A few days later, Tenten was assigned a mission as well.

Thankfully, it wasn't another task of tailing genin teams. Otherwise, she would have been exhausted mentally.

Natsuki didn't rush to take on an S-rank mission either. Instead, he waited until the night of the first day of the month to enter the special laboratory and begin experimenting with Sage Mode.

"That feeling when the slug injected natural energy into my shadow clone… it was probably like this…"

Natsuki carefully recalled the sensation transmitted back when his shadow clone turned to stone, while also using his mind to alter the lab's environment, filling it with an extremely dense concentration of natural energy.

Since he was trying to absorb natural energy, the denser, the better.

Following that feeling, Natsuki began trying to communicate with the natural energy. He didn't know how much time passed before he felt faint traces of strange energy entering his body.

This energy, though minimal, felt extremely violent.

That must be natural energy!

Natsuki was thrilled internally, but kept his mind steady, continuing to guide the natural energy into his body. However, as the natural energy inside him increased, he felt it growing harder to control.

Gradually, he felt his body starting to turn to stone.

Thankfully, he was in the special laboratory. Otherwise, he'd be dead!

But he wasn't flustered at all. He continued attempting to control the natural energy. Though it was extremely difficult, he kept making progress through trial and error.

Natsuki guessed that Jiraiya's process of entering Sage Mode was probably like this:

Jiraiya absorbed natural energy very slowly, so entering Sage Mode took time. During that time, he had to gradually draw in natural energy while continuously controlling it to avoid turning to stone. Once he absorbed enough, he released it to achieve a balance of 1:1:1 with his body and spiritual energy.

If his guess was right, then the key lay in controlling the natural energy within the body!

Only by controlling the incoming natural energy could he ensure he wouldn't turn to stone. Then, knowing the exact ratio of the three energies, he would be able to release it and achieve a new internal balance.

Explaining it was simple. Doing it was another matter entirely.

Natsuki knew his body and spiritual energy were vast, but he didn't know the exact numbers. To balance them with natural energy, he would have to test little by little.

He didn't care, focusing solely on balancing the three energies within him.

After reaching a basic balance, he had to fine-tune it. Only perfect balance would do.

Thankfully, everything went smoothly. He roughly determined the amount of natural energy he needed to absorb. Even if his body and spiritual energy grew with age, as long as he mastered the method, he wouldn't make mistakes.

The next step was learning how to control the natural energy entering his body!

As his father always said: use magic to defeat magic.

Therefore, he had to use energy to control energy. To control natural energy, his only option was chakra. After all, chakra was a mix of body and spiritual energy, and he had long mastered its manipulation. Controlling natural energy with it shouldn't be too difficult.

Through continuous experimentation, Natsuki finally grasped the basics.

With ten minutes left before the special lab deactivated, he took a deep breath, pressed his hands together, and began absorbing natural energy. As natural energy flooded his body, there was no sign of petrification at all. He had successfully controlled it.

When the natural energy reached the required amount, he suddenly released it, merging it with his chakra.

"Sennin Mode!" (Sage Mode)

The next second, black markings appeared at the corners of his eyes.

He could feel the difference within his body. Compared to ordinary chakra, it was far greater and more ferocious. Without delay, he formed hand seals to unleash a jutsu.

"Senpou Suiton: Suiranha!" (Sage Art Water Release: Wild Water Wave)

Boom! A massive surge of water blasted through the forest ahead, its power ten times stronger than his previous Wild Water Wave.

This was just because he had only just learned Sage Mode. Once he fully mastered it, his jutsu would become even more terrifying.

He deactivated Sage Mode just as the lab's time ended.

"Phew! At least this time wasn't wasted. I've successfully grasped Sage Mode! Next month, I'll practice it again to solidify it. Once I'm confident, I won't have to worry about turning to stone anymore. Also, I need to shorten the activation time. It'd be best to be like Hashirama-sama and activate it instantly. Natsuki was in a great mood. He even skipped morning training, taking a shower before diving back into bed.

He slept straight until afternoon. After eating a good meal, he went to help at the ninja tools shop before heading to the Hokage office.

"You finally came. I thought you'd forgotten," Tsunade said, looking tired.

"Tsunade-sama, you don't look well. Did you drink too much again?" Natsuki asked casually, noticing Shizune and Tonton shaking their heads beside her.

…Not a hangover? But she really looked unwell.

Tsunade waved her hand dismissively.

"Some old fool caused trouble again. Don't worry about it. Since you're here, I'll give you your S-rank mission. It's related to Akatsuki again."

Natsuki took the scroll she handed him and froze after opening it.

It reported sightings of people wearing black cloaks with red clouds in the Land of Wind. One was a blond man with a single ponytail. The other looked like a hunched old man.

"Blond single ponytail? Either Ino or Deidara… But this duo must be Deidara and Sasori."

Natsuki looked at Tsunade without changing his expression.

"Another tracking and intel mission?"

Tsunade nodded.

"Yes. Like last time, find out their identities and abilities. They shouldn't be immortal, so no need to send a team to eliminate them."

No, Sasori was technically immortal too, but not as dangerous as Kakuzu and Hidan.

Natsuki agreed and disappeared in a flash.

If he didn't leave quickly, he would burst out laughing. This was basically a freebie!

All he needed to do was find Deidara and Sasori, tail them for a day or two, then compile the info based on the original timeline and hand in the mission.

Then, his three S-rank missions would be complete, and he could finally access the Senju library…
