Naruto: Scourge of the Ninja World

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: The Duo Chasing the Culprit

In the direction connecting the Land of Grass and the Land of Earth, a lone figure was currently speeding toward the Land of Grass.

This man had a rugged face, fiery red beard, and wore a forehead protector shaped like a mountain peak. The emblem on it unmistakably represented Iwagakure.

He was none other than Roshi, dispatched from Iwagakure to the Land of Grass to deal with Konoha's ninja.

He was also Iwagakure's first Jinchūriki—the Four-Tails Jinchūriki—widely known as "Lava Release Roshi."

However, after entering the Land of Grass, this Jinchūriki seemed to take on a different demeanor.

"Ugh… If this is just a war against Konoha, why drag the Land of Grass into it too?"

"Onoki is getting too ruthless…"

Roshi had earned his name on the battlefield. Known for his upright nature, he disdained schemes and preferred to defeat enemies head-on.

But now, under the Tsuchikage's orders, Iwagakure had begun a large-scale invasion of the Land of Grass, intending to use it as a springboard to launch an assault on the Land of Fire.

To Roshi, this was completely unnecessary. The Land of Grass was originally neutral—why force them into this?

And Kumogakure… word had it they were aggressively recruiting former members of the disbanded Hidden Hot Water Village. Shameless!

"Hmph!"

Fueled by frustration, Roshi picked up speed again.

At the same time, Han, another Jinchūriki, also began to move.

He was going to capture the little Konoha rats that had snuck in—any ninja entering the Land of Grass now must be eliminated!

The Tsuchikage-sama's plan could not be disrupted!

Just as Han began to move, Chizan sprang into action.

With Transparent Release activated, he blended seamlessly behind the Iwagakure forces.

Looking at the growing number of Iwagakure ninja joining the squad, even Gekko Chizan couldn't help but sigh.

The Land of Grass was absolutely crawling with Iwagakure ninja.

In just a short time, what was once a two-man team had ballooned into fifteen.

"Chomei, do you think if he blows up in front of all these underlings, it'll look pretty spectacular?"

"No doubt about it. Let's get even more people here. This isn't nearly enough. Fifty would be ideal. Once the Kokuō goes berserk… tsk tsk, now that's the art of violence."

These two shady schemers were happily plotting the other guy's misfortune.

And the "other guy" remained completely unaware, with the team's numbers still rising.

After a while, Gekko Chizan's eyes narrowed sharply at a distant sight.

"What the hell—why is it those two blockheads? Are they recovered already?"

"Damn it, this whole 'recon in the Land of Grass' thing—they're obviously here to capture me!!!"

Through his bug's vision, Gekko Chizan saw…

A grim-faced Uchiha Fugaku and a laid-back Namikaze Minato…

One in black, one in white—these two looked just like the grim reapers of legend, walking down a road in the Land of Grass. There was no mistaking it—they were here to claim Gekko Chizan's soul!

"Ahahahaha, Chizan, they've chased you all the way to the Land of Grass. You really think you can still run?"

"If all else fails, just go back and take a couple beatings. With me around, I'll make sure you survive!"

Chomei instantly switched to spectator mode, laughing his guts out.

This long-distance chase to hunt a fugitive? Pure entertainment gold!

"Chomei, I swear you're truly rotten now—you want to see me get beat up?"

"Alright then! Good for you!"

"Let me do the math. If I take a beating, you go a month without food. I'll also cut off your visual feed."

"Want to watch the drama unfold? Dream on!"

Crunch— sunflower seeds spilled everywhere as Chomei instantly shut up.

"No! No! Please! I, Chomei, am a good, honest soul!"

"As your friend, how could I stand by and watch you get beat up? Don't worry, I'll strap on wings and help you fly outta there!"

"I swear I'll help you escape!"

Damn, eating snacks and watching drama were his greatest joys right now. If that got cut off, life would be bleak.

No way. That could not happen.

"Hmph!"

With a cold snort, Gekko Chizan refocused on the approaching duo of grim reapers.

He had to admit, seeing those two actually gave him some peace of mind.

