Chapter 23: Chidori

"Hmm, not bad. No wonder he's a senior officer," I muttered, reviewing the shadow clone's memories from monitoring their investigation. I couldn't help but praise the man a little.

So, he wants to inspect the building to see if there's something special about it. A reasonable move, though ultimately a waste of time. I was only there because I was following that damn rat's trail.

Since there was still some time before I could unlock the element, I decided to start analyzing the monsters, beginning with the lowest-level ones. And given that some of them had managed to break through the city's security, there was no need to venture outside. A little digging on the net was all it took, and soon enough, I started seeing a pattern.

I was just about to search for my next target when my radar picked up signs of movement—a one-sided fight. I was going to ignore it at first, but then I noticed that one of the participants was someone I was actually interested in.

Without hesitation, I moved out, leaping across the rooftops until I reached the area of interest.

Looking down, I saw a man grinning as he attacked a woman using fire magic. She was dodging, but clearly at a disadvantage. The man was toying with her. He was a high-level mage, that much was obvious.

Tang Yue.

I frowned. She should've been able to escape using her shadow element. And honestly, she should. This guy wasn't messing around. He was clearly trying to kill her.

But something was off. Her movements were sluggish, shaky.

Poisoned?

She was trembling more and more by the second, and it definitely wasn't just from pressure or fear.

I hesitated. Should I step in?

Tang Yue's not just some random mage. She's someone worth building a connection with. She could be useful for gathering intel and resources later on, especially since I don't plan on hanging around this city for the full five years.

Alright, let's do this.

I jumped in just as the man went for the cliché flamethrower attack, and Tang Yue finally gave out. She couldn't hold on any longer.

Landing beside her, I scooped her up and jumped again, dodging the blast just in time.

The spot where she'd been standing was now engulfed in flames.

The mage turned to face us, a sadistic grin spreading across his face.

"Oh? Another prey to hunt," he said, his voice dripping with arrogance. "You must've used some kind of artifact just now, huh?"

I didn't bother correcting him. Let him think my jump was because of some artifact. Works in my favor.

Instead, I just watched as a fire orb shot straight at him.

Sensing the danger, the man dodged immediately.

Hmm… so wind is his second element.

I left a few shadow clones to keep him busy while I checked on Tang Yue. She was already unconscious. Her body felt hot—feverish—and while her injuries weren't too severe, they were definitely there.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu," I muttered, forming another clone and handing her over to take her to the hospital. I'm not a medical expert.

Sure, I'd taken a bunch of pills from Tsunade's stash, but there was no point wasting them unless things got critical.

Oh? He used mid-tier Level 3 magic: Fiery Fist, Nine Palaces.

Pillars of flame erupted around him, forming a fiery barrier.

Smart move. He's realized he's outnumbered and is using the flames as a defense.

But pity. He isn't fighting a mage. He's up against a shinobi.

One of my shadow clones hurled a kunai toward him. A tag was wrapped around the hilt.

Boom.

Louder than it was deadly, but it did the job.

He flinched, lost focus. The fire pillars wavered, then vanished completely.

In my left hand, lightning chakra had already begun to gather, producing that sharp, unmistakable sound like a thousand birds screaming in unison.

Chidori.

I moved in at full speed, flickering through the gap.

He barely had time to react before my hand pierced clean through his chest, lightning tearing through flesh and bone until my arm burst out his back.

Pain.

Shock.

Confusion.

All those emotions flashed across his face in a single second.

And then, nothing.

His body slumped as I pulled my arm out, blood dripping from my fingers.

Without wasting time, I took out a sealing scroll and stored the corpse inside. I couldn't examine it here.

Body Flicker.

I blurred out of sight and began moving toward my temporary room, thoughts swirling.

He was weak.

Too weak.

Compared to the high-level mages I'd seen online—ones who could summon hundreds of fireballs or cast large-scale domain spells—this guy felt like he had just reached the threshold. Maybe he was drunk on his new power.

Careless.

Still, using Chidori was the right call.

A clean kill in one go.

Straight from Kakashi-sensei's teachings.

Honestly, being Uchiha means there are very few jutsu we don't already possess.

The Sharingan is a bug in the system. Even kekkei genkai like Ice Release and Wood Release—we have the hand seals, the theory, the counters. With the Sharingan, we can see, analyze, and replicate.

That's the advantage of a thousand-year-old clan.

We've amassed more jutsu than any other in shinobi history.

Whenever an Uchiha sees a technique, he brings it home, studies it, copies it, refines it.

Kakashi could do it with just a borrowed eye.

So tell me—shouldn't the true owner of the Sharingan be able to do even more?

Mangekyō might have more flash and power…

But don't underestimate the three-tomoe.

It's far from useless.

Of course, not every Uchiha could use every jutsu.

Most didn't even have lightning affinity.

But some did.

And those who did knew what they were capable of.

Thinking that all of them died in the genocide makes my blood boil.

Itachi and Obito alone weren't enough to wipe them all out.

Root and ANBU must have participated, but even they wouldn't be sufficient to destroy the entire Uchiha clan.

Other clans wouldn't get involved officially.

But some must have helped, like the ones from the Shimura clan or the Aburame—the parasite users.

In fact, Sarutobi, as Hokage, seized what once belonged to the Senju.

Then he took what belonged to Minato and the Uzumaki.

Mito must've left properties and rights to Kushina as the last Uzumaki, but even those were taken.

The sheer number of shinobi Sarutobi must have raised in secret gives me chills.

He had to have mobilized them that night.

There's no other explanation.

After I return, I'll definitely investigate everything.

If I want to destroy him, I can't afford to take any chances.

…Hmm. Boyfriend, huh.
