Chapter 16: 16. The Ultimate Cheat?!
----
Even with all his composure, Hiashi Hyūga had to take several deep breaths to suppress the turmoil in his heart.
'This damn brat!
Blind old man? Blind son?'
'This is the most powerful dōjutsu, the Byakugan! Do you think it's just cataracts? If you don't understand, then shut the hell up!'
And what was that about thinking it was a fly? Slapping him?
Since when were flies that big?
It's not us who are blind, it's you!
Medical expenses? Just those crumpled few Ryo bills? What, are you giving charity to beggars? That's not even enough to cover a consultation fee!
"After all, it was just child's play. Surely the Hyūga Clan Leader wouldn't ask for medical expenses?"
Fugaku Uchiha delivered a perfectly timed jab. The more displeased Hiashi was, the happier he felt any setback for the Hyūga Clan was a win for the Uchiha Clan.
"Of course not. It was merely child's play, after all."
Hiashi gritted his teeth at the word "play," then shot a cold glance at Raiden before turning to order his clan members to carry Hyūga Shuu to the hospital.
He didn't want to see this little bastard anymore. Did the dignified Hyūga Clan Leader just get into a shouting match with a brat in the middle of the street? Was he actually explaining that the Byakugan wasn't a cataract?
As for taking action? That thought never even crossed his mind.
He wouldn't stoop so low!
"What are you all standing around for? Get back with me!"
Hiashi's face was dark, venting all his frustration on the group of young Hyūga clan members.
He wasn't mad that they started trouble. The Hyūga Clan never feared conflict.
The problem was that they got into trouble and failed to resolve it humiliating themselves in the process! And in front of the Uchiha, no less!
Hiashi was so furious he wanted to cripple these brats!
"Talented geniuses," my ass!"
"You're all a bunch of Talented failures!"
As Hiashi led his people away, a loud voice suddenly rang out from the end of the commercial street:
"I had a great time playing with my blind big brothers today! Let's do this again sometime!"
The implication?
Not satisfied? Then come and fight me!
Hearing this, Hiashi's footsteps stiffened. But in the end, he didn't turn back instead, he quickened his pace and left.
From Fugaku Uchiha's perspective, it looked as if Hiashi had fled in defeat.
Acting smug in the moment was satisfying but doing it all the time? Even better.
But this time, Raiden had completely offended the Hyūga Clan!
"Your name is Raiden, right? Not bad. I like you."
Fugaku patted Raiden's shoulder with a smile, the pleasure in his eyes unmistakable.
Not that he actually appreciated Raiden it was just that if this kid could continue annoying the Hyūga Clan, Fugaku wouldn't mind giving him a push.
"But I've offended the Hyūga Clan."
Raiden's playful demeanour faded, his brows furrowing slightly in concern.
"Oh?"
Hearing this, Fugaku raised an eyebrow. So this kid actually realizes what he's done?
"Since you know you've offended the Hyūga Clan…"
"What, do you think if I get on my knees and apologize, they'll let me off?"
Raiden shot a cold glance at Fugaku. This old fox wasn't any better he was clearly trying to use him as a pawn!
"From the moment I put Hyūga Shuu in the hospital, I had already offended the Hyūga Clan."
"I'm sorry, Raiden… It's all because of me." Izumi looked at Raiden with guilt in her eyes.
If it weren't for her, with Raiden's personality, he never would've clashed with Hyūga Shuu. If only she had ignored him back then…
"It's not your fault. This was my decision."
Raiden spoke seriously, not just to comfort Izumi, but because he truly believed it.
So what if he had offended the Hyūga Clan?
He had no regrets! A real man should stand tall living a quiet, submissive life was worse than a short but glorious one!
Hyūga Shuu had crossed the line. Unforgivable! His only regret? That he wasn't strong enough to kill him on the spot.
"If you need help, I can lend you a hand."
The words left Fugaku's mouth almost instinctively. Even he wasn't sure why maybe he just wanted to see the Hyūga Clan suffer more.
Raiden eyed him suspiciously. What's this old guy up to?
But then he thought, If someone's offering a favour, why not take it? He grinned.
"Actually, there is something I'd like the Uchiha Clan Leader to help with."
"Oh? What is it?"
A glint of curiosity flickered in Fugaku's eyes. He assumed Raiden had picked up on his words being just empty pleasantries.
"I want to learn the Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Raiden didn't hold back he went straight for an advanced jutsu.
Fugaku thought for a moment, then realized it was just the Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Considering the Hyūga Clan's temperament, this feud wasn't over. If this bull-headed kid could give them more trouble…
Then trading a single Shadow Clone Jutsu wouldn't be a loss.
"Alright, I'll teach you!"
It didn't take a day for the entire village to hear about the Hyūga Clan's public humiliation.
A first-year student had openly challenged the Hyūga Clan?
Everyone was utterly shocked!
It was the last day of the weekend. Raiden, having finished his work, planned to train in the forest. But as he walked through the streets, he noticed the constant whispers around him.
People kept giving him strange looks.
Were they… pitying him?
When Raiden finally caught onto their discussions, he smirked coldly.
The incident had only happened near dinnertime yesterday, yet by morning, the entire village already knew?
There was no way the Uchiha Clan hadn't helped spread the news.
But Raiden didn't care. Wasting time worrying wouldn't help he needed to get stronger and attract the attention of Konoha's top brass.
Only by becoming a genius could he avoid unnecessary trouble.
How ironic.
By the riverside, in the forest, Raiden was practising the Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Fugaku had already taught it to him yesterday. But there was a problem Raiden's chakra control was terrible.
So bad that out of the Three Basic Jutsu, he had only managed to learn the Substitution Jutsu.
He hadn't even mastered the Clone Jutsu. And now he wanted to learn Shadow Clones?
That was like a toddler trying to run before learning how to walk.
---
The day passed in training.
Boom!
A puff of white smoke erupted, then quickly dissipated...
"Sigh… still nothing."
Raiden let out a deep breath, laying back on the grass with his arms behind his head, staring blankly at the sky.
Could it be that he really wasn't meant to learn ninjutsu?
Most jutsu, he didn't care about But the Shadow Clone Jutsu was the ultimate cheat! He had to learn it!
As the sky darkened, exhaustion took over. The cool evening breeze by the river was perfect for sleeping.
Raiden closed his eyes.
Unknowingly… he drifted off.
In his dreams, it seemed to be storming.
