Whoosh! All Six Paths of Pain charged straight at Jiraiya!

As soon as the Deva Path extended his hand, Jiraiya was pulled toward him uncontrollably.

"Shinra Tensei!" With a thunderous bang, Jiraiya was blasted into the wall, smoke and debris filling the air.

The Six Paths of Pain scanned their surroundings, searching for Jiraiya.

Suddenly, two toad tongues burst from the water's surface, dragging the Animal Path into a barrier.

"Rasengan!" Jiraiya slammed the Rasengan into the Animal Path's body.

With a wet smack, the Animal Path was swallowed into the toad's stomach acid.

Jiraiya leaned against the stomach wall, gasping.

"What the hell is this thing..." he muttered, watching the Animal Path slowly dissolve.

Suddenly—shunk! A black chakra rod pierced the area next to him.

"Nani?!" Jiraiya's eyes widened in shock as he was suddenly impaled by another rod.

"Little Jiraiya!" The male toad cried out, inflating his body and blasting stomach acid over the Animal Path.

"Ahh!" Jiraiya screamed, "My chakra is going out of control!"

The two toads yanked the black rod out of him quickly.

"Retreat, Little Jiraiya!" the male toad urged.

"Give it up, child!" the female toad added.

Panting heavily, Jiraiya stared at the dissolving Animal Path and said weakly, "I still have a theory I need to confirm!"

"Stop, Jiraiya!" the male toad protested. "With your injuries—"

"I must go to those others now," Jiraiya said, his voice low. "There's something vital I need to verify. Please, both of you—go back!"

"No! If you go out there now, you'll be killed for sure!" the female toad pleaded. "We should escape before the enemy notices!"

"No!" Jiraiya snapped, "This is the closest anyone has gotten to Pain! If I miss this chance, no one will ever get this close again. Isn't this the moment the Great Toad Sage prophesied?!"

"Paa! Maa!" Jiraiya paused. "Please take the intel on Pain and the corpse of the Animal Path... then tell—"

"Just leave that kind of thing to the child's mother," the male toad cut him off gently.

"Come back before dinner," the female toad added softly.

"After it's over, we'll go home and eat together," the male toad promised. "A big worm feast."

Jiraiya smiled faintly. "I can't express how grateful I am..."

One of the toads spit Jiraiya out. He and the male toad landed on a rocky ledge.

The toad summoned a massive Fūma Shuriken and hurled it at the Naraka Path.

The Naraka Path ducked just in time.

In a flash, all five remaining Pains surrounded Jiraiya.

Jiraiya turned to face them, his expression growing grim. "Just as I thought."

"What's wrong, Jiraiya?!" asked the male toad.

"These five... I've met all of them on my journeys!" Jiraiya's eyes widened in horror.

"What?!" the male toad gasped. "Then how do they all have the Rinnegan?!"

BOOM!

"Little Jiraiya!" the male toad shouted.

The Deva Path struck Jiraiya in the neck.

Cough! A spray of blood erupted from his mouth.

"Damn it... my throat..." Jiraiya's vision blurred as he was hurled into a rock.

"I figured it out..." Jiraiya thought, and with his last bit of chakra, he summoned the male toad back to Mount Myōboku.

"Little Jiraiya!" the toad shouted as he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

The five Pains slowly approached.

"Die!" they all shouted, raising their black chakra rods to strike Jiraiya down.

"Hatake Kenjutsu—Iaigiri Flash!"

Suddenly, a voice rang out.

A streak of chakra light flashed from afar, slicing the rods in the Pains' hands.

"Nani?!" All the Pains recoiled. A masked man with white hair and a short sword appeared before them.

Next to him stood an ANBU operative wearing a cat-faced mask.

"Who are you?!" the Deva Path demanded.

Neither figure responded. The ANBU knelt beside Jiraiya.

"So fast!" Pain muttered, shocked.

The ANBU checked Jiraiya and exhaled. "Alive."

"Let's move!" the white-haired ninja barked.

The ANBU picked up Jiraiya, and the pair began retreating at high speed.

"Bastards!" the Deva Path roared. "Don't underestimate me! Banshō Ten'in!"

"Five-Finger Missile Barrage!" Countless missiles launched from Asura Path's wrist, tracking the fleeing pair.

The ANBU tossed Jiraiya to the masked swordsman and turned to face the barrage.

Under the mask, his Sharingan spun furiously—shaped like a sword.

"Susanoo!" the ANBU shouted.

A massive green Susanoo materialized, shielding them.

"That's...!" Pain's eyes widened.

The massive guardian swatted down all the missiles mid-air.

Susanoo's chestplate opened, and a barrage of green chakra arrows launched.

The Preta Path rushed forward to absorb the attack.

BOOM! The explosion sent the Preta Path flying.

"Nani?!" All of Pain's bodies recoiled.

"Shinra Tensei!" the Deva Path activated his technique, causing a massive shockwave.

Smoke and debris clouded the area. When the dust settled, the attackers had vanished.

"That wasn't elemental ninjutsu..." the Deva Path muttered. "But I'm sure of it now."

"It really is you..." he said aloud, "Uchiha Shisui."

"Why didn't you warn us about those two infiltrators?" he asked toward the broken wall.

From the shadows emerged a figure with a plant-like head—Zetsu.

"It must have been Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan... it blocked my sensing."

Zetsu sighed. "We never expected this. Back during the Nine-Tails assault, Itachi, Kisame, and Deidara couldn't even bring down Shisui. Whoever placed that spy almost ruined the plan to seize the Nine-Tails... though it didn't succeed in the end."

"Shut up!" the Deva Path snapped.

"Madara ordered us to destroy Konoha to draw out the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki. That coward Madara fears the eyes of the gods—so let's hunt the Nine-Tails this time."

"Ooh~ A Nine-Tails hunt! I want to see it!" White Zetsu cheered.

"No!" Black Zetsu interrupted. "I want to watch another fight."

"Tch—so annoying," Black Zetsu muttered. "These defective creations of Mother's are just noisy..."

"Jiraiya was rescued. We must evacuate Konoha immediately," the Deva Path ordered. "Or it will be too late."

The remaining Five Paths of Pain all turned southeast—

Toward the largest shinobi village.

Konohagakure.
