Chapter 218: Chapter 218: The Battle Between Three Artists
"Itan, use Earth Style to surround the injured and Tokai, and let Tokai concentrate on healing. Do you understand?"
"Understood!" He replied.
Immediately, He formed hand seals and cast Earth Style: Earth Dome Prison, encasing the wounded and Tokai in protective walls of earth.
Seeing this, Kankurō stepped forward and activated his puppet — Sasori of the Red Sand. Sasori, in turn, manipulated his puppet of Shin, and both puppets charged into battle in perfect unison.
Omoi cloaked his blade in Lightning Style Chakra Flow, waiting for the right moment before lunging in with precision. But Sasori reacted instantly, pulling Shin back with his chakra threads.
From above, Deidara spotted an opening and burst out laughing, "Too slow! Time for some real art, hm! Drink it in!"
A blinding white light began to pour from Shin's abdomen — the unmistakable prelude to an explosion.
Kankurō's eyes narrowed. Without hesitation, he summoned another puppet.
"I've been waiting for this!"
"Secret Black Technique: Salamander Puppet Defense!"
A massive, dark puppet emerged with its gaping mouth wide open. In one gulp, it swallowed Shin just before the detonation could go off.
Inside the puppet, Shin's chakra surged dangerously. Sensing the impending blast, Sai shouted in desperation, "Brother!"
With a thunderous boom, the explosion erupted — contained entirely within the protective puppet Sanshōuo.
High in the air, Deidara, Sasori, and Kakuzu hovered atop Deidara's giant clay bird, observing the situation.
"Tch… He actually predicted it," Deidara sneered, unimpressed. "Burying the defensive puppet beneath Shin weakened the full impact of my art!"
Behind the cover of Sasori's puppet, Omoi let out a breath of relief. "I survived… somehow."
He turned to check on Sai and found him collapsed on the ground, dazed by the explosion's shockwave. In front of Sai lay the same picture album his brother had given him during their childhood.
Sai slowly stood up, eyes fixed on Deidara in the sky. His gaze turned furious. "Bombs?"
Deidara grinned. "Yeah. Got a problem with that, you little poser? You think you're an artist because you can sketch a few lines? Trash. Real art is explosion! You can't even hold a candle to Sasuke, and now you're here pretending to be something you're not? Watch closely — I'll turn your brother into a masterpiece of destruction!"
Sai's face contorted in rage. "How dare you!!!"
Below, Shin's form reconstituted. He looked at Sai and spoke solemnly, "Sai, I don't want to hurt you. Please… find a sealing specialist. If not, I might lose control again."
Deidara burst into laughter. "Baka! If you don't want to fight, fine — I'll turn you into an even better bomb!"
Sai growled. "You bastard! I'm taking you down!"
He unfurled a scroll and shouted, "Super Beast Imitating Drawing!"
A massive ink bird flew from the scroll, lifting Sai into the air. Deidara rolled his eyes. "Not this lame trick again…"
But within seconds, his smirk faded. Sai continued drawing mid-flight, suddenly circling behind Deidara. With a fluid brushstroke, he brought two massive Ink Warriors to life.
Kakuzu grunted. "No!"
The giant warriors slammed into the clay bird with force, sending Deidara, Sasori, and Kakuzu tumbling through the air.
Kankurō seized the chance. "Black Secret Technique: Puppet Cyclone Lock!"
Three Trojan Horse-style puppets rushed forward and opened their chests. In an instant, Deidara, Sasori, and Kakuzu were snatched up, sealed inside, and locked down by chakra-infused restraints.
"Damn it!" Deidara growled, thrashing. "If I'd known, I would've blown myself up from the start!"
He yanked his collar open, preparing to activate his C4 Karura — until Omoi's blade pierced straight into his chest.
"(ÒωÓױ)! Nani?!"
Deidara looked down at the lightning-infused sword. "Damn… you…!"
"Lightning Style: Secret Static Surge!" Omoi channeled more chakra through the blade, short-circuiting Deidara's internal detonators and knocking him unconscious.
Kankurō manipulated Sasori's puppet to extend chakra cords, entering the Trojan Horse puppet and binding Deidara further. Meanwhile, Sasori and Kakuzu had thimbles and chakra spikes pierced into their joints, disabling all movement.
"Nice job, Omoi!" Kankurō praised. "Now, you and Sai focus on Shin!"
Sai landed softly in front of his brother.
"Do you still remember those days in the Foundation, Brother? I always knew there would come a day when we'd face each other. Let's finish what we left incomplete back then."
Omoi stood beside Sai, blade at the ready. "You okay, Sai?"
Shin smiled faintly. "Sai… That's your name now? Good. You've found comrades."
The breeze swept by, flipping through the fallen picture book on the ground. One page turned, revealing a drawing of Shin and Sai — drawn long ago.
Shin stared. He remembered. The promise they had made.
His expression softened.
"Sai… I'm sorry your wish never came true."
Cracks spidered across Shin's body. Sai stepped forward, alarmed. "Brother!"
Smoke billowed from Shin as chunks of his flesh began falling away.
"I finally saw it… the picture I'd been waiting for."
He looked at Sai and smiled peacefully. "Seems your art… freed my soul. Cherish those comrades who call your name. Brother will be going now."
Tears streamed down Sai's cheeks. His brother's final dream was fulfilled — and his own, too.
Nearby, Kankurō tightened his grip on the control strings of the Trojan Horse puppets. Inside, Deidara kept raving.
"Let me out, dammit! I won't hold back this time! You bastards! I'll blow everything up the moment I'm free!"
Sasori murmured, confused. "What's going on…? My thread sense… is gone."
Kankurō ignored Deidara and turned toward Sasori.
"Sasori… you should know. The reason you were powerful wasn't just your techniques. It was because your puppets had soul. But now… you're just an empty shell being used by others."
Sasori's brow furrowed.
Kankurō continued, "Look at your eyes. There's no light in them anymore. Before, even if you were our enemy, your puppets had life — they were genuine works of art because they carried your will. That's what made you a first-class puppet master."
"A puppet with a soul is true art. But now? You're nothing but a lifeless doll."
The words struck deep. Sasori's hands trembled.
Deidara spat, "Don't listen to this bastard, Sasori! Art is explosion! Don't forget that! The only real art is instantaneous brilliance!"
But Kankurō pressed on. "I heard Kabuto was once your subordinate, and now he's reduced you to this? That's not the Sasori I remember. That's not art."
A faint smile crept onto Sasori's lips. Cracks appeared across his body.
"Speaking of art…" Kankurō said quietly, "Sasori, I always believed your true art was in those soulful creations. That kind of art will live on — because new puppet masters will continue that legacy."
Sasori nodded with a faint, peaceful smile. "You're right, Kankurō. Maybe… this is the art I truly longed for."
And with that, Sasori's body disintegrated, piece by piece.
"Hey! Hey! Are you joking right now?!" Deidara shrieked. "Sasori, you bastard! Don't fall for this garbage! I told you — true art is a bang! Not this sentimental crap!"
Sasori's fading voice reached Kankurō, "Take care of my creations, Kankurō."
"...Ah." Kankurō whispered.
Sasori's dream had finally come true. His story had reached its end.
Kakuzu scoffed. "You people are ridiculous. Sasori chased after 'art,' and me? I only care about money. And now? The money's gone. I'm still tied up. What's the point anymore?"
And just like that, Kakuzu's chakra faded, and he, too, crumbled into ash.
Deidara was left alone — screaming incoherently as everyone stared in stunned silence.