Originally, he was worried that whoever came wouldn't be strong enough to push Han into revealing his full power. But now he realized those fears were unnecessary.

Even though Fugaku and Minato hadn't reached their peak strength yet…

With Uchiha's Sharingan and Minato's Flying Thunder God—

This bunch of Iwagakure ninja wouldn't be enough. These two represented the pinnacle of Konoha's youthful might.

"Chomei, be ready. If it's really those two, we might be counting down to Kokuō's rampage."

Chomei nodded in excitement.

After all, we're talking about an Uchiha and Namikaze Minato here.

He didn't know much about the former, but the latter was a genius like Chizan, one who'd mastered space-time ninjutsu.

Their strength was more than enough.

"There they are! Everyone, surround them!"

"Get the intel, then kill them!"

Han had spotted the duo and immediately issued the attack command.

Thanks to all the reinforcements, the group had grown to thirty-three members.

Unfortunately for them, Gekko Chizan saw nothing but cannon fodder.

With Han's order, over thirty ninja surged forward, using Body Flicker techniques and various abilities to charge Minato and Fugaku.

"They found us, Fugaku."

"Mm. Then let's fight. I've been itching for a brawl anyway!"

Minato and Fugaku sensed the change instantly.

They sprang into action.

Minato's hands reached behind to his pouch, and in the next second he pulled out eight specially crafted kunai, each inscribed with his Flying Thunder God formula: Sword of Loving Endurance.

Fugaku shut and opened his eyes again—scarlet three-tomoe Sharingan flaring to life.

"Fire Release! Phoenix Fire Technique!"

His Hand Seals were so fast, they were jaw-dropping.

In an instant, Fugaku launched dozens of fireballs into the air, unleashing a full 360-degree bombardment.

"Hey! Fugaku, watch it—I'm still right next to you!"

A fireball barely skimmed his scalp, and Minato yelled at Fugaku, clearly annoyed.

Fugaku didn't respond. While his ninjutsu fired, his hypnotic Sharingan swept the battlefield.

"Damn! It's a Uchiha! Don't look into his eyes!"

The Iwagakure ninja weren't clueless—they knew instantly they were in deep trouble.

Thirty-plus ninja halted all at once, with several beginning Hand Seals.

"Earth Release! Earth-Style Wall!"

Earth Release was known for its defense—massive walls rose from the ground, shielding them from the fireballs.

As the fireballs smashed into the walls and scattered into sparks, the counterattack began.

"Earth Release! Earth and Stone Spears!"

"Earth Release! Underground Fish Projection!"

The Iwagakure ninja worked with impressive coordination. Some dove underground, prepping sneak attacks.

Others launched Earth-style offensive ninjutsu.

The rest drew kunai and ninja swords, charging in for close combat.

(T/N: I strongly recommend you to read my new fanfic "Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!"

Quite an interesting fanfic. What really caught my attention is that the protagonist becomes stronger through a gradual process — this is not a brainless power fantasy. It's the first time I've seen something like this, and I have to say, I'm satisfied.

The main character has a pretty unique background, he's an Uchiha who was adopted by Tobirama (which is already unusual) thanks to Hashirama. As you might've guessed, the story takes place in the early timeline of the Naruto world. He's in the same generation as Hiruzen, which is another plus.

The MC is talented and works hard, but his efforts only make him slightly stronger than Hiruzen (at least for the first 100 chapters). He also has a well-developed personality, he's not a madman, but he is ruthless toward his enemies. One particularly interesting aspect is that he uses poison, a very underrated element in the Naruto world. We know from canon that poison can be deadly even to powerful shinobi, yet it's mostly associated with Sunagakure and usually used against genin or chunin.

The only downside is that the fanfic gives more attention to cooking than necessary (the MC is apparently very impressive at it, and everyone praises his cooking). It's manageable for me, but still a bit much. There's even a whole chapter about it at the beginning. For readers who aren't into that, I noted at the top that the chapter focuses on cooking and can be skipped. Thankfully, after that, the fanfic doesn't dwell on it this much.)
