shinki used to monitor and protect those close to him. Kushina, Tsunade, Nawaki, and even Namikaze Minato had benefitted from this subtle protection.
The village elders, however, were notably excluded.
Shinki had made it clear he wasn't a bodyguard for Konoha's leadership. If they wanted protection, they could manage it themselves.
"Well," the Hokage muttered, "I suppose that's one less thing to worry about."
Back at the Construction Site
Meanwhile, Shinki returned to find the cleanup well underway. The damage had been assessed, and the construction team was already clearing debris.
Tsunade was directing the crew, her face streaked with dust and irritation.
"Kushina bought up all the surrounding properties," she grumbled, folding her arms. "She wants a massive house—a villa. This girl has way too much money for her age."
Shinki couldn't help but laugh.
"It's not surprising. She's at the age where showing off is normal. If she weren't excited to flaunt her success, I'd be worried something was wrong."
Tsunade snorted, wiping her hands on her dusty jacket.
"Still, it's annoying. She's got the money to do whatever she wants, while I'm over here trying to figure out how to pay for a new sake stash."
"Where is she now?" Shinki asked, still smiling.
"Showing off to her little friends," Tsunade replied with a wave of her hand. "She's probably boasting about her victory and telling them to come see her new house."
Shinki chuckled. It was classic Kushina—her fiery personality was as much about fun as it was about determination.
"Well, let her enjoy it. She's earned this moment," Shinki said. "And don't worry about the house. Once the team clears the site, I'm sure Kushina will have the biggest and grandest home in the area."
Tsunade sighed, shaking her head.
"She's planning a villa, Shinki. A villa. She's got the money to make it happen, but it's hard not to feel a little envious."
Shinki grinned. "Then maybe it's time you started charging for all the free medical care you give people."
Tsunade gave him a look, but even she couldn't suppress a small smile.
As the construction team continued their work, Shinki couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Konoha was changing, growing stronger with each passing day.
With Kushina's strength on full display, the village's future looked brighter—and far more secure.
