Seeing Tsunade showing signs of anger about to erupt, she began to vent.
"Old man, I'm out of here. You're on your own. Good luck!"
Jiraiya decisively jumped onto the windowsill and vanished without a trace, leaving the Third Hokage standing dumbfounded in the Hokage's office.
"You… old man…"
Realizing Tsunade was glaring at him expressionlessly, the Third Hokage quickly turned and left.
---
On a new day, walking through the streets, Kazuki noticed that the atmosphere in the clan was more oppressive than usual.
This situation would likely take some time to ease.
"Captain, Clan Leader wants you to report directly to his office."
As soon as Kazuki arrived at the Police Department, he received the notice and changed his path to head straight for Fugaku's office.
"Clan Leader, what do you need from me?"
Fugaku, who had arrived at the Police Department earlier than Kazuki and was already working, set down his documents and gestured for Kazuki to sit.
Once Kazuki was seated, Fugaku spoke.
"I called you today for two main things. The first is about Shisui. I want to recall him. The matters concerning the village and the clan are resolved, and I think it's no longer meaningful for him to stay at the Daimyo's court."
"Sure, that works."
Previously, Shisui wasn't brought back as a precautionary measure.
Now that things were settled, it was appropriate to let Shisui return.
Besides, it would give him a taste of the darkness created by Danzo and the Third Hokage.
'Your ancestor's eyes were dug out, and you still trusted him. Now, it must be painful for you, right?'
When Shisui returned, his worldview would definitely be turned upside down.
"And the second matter?"
For this kind of decision, Fugaku could've made the call himself. However, consulting Kazuki in advance showed respect, so Kazuki naturally had no objections.
Now that everything had been handled, it was better for the Uchiha to maintain some distance from the Daimyo's court for a while.
Though it might seem ungrateful to cut ties after using their help, the clan had to choose between the village and the Daimyo eventually.
Maintaining cordial relations was fine, but going further would cross a line—one the village wouldn't tolerate.
Fugaku gave Kazuki a peculiar, admiring look, one he couldn't quite decipher.
"What's with that look?" Kazuki thought.
"The second matter is about selecting a new captain for the First Squad. Who do you think is suitable for the role?"
"???"
Hold on. Isn't the squad captain sitting right here?
Why is there even a need to pick someone?
Wait a minute!
Even with a delayed reaction, Kazuki finally understood what was going on.
It dawned on him why Fugaku had looked at him with such a mix of admiration and envy earlier.
"It's the Hokage's order. She mentioned other plans for your position, leaving the First Squad captain spot vacant. Who do you think is suitable for the role?"
Sure enough, it was Tsunade's doing. Could she really be planning to make him some kind of Hokage advisor?
Admittedly, the position was impressive—essentially a meteoric rise for him.
Occupying that role meant he would rank just below Tsunade herself, immune to interference from the Elders or anyone else.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Kazuki decided to address that later after meeting with Tsunade personally.
"For the First Squad captain, I think Jiro is a good choice."
After some careful thought, Kazuki ultimately decided to nominate someone he had personally trained. Jiro.
"Jiro?"
Fugaku frowned slightly and said, "Are you sure he's suitable? What about Uchiha Kaze?"
From a strength perspective, Jiro was the better choice. Among the Uchiha, it often came down to who had the stronger fists.
Kaze, while capable, wasn't as strong as Jiro but was more composed and reliable.
Letting a hothead like Jiro, who didn't even respect the Clan Leader, take over could lead to chaos within the Police Department.
"No, Jiro is the right pick. That big guy isn't really stupid; he just has a bad temper. Compared to Shimeki and Kazaki, the Police Department needs someone with a fiery disposition to handle certain people and situations."
Everyone in the Uchiha Clan knew Jiro had a volatile temper, even sometime refusing to even bow to the Clan Leader.
That was the first impression he gave people, but Kazuki knew Jiro wasn't actually reckless.
Having trained him personally, Kazuki had confidence in his choice. "Appoint Jiro as captain and add a vice-captain position for Kaze. A mix of Jiro's aggression and Kaze's cold rationality will make them a great team. Besides, I'm leaving the Police Department, not the clan or the village."
As long as Kazuki remained in the village, Jiro would behave.
"…"
Fugaku hesitated but eventually nodded.
"Fine. Also, let Itachi continue working under you. No matter what position you hold, you'll need someone you trust to handle minor tasks."
'Is this monitoring me or just an excuse to pawn off your son?' Kazuki laughed.
Who would dare monitor Kazuki?
Fugaku's reasoning was simpler. he wanted Kazuki to guide Itachi's growth, helping him mature away from the clan's internal struggles.
"Alright, send Itachi over when the time comes. As for Shisui… we'll see."
Kazuki needed time to decide Shisui's role upon his return.
Just as Kazuki was about to leave, Fugaku dropped a bombshell.
"I've decided to propose reducing the number of clan elders during the next assembly. There are too many elders right now, leading to factionalism. I want to cut their numbers and will also nominate you as an elder."
"Reducing them?"
The elders' primary role was to assist the Clan Leader in managing the clan.
Secondly, they were meant to check the Clan Leader from making reckless decisions.
Unfortunately, the elders had failed in their duties, focusing instead on forming factions and consolidating power.
With the hardliners now defeated, Fugaku wanted to ensure the neutral faction didn't rise to become a new hardliner group.
This time, the "knife" wouldn't kill—it would intimidate.
