Another year, another graduation season at the Ninja Academy.
Newly minted Genin sat in their classrooms, nervously waiting for their assigned Jonin instructors.
In one such room, a black-netted, 9-year-old Mitarashi Anko slouched over her desk, groaning in boredom.
"Who the hell is our instructor?"
She muttered, twirling a dango stick between her fingers.
This Anko wasn't the sultry kunoichi she'd become in the future—no trench coat, no smirks, no drama. Just lively, blunt, and a bit too honest.
Seated nearby was Inuzuka Hana, her classmate. Though not a knockout, she had a decent appearance and the wild aura of the Inuzuka clan.
Her loyal gray ninja dog lay curled up on her desk.
And then there was the real prodigy of the bunch: a black-haired, curly-headed boy.
Uchiha Shisui.
Yes, that Shisui. Future [Body Flicker Shisui].
He'd just graduated at the age of six—only slightly behind Guts in speed. His quiet presence already radiated talent.
Just as Anko was about to doze off, the door swung open.
"Yo."
Anko's eyes snapped open.
"Guts!?"
Though they weren't super close, she knew him well. Tsunade's infamous disciple.
The guy who always treated her to sweets... or at least did, until she racked up a serious tab.
She even once declared, half-jokingly,
"I'll marry you to pay off my dango debt!"
Only someone like Anko could say that with a straight face.
"Guts? The Konoha Taijutsu monster?"
Shisui blinked in surprise.
The name had weight. While Minato hadn't yet become the Yellow Flash and Shisui hadn't earned his body licker, Guts was already being whispered about as [Konoha's Strongest Taijutsu Ninja].
"Is he really our instructor?"
Anko clapped her hands in excitement.
"Does this mean I can eat all the dango I want again?!"
Bang!
A solid knuckle-to-head thump from Guts answered that question.
"Follow me. Training ground. Now."
Anko rubbed her head, sulking as she followed. Shisui and Hana trailed behind.
They arrived at a familiar training field by the river—one Guts often used himself.
"To be honest,"
Guts began, stretching lazily,
"I didn't want to be a Jonin instructor. Too much hassle. But when I saw your names, I got curious."
"Heh, I remember! You said you might be my teacher someday!" Anko chirped.
"First lesson: Lay off the sweets, girl. Being chubby at 9 is cute. Being chubby at 29? Not so much."
The image of future-Anko, rounded out by too many dangos, flashed through his mind. He shivered.
"Lies!"
Anko squeezed her flat belly.
"I'm as fit as ever!"
Shisui raised a hand.
"Sensei, should we introduce ourselves or...?"
"Nope. Not getting married, so don't care. Next."
Shisui and Hana exchanged a glance. Yep—definitely a weird teacher.
"Traditionally, the first Genin mission focuses on teamwork,"
Guts continued.
"Which I think is garbage. Once you're Kage-level, your teammates just get in the way."
A bold, unfiltered opinion—but somehow, it landed.
"I took a C-rank mission. A small village in western Fire Country has been taken over by bandits."
"We'll clean it up. Based on your performance, I'll decide your path. Anyone who's scared, quit now."
Silence.
Three pairs of eyes met. No one backed down.
"Alright then. Let's move."
Three days and two nights later, the village lay silent.
Covered in blood, Shisui handed Guts a cloth-wrapped package.
The ears of the bandit leader.
Guts whistled.
"Not bad, Shisui. As expected of a future legend."
Anko had performed admirably as well—less graceful, but ruthless and decisive. No hesitation once the fighting started.
And Hana...
Capable, sure. She'd earned her graduation. But when compared to the other two?
Mediocre. And worse—no fighting spirit.
"Hana,"
Guts said, glancing at her sideways.
"You don't like fighting, do you?"
The girl lowered her head, rubbing the fur on her ninken's ears.
"...No, Sensei. I want to be a veterinarian."
Guts blinked. Then shrugged.
"A vet, huh? Alright, I gotcha."
He ruffled her hair gently, then turned.
"Mission complete. Let's head back."

And just like that, the system's long-dormant voice rang in his mind.
