Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Reasons
"Sasuke, give it back!"
"That's a lot coming from you!"
The moment Naruto and Sasuke locked eyes, they shouted each other's names with fury. Without hesitation, the two of them charged forward. With a resounding bang, their fists collided, each blocking the other—just like that unforgettable battle at the Valley of the End in their previous life!
Naruto stared hard at Sasuke's face, his eyes narrowing slightly. A quiet sigh escaped him.
As I thought… his left eye has awakened the Rinnegan.
Sasuke also studied Naruto carefully, an arrogant smirk tugging at his lips.
Naruto… now that I have the Rinnegan too, what will you do?
With another clash, the two were blown apart by the force, landing on opposite branches. Allies from both sides leaped up, taking formation behind them.
On Sasuke's side, Obito was ready to mock Naruto—until he noticed a familiar figure standing among Naruto's group. His expression faltered, eyes widening in disbelief.
No… it can't be!
Minato Namikaze stepped forward. Though the masked man had changed his appearance—now wearing a new mask and possessing two visible eyes—Minato recognized him instantly. After all, he had once fought him, and that memory left a deep impression.
"Obito… it's you."
The name struck like a thunderclap.
Obito's heart, though seemingly hardened, stirred at the sound. But he scoffed, dismissing the emotion. "That man is dead!" he barked. "You have no right to call me by that name!"
Naruto stepped forward with a cold snort. "Obito, do you really think yelling at my dad like that hides your guilt?"
Sasuke glanced at the figure behind Naruto, eyes narrowing. That's the Fourth Hokage…? He was revived? Orochimaru must've done it.
Sasuke allowed himself a slight smile.
I thought Naruto was just some orphaned brat. Turns out, he's the son of the Fourth Hokage.
That made sense. Only with such a legacy could he be worthy… worthy of being his rival.
He, the son of the Uchiha clan's head. And Naruto, the son of the Hokage. That balance of fate—it was fitting.
Minato stepped forward again, eyes sorrowful. "Obito… I never imagined it was you who attacked the village that night. I failed. I should have recognized you. I should have stopped you."
Obito's eyes gleamed with resentment, old wounds flaring to life. He tore off his mask, revealing the face of the boy Minato had once known.
"Sensei… You've always been too late! You weren't there during the Battle of Kannabi Bridge… and you weren't there when Rin died!"
As Minato looked into his former student's eyes, memories surged—of the cheerful boy Obito once was, now replaced by this broken man.
Obito's expression twisted as he continued, voice sharp and bitter. "You were called the Yellow Flash—the fastest shinobi in the entire ninja world. But where were you when your own apprentice was killed?! Even once—just once—if you had arrived in time…!"
He cut off with a harsh laugh. "No. This world is fake. Hypocritical. It doesn't deserve to exist!"
With that, he pulled the mask back over his face.
"This world is beyond saving!"
Watching Obito, Sasuke smirked faintly.
So even you break down when faced with someone who mattered to you.
Obito had always lectured Sasuke, claiming to see through the world's lies. But here he was—furious, emotional, undone. He acts so detached, but in front of someone important, he loses composure too.
Minato lowered his head. He's right. I failed—not just to protect him, but even to recognize him when he turned against the village…
"Stop spewing your nonsense!" Naruto's voice rang out, fierce and furious. "What right do you have to talk about my father like that?"
Minato looked up, surprised by the fire in Naruto's tone. Obito's eyes narrowed.
"You talk about who failed you," Naruto continued, voice rising, "but what about the people you betrayed? Do you even realize how my parents treated you? You think you've suffered, but have you even thought about what you did to them?"
He took a step forward, expression ice-cold. "Do you want me to ask Orochimaru to revive my mom too? Have her confront you—face to face—and see if you still have the guts to call yourself a victim?"
Obito flinched. The thought of facing Kushina Uzumaki, her fiery temper and loving heart, made his chest tighten. Kushina had always treated him kindly—almost like family. If she came back…
Naruto pressed forward. "You were like a godson to them! And just because Rin died, you acted like the whole world owed you something! You knew Kirigakure captured her! Why didn't you take your revenge on them, huh? Why did you choose to destroy Konoha?!"
His voice thundered with fury. "Rin chose to die under Kakashi's Chidori to protect the village! She had the Three-Tails sealed inside her and didn't want to be used against Konoha. That was her decision. But you—YOU—chose to attack Konoha!"
"And for what?! If you wanted to destroy the village, fine! But why the hell did you target my mother?! Why did you rip the Nine Tails out of her while she had just given birth?! Why did you place explosive tags all over my newborn body?!"
"ANSWER ME, YOU BASTARD!"
Naruto's anger surged like a storm, shaking even the Nine Tails inside him.
Kurama growled in agreement from within Naruto's mind. That night—the night Obito tore him out of Kushina's body and chained him down—remained burned into his memory.
"That's him," Kurama snarled. "Let me out, Naruto. I'll crush that bastard myself—and I won't even charge Chakra for it!"
Obito's resolve faltered. Naruto's words hit harder than any jutsu. Rin's death was tragic. Konoha and Kirigakure both bore some blame—but Kushina? Kushina had done nothing. And yet she paid the highest price.
Sasuke chuckled, watching Obito squirm. Now you understand. Naruto's not someone you can guilt into silence.
Trying to regain control, Obito snapped, "I already threw Kirigakure into chaos! I manipulated Yagura, their Fourth Mizukage, and crushed them from within! As for extracting the Nine Tails and attacking Konoha—that was necessary!"
He raised his voice. "The Tailed Beasts are the source of the world's hatred! Kirigakure, Konoha—every nation uses them as weapons! I'll end that cycle! I'll eliminate hatred at its root!"
For a moment, Sasuke hesitated. That argument... it wasn't unfamiliar.
After obtaining the Rinnegan and connecting to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path through Obito's guidance, he had begun to understand the power of the Tailed Beasts. Their potential for war, for destruction.
Sasuke had started to consider a similar path—to collect the Tailed Beasts and use their power to dominate all resistance, creating enforced peace.
He would become the ultimate villain, shouldering the hatred of the world so no one else had to.
He would stand above it all with his Rinnegan and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, watching the world just like his brother once had—alone, in the dark.
