Chapter 6: 6. Naruto treatment
---
Raiden carefully put away the unfinished bento, placing it inside his desk. Then, he slowly stood up.
He didn't immediately look at Shuu, the one responsible for everything. Instead, he crouched down, helped Izumi up, and pulled her behind him.
Only after doing all this did he finally lift his head.
His calm, indifferent gaze locked onto Shuu. Then, he swept his eyes over the rest of the classroom before returning his focus to the Hyūga, staring directly into his Byakugan.
Izumi wasn't weak she wasn't the type to be knocked down by a simple push.
Shuu had been discreet, but Raiden had clearly seen the chakra flicker in his hand when he attacked!
"You used chakra just now, didn't you?"
Gulp…
Shuu swallowed nervously.
That bull-headed freak's gaze was terrifying.
Why did he suddenly feel the urge to turn and run?
But with the entire class watching, there was no turning back now. If he backed down, he'd lose all face he'd never be able to show himself at school again!
"So what if I did?"
Shuu took a deep breath, gritting his teeth and shouting to bolster his confidence.
"Then stake your life on it."
Raiden remained unnervingly calm.
"…Huh?"
Shuu was stunned. He had no idea what that was supposed to mean.
He knew what staking your life meant But who in their right mind would risk their life over a few insults?!
"You used chakra this is now a battle between shinobi. Stake your life."
"…Are you joking?"
Sweat trickled down Shuu's temple as he instinctively took a step back.
He didn't want to admit it, but he was genuinely shaken by Raiden's cold, unwavering stare.
Was this guy a lunatic?
Risking his life over something so insignificant?!
"You think this is just a game? Fine. Let's settle this one-on-one and see who truly wins."
"Being a shinobi isn't a game."
Raiden's icy gaze swept across the room, his tone deadly serious.
Nobody thought he was joking.
"…Little Rai…"
Izumi stared at his back in stunned silence.
She had always thought Raiden didn't care about anything. She never imagined that, in his eyes, she mattered this much.
"Hah! Trying to impress the crowd, are you?"
Despite being rattled at first, Shuu had regained his composure.
He was a Hyūga prodigy even if he had been thrown off by Raiden's overwhelming presence at the start, he had already calmed down.
"I'd like to see how you plan on not forgiving me!"
Shuu sneered.
His expression darkened, eyes flashing with malice.
Since Raiden wanted to die, he'd gladly oblige!
Chakra surged into his fingertips...
Gentle Fist.
Buzz!
Shuu launched a lightning-fast sneak attack!
The other students had never seen anything like it his movement was so fast, not a single one of them could follow it!
"Watch out!"
Izumi gasped, about to rush forward.
But Raiden was faster.
He stopped Izumi with one hand while his other hand shot forward like a bolt of lightning!
Pure black Flames engulfed his knuckles—
PA!
Just as Raiden swung a punch at Shuu's outstretched hand..., A shadow suddenly appeared, moving at a speed far beyond either of them!
A Chūnin instructor had stepped in, seizing Raiden's wrist in an instant!
Thud!
But—
Shuu's attack wasn't stopped.
His fingers struck Raiden's shoulder without any resistance!
"Ugh…"
Raiden let out a muffled grunt as a sharp pain spread through his shoulder, The distinct, invasive sting of chakra seeped into his tenketsu.
Shuu's real target had been his heart But at the last second, Raiden twisted his body so that his shoulder took the hit instead.
Shuu had genuinely tried to kill him.
And the Chūnin instructor?
He had deliberately allowed it to happen.
"Little Rai!"
Izumi's face paled as she hurriedly moved to support him.
Meanwhile, the Chūnin instructor stepped back with Shuu. The entire class had seen what happened. The instructor had blocked Raiden's attack but let Shuu's attack land freely.
Raiden understood exactly what had happened.
After all—
He was the bull-headed freak.
He was despised by his classmates.
He was equally hated by his teachers.
That Chūnin had hoped that Shuu's attack would pierce his heart.
And if it had?
At worst, Shuu, being a Hyūga prodigy, would be suspended for three months as punishment.
And Raiden?
An orphan, a nobody, a freak if he was lucky, he'd survive but never become a shinobi.
If he died?
No one would care.
Raiden said nothing.
He simply stared at the Chūnin instructor.
Committing his face to memory.
"What are you looking at?"
The instructor snapped irritably, feeling unsettled under Raiden's silent gaze But with all the students watching, he couldn't make another move.
"Am I wrong for stopping a fight in class?"
Izumi's face darkened.
She had once thought this teacher was a decent person.
Now?
Raiden held her back before she could argue.
This instructor treated Izumi well but only because she was Izumi Uchiha.
Raiden, on the other hand?
He was just Raiden Alistair.
"You did well, sensei."
Raiden's expression remained blank, his tone unreadable, 'The same old treatment… Why did Naruto even bother protecting these villagers? If their kids are like this, their parents must be even worse.'
"I just wanted to remember your face. So I can always reflect on your wisdom."
His voice was calm almost emotionless. But everyone could hear the underlying meaning.
"Heh. You?"
The instructor sneered, immediately understanding what Raiden was really saying.
'You're remembering me so you can get revenge later, huh?' He scoffed, making no effort to hide his disdain.
"This exam will determine your placement. Once you get dumped into the bottom-tier class, you won't ever have to see me again."
"You're a failure. You won't ever amount to anything."
Raiden had already been pre-selected for the bottom-tier class left to rot with the other dead-weight students.
Nobody cared about his exam results.
It was already decided that he'd lose.
His opponent would easily crush him.
But this time, the Chūnin had an idea.
He'd make sure Raiden's opponent was someone truly special.
Nobody cared about a failure But everyone paid attention to geniuses.
The number one student in their grade is Uchiha Itachi and right behind him, The second-best Hyūga Shuu.
Raiden would face Shuu in the combat exam.
Everyone would be watching.
Everyone would see Raiden fall at a genius's feet.
As the Chūnin left, a cold smirk played on his lips. Before walking away, he whispered something into Shuu's ear.
Shuu's eyes darkened.
He turned toward Raiden his gaze now filled with hatred.
