mysterious identity

Chapter 8: chapter:8 unraveling secrets

Selena glanced at her desk, which was cluttered with papers. Beside them sat her favorite black coffee, still warm. She picked up a document, sipping her coffee as she absentmindedly rolled a pen between her fingers.

A few moments later, Sera entered her office. "Ma'am, I sent your car to the garage for repairs," she informed Selena.

Selena looked up from her desk, nodding. "Good. How long will it take?"

"They said it should be ready by tomorrow afternoon," Sera replied. "Do you need me to arrange another ride for today?"

Selena leaned back in her chair, considering. "No, I'll manage. Just keep me updated."Sera looked at the messy table and immediately started organizing it.

Selena sighed, setting down her pen. , she looked up at Sera and asked, "Did Damian ask you for my information?" Her tone was calm but firm—she wanted a clear answer.

Sera hesitated before nodding. "Yes, he called me and asked about you. At first, I didn't want to tell him anything, but he insisted that it was important. He mentioned something about needing your parents to believe in him… and in you."

Selena narrowed her eyes slightly. "And did you give him my information?"

Sera lowered her gaze. "I… I did. But only the basic details. Nothing too personal."

Selena leaned back in her chair, deep in thought. Damian was a mystery, and she couldn't ignore the strange familiarity she felt around him. There was something about him that didn't quite add up."Did you check his background?" she asked, her voice steady. She wanted to comfort her doubt , to ease her mind, yet the question lingered in the air.

"Yes," Sera replied, placing a file on the desk. "I found out that one of his closest friends is from the Mason family—one of the wealthiest families in the industry. The young master, Ethan Mason, and Damian have been close since their college days. It's possible that the luxury car he drove belonged to his friend."

Selena absorbed the information, feeling both relieved and intrigued. So, Damian had connections with the elite… but why did he keep such a low profile?

"If anything unusual comes up, inform me immediately," she instructed. "I don't want any unexpected problems regarding Damian."

Sera nodded and left the office.

Selena tapped her fingers on the desk, her thoughts circling back to Damian. Why did he feel so familiar to her? It was like a puzzle she couldn't solve, no matter how hard she tried.

A Growing PressureShaking off her thoughts, she picked up her phone and made a call. "Come to my office," she instructed the person on the other end.

Minutes later, the door opened, and a well-dressed woman entered. She was Ava Sinclair, the head fashion designer of the company, known for her elegance and talent. Yet, as she stepped inside, her posture was tense.

"You called for me, ma'am?" she asked hesitantly, her voice soft and nervous, as if unsure of what had happened.

"You called for me, ma'am?" she asked hesitantly, her voice soft and nervous, as if unsure of what had happened.

Selena studied her carefully, her eyes narrowing as she took in the situation. "Yes," she said, her tone growing more serious. "We have a fashion event next week, yet your department hasn't completed its work. Do you think this is a joke?" Her voice was sharp, each word cutting through the silence, laced with the full weight of her authority. The tension in the room thickened as Selena's gaze remained fixed, her disappointment palpable. "This isn't just a task; it's an important responsibility, and we cannot afford to fall behind. Understand the gravity of the situation."

Ava swallowed nervously, her throat dry as she struggled to maintain composure under Selena's intense gaze. "I understand, ma'am," she replied, her voice shaking slightly but filled with sincerity. "I sincerely apologize. We're working on it, and I assure you, everything will be ready before the event." She paused, trying to steady herself, her mind racing as she searched for the right words to reassure her boss. "We just need a little more time. We're doing everything we can to make sure everything meets your expectations. I know how important this event is, and I promise we won't let you down. Please give us just a bit more time, and we'll have it all sorted out." Her hands clenched together, a silent gesture of determination, hoping Selena could sense her earnestness.

She looked at Ava with a piercing gaze, her expression cold and unyielding. "If you and your team don't fix this issue immediately, be prepared to lose your job," she warned, her voice dangerously calm, every word cutting through the air like a sharp blade. The silence that followed felt suffocating, as if the weight of her words hung heavily in the room. Ava could feel the tension tightening around her chest, the reality of the threat sinking in.

Selena's eyes didn't waver, her authority unmistakable. "This isn't a matter of a few missed tasks; it's about responsibility, professionalism, and the image we present. If you can't handle this, then perhaps you're not the right person for the job. I expect results, not excuses." Her tone remained composed, but there was a quiet fury behind her words, the kind that made it clear this was no idle threat.

Ava could only nod, her mind racing with the fear of what might happen if she failed to meet the expectations laid before her.

Selena sighed, rubbing her temple in frustration. She looked at Ava,"You can go now," she said, her voice firm yet tired.

"Yes, ma'am," Ava responded quickly, her voice tinged with nervousness, before hurrying out of the room, the weight of the conversation still pressing on her mind.

As the door closed, Selena leaned back in her chair, exhaling slowly. Between Damian's mystery and the chaos at work, things were starting to feel overwhelming.

And yet, she couldn't shake off the strange feeling in her chest, the feeling that something big was about to change.

A Moment to BreatheSelena picked up her phone and dialed Sera's number, her fingers pressing the keys with practiced ease. "Bring lunch to my office today," she instructed, her voice calm but firm. They usually ate outside, but today the workload was too much to leave the office.

"Understood, ma'am," Sera replied.

Selena sighed, rubbing her temples. She felt frustrated but continued working through the pile of documents on her desk.

Fifteen minutes later, Sera entered the office, carefully carrying lunch in her hand—a sandwich wrapped neatly in paper and a glass of strawberry juice. She set the items down on the desk with a soft clink, her movements quick yet precise. "Here you go, ma'am," she said quietly, glancing up at Selena to make sure everything was just as she wanted.

"You brought lunch?"Selena asked, glancing up from the glass of strawberry juice. Her tone was casual, but there was a hint of gratitude in her voice as she regarded Sera, who had quietly placed the lunch in front of her.

"Yes, ma'am," Sera replied, her voice steady as she set the table carefully. She arranged everything neatly, making sure the sandwich and juice were placed just right.

Selena stared at the strawberry juice for a moment, her gaze softening as memories of her childhood resurfaced. She had always loved strawberries, their sweet, tart taste evoking feelings of simpler times. Without thinking, she took a sip, savoring the familiar flavor. For just a brief moment, she allowed herself to relax, letting the small comfort of the juice ease some of the tension building inside her. The brief escape, however small, felt like a welcome reprieve from the chaos of her day.

Sera quietly sat down and began eating alongside Selena. The two ate in silence, the weight of the day pressing on them. Once lunch was finished, Selena set her glass aside and looked up, her expression already shifting back into business mode. "Schedule my meeting with the board members," she said, her voice firm and determined. "I need to resolve these issues." Sera nodded, immediately pulling out her phone to handle the request, understanding the urgency in Selena's tone.

"I'll inform you in half an hour," Sera said, her usual composed self, her tone professional as she quickly got to work on arranging the meeting. She knew the importance of the task and didn't waste any time, already focused on making sure everything was in order.

Selena nodded, leaning back in her chair as she let out a quiet sigh. Her mind was already shifting to the upcoming meeting, preparing for the discussions ahead. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, gathering her thoughts before diving back into the relentless flow of work.
