Chapter 108: CHAPTER 108
Konoha Is Not Worth It
Kakashi staggered back and collapsed to the ground, stunned by what Chi Yu had just said.
"It wasn't just the mission," Chi Yu had told him. "It was the entire village of Konoha that drove your father to take his own life. A village that talks about the Will of Fire, but uses it as nothing more than a mask to deceive."
Kakashi clutched his head, overwhelmed by conflicting emotions.
"I don't understand..." he said in a strained voice. "Was everything my father believed in... a lie?"
Chi Yu's expression was calm, but there was a sharpness in his voice.
"Sakumo-sama wasn't wrong. But the people he sacrificed for? They weren't worth it."
He let out a quiet sigh. "You've seen it for yourself, haven't you? How the villagers treat people like us. They had no understanding of what Sakumo felt when he chose his comrades over the mission. No gratitude, no compassion."
His voice darkened.
"They mocked him. The same people who once praised him as the White Fang of Konoha turned on him in an instant. And they didn't just scorn him—they scorned you, a child who had no say in what happened."
Kakashi's fists trembled.
"They forgot everything Sakumo did during the Second Shinobi World War," Chi Yu continued. "They erased his legacy the moment it was no longer convenient for them. All the talk about unity, trust, and harmony between clans? Just empty words. In reality, the people of Konoha are self-serving. The moment their own interests are at risk, they don't care about truth. They only care about finding someone to blame."
Kakashi gritted his teeth, his breathing uneven.
Chi Yu took a step forward. "You're still young, Kakashi, so you don't know what Konoha is really like. Let me tell you a story. When I was your age... the entire village cursed me."
Kakashi looked up at him in confusion.
Chi Yu's eyes hardened.
"My parents were both Konoha shinobi. My father was from the Senju clan, and my mother was an Uchiha."
Kakashi's eyes widened in shock. He had never heard this before.
"Their love was forbidden," Chi Yu said bitterly. "Even though the Senju and Uchiha clans had declared peace, the hatred still lingered. My parents were seen as traitors by their own blood. When they refused to separate, the Uchiha elders demanded punishment. Under pressure, the village branded them as missing-nin."
His voice turned cold.
"They fled Konoha, choosing exile over betrayal. But even in hiding, they couldn't escape. When other shinobi discovered their identities, they targeted them for their powerful bloodline. My father died protecting us. My mother died just outside Konoha's gates, begging for help that never came."
Kakashi's throat tightened.
"I watched her die, Kakashi. The shinobi on the wall saw her, heard her cries, and still did nothing. Later, they called me a traitor too. Said I was the child of cowards. The Uchiha disowned me. The villagers called me cursed."
Chi Yu's voice cracked slightly, but his expression remained cold and composed.
"The Will of Fire claims it brings unity among the clans. But my parents loved each other, and they were destroyed for it. Does that sound like unity to you?"
Kakashi lowered his head. The foundation of his beliefs felt like it was crumbling beneath him.
Chi Yu knelt in front of him.
"Kakashi, you and I... we're the same. Betrayed by the very people we trusted. Made to watch those we love die for nothing. But you're not alone. I am your teacher, and I will be your family. I will never betray you."
He extended his hand.
"So, Kakashi... will you come with me? Shall we walk forward together?"
Kakashi stared at Chi Yu's hand for a long moment, then slowly reached out and grasped it.
"...Chi Yu-sensei, I'm willing."
A faint smile appeared on Chi Yu's lips as he helped the boy to his feet.
The two stood in silence, the forest around them dark and still. In the distance, Konoha glittered as though untouched by war.
"Kakashi," Chi Yu said quietly, "we're not strong enough yet. Not enough to challenge the village or escape its reach. So for now, we wait. We stay here. We hide our true selves. But when the time comes, we'll break free of this cage."
He paused, then added, "You've been wondering who I'm looking for in Kusagakure, haven't you?"
Kakashi nodded silently.
"I'm looking for members of Kushina's clan. The Uzumaki."
Kakashi's eyes widened.
"...Sensei's wife? The Uzumaki Clan?"
Chi Yu nodded. "Before Kushina was brought to Konoha to become the Nine-Tails' Jinchūriki, she had kin. But Konoha abandoned the Uzumaki clan when they were attacked—did nothing while Uzushiogakure was destroyed. And yet, they had the gall to drag Kushina here and chain her fate to the tailed beast."
Kakashi clenched his jaw.
"Konoha watched a whole allied nation be wiped out... and then forced Kushina-san into being their Jinchūriki. Just because she survived... they decided she was useful."
Chi Yu's voice turned sharp.
"I want to find her people. If I can find even one—one surviving Uzumaki—I'll find a way to replace her as the Nine-Tails' host. But I've searched so long, and I've found nothing. So if it comes to it... I will take Kushina away from Konoha."
Kakashi's response was immediate.
"Then wherever you and Kushina-san go, I'll follow."
Chi Yu shook his head. "No. You must stay. You're still needed here—for now. I've already received a summons from Hiruzen. He's sending me to Kusagakure again. One last time."
