Chapter 35: but in the End I loss

Mike was holding onto Giel's arm — he helped him stay standing. If Giel let go, Mike would fall.

Then suddenly,

an explosion —

Giel and Mike saw Kad and Lasa flying through the wall.

Mike screamed,

"NOOOOO!"

Then they heard:

"Miiikeee, the Eagle is coming for youuu!"

They heard Reg laughing.

Giel whispered something into Mike's ear.

Mike quickly hid, and Giel stood alone in the hallway.

"Oh… you're not the one I'm looking for," said Reg.

"So get out of my way."

Giel stood firm.

Reg shouted,

"You're really starting to piss me off!"

Eagle Flight!

Reg leapt toward Giel —

In mid-air, glowing eagle wings formed around Reg's arm.

The strike hit Giel

right in the face.

Giel smiled as he was hit, and got launched far back.

"He's even weaker than I thought. Pathetic!" Reg laughed.

Then suddenly, from the side:

"WOLF STRIKEEEE!"

Reg got hit —

but he didn't fly back.

Because…

Mike's hand had hit the bloody wound

he'd made earlier with his claws.

His hand was deep in

Reg's stomach.

Reg coughed blood.

Mike yelled,

"BITE PACK!"

Two wolves jumped from the side

and bit into Reg's shoulder.

Mike pulled his hand out of Reg's stomach and screamed:

"WOLF STRIKEEEE!!!"

System Message:

Wolf Strike upgraded – magic all day.

"YES!"

The enhanced Wolf Strike hit Reg right in the face.

The Bite Pack vanished,

and Reg was thrown against the wall —

breaking through it.

It was the strongest Wolf Strike Mike had ever delivered.

Quest Complete:

Kill Player 'Eagle'

1 / 1

Reg smiled faintly,

saw his HP drop to 0,

and said his final words:

"But in the end… I lost."

Mike lost consciousness.

The last thing he heard was:

"The Commanders are here…"

Then, everything went black.

"Hey… Mike?"

Slowly, he opened his eyes.

He was lying in a bright room —

a hospital.

His body was wrapped in bandages — his arm, his head… practically everywhere.

Someone stood beside him.

Lasa.

She was crying.

When she saw that Mike was awake, she carefully leaned into him and hugged his chest.

"Mikeeee…"

She sobbed harder.

Mike tried to move, but the pain held him down.

"La…sa… hey…" he whispered.

Lasa had a bandage over her nose —

it was broken.

"Thank God you're awake…" she said through tears.

"Mike… something terrible has happened."

Mike's heartbeat quickened.

"Kad… is still unconscious. It's been an entire day now."

She paused for a moment.

"And… Giel…"

Mike looked at her, his voice trembling.

"No…"

Lasa looked down.

"Giel is…"

"NO!"

"…he's gone, Mike."

Silence.

Lasa kept talking, but Mike's world faded into a dull, empty silence.

As if someone had turned the volume off.

Giel… dead?

That couldn't be true.

He wouldn't believe it.

"No… I don't accept this!" Mike suddenly shouted.

His voice cut through the air.

"How do you even know that?"

Lasa swallowed.

"We searched everywhere. The entire area. We only found… his arm."

Mike stared at her in shock.

"What?"

"Yes…" Lasa said quietly.

A long pause. Then:

"Lasa… I love you… but please… I need to be alone right now."

She nodded silently, sadly.

Then quietly left the room.

Click.

The door closed.

Immediately, Mike opened the system menu.

His magic had returned.

He summoned:

"Strike."

The large wolf appeared, waiting for his command.

"Strike… search for Giel's body. Take Bite and Pack with you. Please."

The three wolves nodded.

Then, he picked up the letter —

with the hand that still worked.

He opened it and began to read:

"Please do not share this."

Mike, you fought well.

It seems the power was too much for Reg —

he has died.

We couldn't save him.

It's hard to explain, but we're currently discussing what happens next…

whether or not you'll be allowed to continue your training.

But remember:

he tried to kill you.

It was self-defense.

We will keep you updated.

– The Base

Mike stared at the letter.

He had leveled up.

Level 55.

Then, exhaustion took over.

He closed his eyes, hoping…

his wolves would wake him when the time was right.

In the middle of the night…

He was awakened.

The door creaked open.

It was his wolves.
