"He seems… better. Did you talk to him?"

Chi Yu gave her a reassuring smile. "He's regaining his spirit. You don't need to worry about him anymore."

Kushina exhaled deeply. "Whew, that's good to hear. Say... did the Hokage call you over today because he wants to send you to the front lines?"

Chi Yu raised an eyebrow, amused. "You figured it out that easily?"

Kushina puffed out her cheeks. "Do you think I'm stupid? Ever since Lord Sakumo's death, Kusagakure has been thrown into chaos. I've seen a lot of shinobi being dispatched that way."

"You're strong, Chi Yu. Of course the Hokage wouldn't keep you stationed in Konoha forever. So, am I right?"

Chi Yu nodded, amused. "Sharp as always. Yes, he asked me to reinforce Kusagakure. I refused—for now. Kakashi hadn't come to terms with Sakumo's death, and I didn't want to leave him behind."

"But now that he's recovering, I have no reason to stay. I'll leave for Kusagakure in two days."

Kushina's expression dropped slightly. "I was just getting used to having you around again. Now you're off again..."

Chi Yu responded calmly, "This war may last five or six years. Maybe more. If everything goes smoothly, maybe only two or three. I'll apply to have you accompany me on missions."

Kushina's eyes lit up. "Really?"

Chi Yu nodded, serious. "Have I ever lied to you?"

A rare look of concern passed over her face. "Chi Yu… does this have something to do with me? With the Nine-Tails?"

He didn't answer directly, but gave her a confident smile.

"Don't worry. I've never been more prepared."

Chi Yu sent Kakashi home to pack his things. They would leave for Kusagakure in the morning.

Meanwhile, Chi Yu made his way alone to one of Orochimaru's secret laboratories, a location he hadn't visited in some time.

Today, he would awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Taking a deep breath, Chi Yu declared, "System, spend 10,000 Witness Points to unlock the Mangekyō Sharingan."

[Exchange confirmed. Do you wish to awaken it now?]

"Awaken."

The moment the word left his lips, searing pain stabbed through his eyes. Chi Yu clutched his face, gritting his teeth as hot tears mixed with blood streamed between his fingers.

His chakra flared.

Through the pain, he could feel something—a new chakra, foreign yet familiar—coalescing in his visual centers.

Time lost meaning.

When the pain finally subsided, he opened his eyes slowly.

His three-tomoe Sharingan spun violently, then began to morph. The tomoe blurred, shifting into an entirely new pattern.

A circular frame surrounded five bladed shapes, fanning out from the center like shuriken.

The Mangekyō Sharingan.

Power surged within him—an illusion of omnipotence. Chi Yu knew this feeling well. The Mangekyō enhanced the Sharingan's perception, reflexes, and chakra flow to a dangerous degree.

But believing himself to be invincible would be foolish.

He resisted the intoxicating sensation.

He could tell it hadn't fully matured yet. The chakra in his eyes continued to grow, slowly refining itself toward a unique dojutsu—one suited specifically to his own combat style.

He closed his eyes, deactivating the Mangekyō Sharingan, allowing the evolution to proceed naturally.

He exhaled deeply.

Once the eye matured fully into its personalized technique, Chi Yu would truly stand among the elite.

That was the power of the Mangekyō Sharingan.

But the power came at a price. The more it was used, the closer one came to blindness. Only two known solutions existed: transplanting the eyes of a blood sibling to obtain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, or incorporating Hashirama's cells to stave off degeneration.

Chi Yu had neither option.

He had no biological brother. The Eternal Mangekyō was out of reach by conventional means.

He glanced at the system's shop. Unlocking the Eternal version through Witness Points required 250,000—five times the cost.

Why?

Because he lacked a sibling. The system compensated by raising the exchange rate significantly.

As for Hashirama's cells… with Orochimaru, that wasn't impossible.

But Chi Yu scoffed at the idea. He wouldn't end up like Madara, whose chest was covered in grotesque grafts. Chi Yu had his pride—and his limits.

He would find his own path forward.
