Chapter 24: A Name Without a Past

Tang Yue blinked in confusion. "My… boyfriend?"

Noticing her puzzled expression, the nurse smiled and quickly explained, "Yes, your boyfriend came in with you. You should've seen the look on his face. He looked absolutely terrified of losing you. You're really lucky to have someone who cares that much."

She sighed dreamily, a hint of envy coloring her tone. "He even paid the entire bill on the spot, so casually too. Honestly, I was kind of jealous."

What she didn't know was that he didn't have to worry about money because of the new friends he'd recently made.

Watching the nurse practically daydream, Tang Yue frowned and tried to recall if she did have a boyfriend. After a second, she shook her head. No. She was single.

Sure, she was hot, flirtatious, and an adult who had her life together, but she definitely wasn't in a relationship right now.

She remembered everything clearly.

She'd been tailing her target to a supposed meeting when things went sideways. It was a trap. She'd been discovered.

The man behind it wasn't just any enemy. He was a high-level mage, one rank above her. Still, he was new and inexperienced. Normally, she could've escaped. Her second element was Shadow, after all, perfect for a clean getaway.

But she'd been poisoned.

The effects kicked in too fast, too strong, and the situation spun out of her control.

In those final moments, as she lost consciousness, she was sure it was the end for her. Goodbye, world, she'd thought.

And yet, she woke up in a hospital bed.

Someone had saved her.

She'd immediately concluded as much, but who? A teammate? Someone from her agency?

So she asked the nurse, hoping for some kind of clue that could help her piece things together.

Instead, she was met with something bizarre.

Not only did the nurse know who brought her in, but apparently many others did too. A man had carried her in bridal style, but also declared himself her boyfriend. He even told the staff that he couldn't stay because he had work, and since they were getting married next year and planning for a child, he couldn't afford to use up his leave days.

Tang Yue's eyes turned serious. I have to report this.

Without wasting a second, she turned to the nurse and asked about her condition.

"You're stable now," the nurse reassured her. "But you should still rest for a few days. You were in pretty bad shape."

Tang Yue didn't argue. After completing the formalities, she signed her discharge papers. As she stepped out of the hospital, her phone was already ringing.

She answered it swiftly.

"Hello."

A voice responded on the other end. She cut to the point.

"Yes. The information was leaked."

A pause. Then she added,

"I'm safe. Just discharged from the hospital."

Another pause.

"No, nothing life-threatening. I was poisoned and then caught in flames."

She glanced around the street as if half-expecting someone to be watching.

"I don't know what happened after that. I lost consciousness."

She exhaled slowly.

"Yes, someone brought me to the hospital."

Her voice dropped, tone sharper now.

"Find out who leaked the target's location to us. I want the informant's name."

This was clearly a trap, a fully orchestrated one. It was sheer luck she was still alive.

"Also, send me the information about my savior."

Without waiting for a reply, she hung up the call and hailed a cab, taking Taki to her temporary safehouse in the city.

Minutes later, a notification pinged on her phone. The report had arrived.

Tang Yue opened the mail instantly. Attached was a single photo.

A boy?

She narrowed her eyes. "Isn't he too young?" she muttered, staring at the image of a teenager wearing sunglasses at night.

She scrolled further.

Another image. This time, he was carrying her, her unconscious body in his arms. A faint blush crept up her face.

"Tch." She swiped it away with a flick of her thumb and a shake of her head.

That was it.

No other photos.

No surveillance footage.

No confirmed witness reports.

Just him.

She turned her attention to the text below.

Name: Shish Uchiha (Hospital Form)

Mage / No Mage: Unknown

Rank: Unknown

Job: Unknown

Affiliation: Unknown

Record: None

Tang Yue's eyes twitched.

"What the fuck?" she muttered under her breath.

Immediately, she called her agent. The line clicked.

"What the hell are you doing?" she barked. "There's nothing here except a name and one photo!"

Her agent hesitated.

"We tried. We scanned all known networks—guilds, government databases, arcane registries, even the black market feeds. There's nothing. No match. No activity. It's like… he doesn't exist."

Tang Yue froze. Then slowly, her expression turned grim.

"Don't tell me he's a ghost."

That term wasn't used lightly. In their world, a ghost wasn't some literal spirit—it was worse.

It was a code term.

A person with no digital, magical, or physical footprint. No birth record. No ID.

People like that weren't civilians. They were assets. Elite spies. Assassins. Deep-cover operatives from organizations most people didn't even know existed.

"What about our database?" she asked immediately, knowing their internal system contained information even the government couldn't always access.

"At least… nothing up to our clearance level," her agent replied.

Tang Yue took a deep breath, her mind racing through the possibilities. Her expression tightened as her agent continued,

"Maybe… maybe he's some secret agent. Could've been there on a mission too."

That was the only explanation that made any sense. No ordinary person would've taken her to the hospital, especially not someone who remained completely hidden before doing it.

"Forget it. Don't search for him," she said flatly, switching gears without missing a beat. "Did you find the informant?"

"Yes. He's already fled Bo City," her agent confirmed.

"Send me the details," she ordered.

The line went dead as the call ended. Tang Yue exhaled slowly, then turned her attention back to her phone screen.

Her gaze lingered on the image of Shisui, mid-stride, carrying her toward the hospital.

"Boyfriend, huh?" she muttered to herself, a crooked grin tugging at her lips.
