Chapter 7: 7. Itachi Uchiha
---
"Little Rai..."
Izumi had just opened her mouth when Raiden cut her off.
"Do you believe in me?"
Raiden looked at her seriously, his tone calm and unwavering. Izumi had never seen him look this serious before.
In her mind, Raiden was always indifferent. He ignored insults, brushed off ridicule, and never seemed to care about anything. But now, under his deep, dark gaze, Izumi found herself nodding instinctively.
"Mm!"
"Then let's enter the elite class together!"
"Mm!"
…
After lunch, the first-year combat evaluation officially began.
The Chūnin instructor in charge of arranging the matchups was the same one who had stopped Raiden earlier.
As he watched Raiden walk across the field toward the exam area, a cruel smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Let's see how you die today!"
Raiden, however, paid him no mind. A nameless side character wasn't worth his attention. One thing was certain, though once he had power, he would kill him without hesitation.
And Raiden knew that day wasn't far off.
The combat matches were simple one-on-one battles. Aside from explosive tags, all ninja tools, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu were permitted.
The Chūnin instructor would step in if things got too dangerous signalling that the match was over.
Of course, accidents still happen.
This wasn't a child's game it was meant to prepare them for the reality of being a shinobi.
The ninja world was brutal.
This academy was not a playground.
As the first match was announced, Itachi Uchiha stepped forward.
His expression was calm, his posture composed he didn't even exude an aura of intimidation.
Yet, his opponent, a spiky-haired boy, stood stiff and tense, as if facing an executioner.
"Whoa! Look over there!"
"It's Itachi! It's really him!"
"So cool!"
"…"
A group of young girls squealed in excitement, their eyes locked on the delicate and handsome young Uchiha.
Even at this age, the kids in the Naruto world matured fast they already knew how to appreciate a pretty face.
But it wasn't just his looks.
Itachi was undeniably the strongest student in the academy. Even the upperclassmen couldn't compete with him. A true genius of the Uchiha Clan preordained for the elite class.
The two students bowed to each other in greeting. The spiky-haired boy clenched his teeth and charged forward with a loud roar.
Itachi moved effortlessly one hand caught his opponent's wrist, and the other grasped his collar.
A fluid motion.
A perfect over-the-shoulder throw.
BANG!
The spiky-haired boy was flipped over and pinned instantly.
Just before his back hit the ground, Itachi lightly used his foot to cushion the impact ensuring his opponent wasn't hurt.
The match was over in three seconds.
One move.
Clean. Precise. Merciful.
The Chūnin instructor watching nodded approvingly.
And the crowd?
The girls screamed in admiration.
The boys stared in shock.
"Strong and kind-hearted…"
Someone murmured.
A boy like this who valued life so much, How painful must it have been when he later slaughtered his own clan?
Just as Raiden was lost in thought about Itachi's tragic future, the Chūnin instructor's cold voice rang out.
"Raiden Alistair vs. Shuu Hyūga! Step forward!"
The entire crowd froze.
Everyone knew who Shuu was the second-ranked student in their grade, a Hyūga prodigy!
But… Raiden?
The name meant nothing to them.
They had never bothered to remember it.
Except for Izumi.
Her face paled.
"Why is Little Rai fighting Shuu?!"
She couldn't help but blurt out.
Shuu was far below Itachi, but far above every other first-year. If anyone could last three moves against Itachi, it was him.
Three moves may not sound impressive, but it was because no other first-year could last even one move.
"Little Rai… forfeit the match."
Izumi's voice was filled with worry.
She knew Shuu would want revenge after what happened earlier.
At that moment, Shuu smirked coldly.
"What's wrong? Afraid to fight?"
He raised his voice deliberately, making sure everyone heard. The students finally realized who Raiden was.
"The bull-headed freak?"
"A loser fighting the number two student?"
"Pffft, he's gotta be terrified!"
"Shuu, crush that monster!"
"If you kill him, you'll get in trouble just cripple him!"
"Yeah! Make sure he never steps into class again!"
"God, I feel sick even breathing the same air as him!"
…
The crowd buzzed with anticipation, eager to see a massacre.
What happened earlier in Class 2 had already spread. Everyone knew there was bad blood between Shuu and Raiden and everyone knew the match was rigged.
But who cared?
One was a Hyūga genius.
The other was a bull-headed failure.
Raiden wasn't surprised by the arrangement. The Chūnin instructor had made it obvious earlier when he had stopped Raiden's attack but let Shuu strike land freely.
"Little Rai, don't go!"
Izumi tried to hold him back, panic written all over her face.
"Do you remember our promise?"
Raiden let her grab his arm But his face remained calm as he looked at her.
"Our promise?"
A memory flashed through Izumi's mind Raiden, looking at her with unshakable determination.
"Do you believe in me?"
"Then let's enter the elite class together!"
For some reason, Izumi's hands loosened and before she realized it, Raiden had stepped into the battle circle.
This idiot!
Why was he so stubborn?!
Even if he couldn't enter the elite class, he could still go to the lowest-ranked class! Izumi felt frustration, anger, and worry all at once her emotions were a chaotic mess.
…
Originally, the Chūnin instructor had planned to randomly assign Raiden a weak opponent...
So that he would lose immediately and be thrown into the lowest class.
But Raiden had defied him.
He had dared to talk back in class.
He had dared to threaten revenge.
So now?
The instructor's true intentions were clear.
"Don't blame me, kid. Blame yourself for offending the Hyūga."
He muttered softly, making sure only Raiden could hear.
"Offending Hyūga? Who is he a young master?"
"Can we start now?"
Raiden's cold gaze swept over the instructor.
This pathetic excuse of a teacher was trying so hard did he want a name for himself?
Even a side character should have goals, huh?
Maybe he wanted to be a named character instead of a forgettable extra?
"Hmph! Let's see how you cry later!"
The Chūnin snorted, glancing at Shuu...
This time, he wouldn't step in.
"Begin the match!"
