Chapter 863: Almost the Same
Upon Gu Lan's inquiry, Qing'er solemnly said, "I need the holy artifact of the Ancient God Clan, the Ancient Holy Flower."
"Where is it? I'll go get it now!" Gu Lan responded with some excitement, but Qing'er shook her head.
"The guardian of that item is Bai Ze. If you go, you may not be able to obtain it."
"We must try. How does his power compare to Chaos?" Gu Lan asked, feeling anxious but needing to confirm before taking action. He didn't want Bai Ze to be as strong as Chaos. In that case, he would rather find a way to deal with Chaos directly.
"Much weaker than Chaos." Qing'er replied without changing her expression, which eased Gu Lan's concern.
"Then, I'll rely on you to point me in the right direction." Gu Lan said, determined. Qing'er was taken aback.
"Are you truly going?" she asked.
Gu Lan nodded, his expression resolute. "I have to try."
Seeing his determination, Qing'er didn't protest further and reluctantly nodded. "Please follow me."
With a wave of her hand, the space before them twisted. Gu Lan couldn't help but furrow his brow as he felt the overwhelming power emanating from her.
"This energy is truly powerful!" Gu Lan muttered, feeling a slight dizziness.
In a moment, the scene before him shifted. When he opened his eyes again, they were back on the Ancient God Battlefield. He looked around, confused, as he sensed nothing here. As he was pondering, Qing'er casually raised her hand, and the earth beneath them tore apart.
Looking down, Gu Lan was stunned by the sight of a deep chasm, the bottom of which was hidden in darkness, filled with terrifying true energy. Although he wasn't concerned about the power, he couldn't see through the ominous energy surrounding it.
While Gu Lan was contemplating, Qing'er spoke calmly, "The Ancient Holy Flower is at the bottom of this chasm. If you can retrieve it, I will help you deal with Chaos."
As soon as Qing'er finished speaking, Gu Lan's body became a blur as he dove into the chasm. His true energy surged, and a golden light enveloped him.
Seeing the power Gu Lan displayed, Qing'er was briefly stunned. "The sword also contains the Power of Heaven Path," she murmured to herself. At that moment, a sudden headache hit her, and fragmented images flashed in her mind.
...
Gu Lan's speed was astonishing, and in the blink of an eye, he reached the bottom of the chasm. It was dark, and the true energy here was dense. His brow furrowed, and his expression grew even more serious.
After scanning his surroundings, Gu Lan sensed that something was off, though he couldn't pinpoint what exactly.
Just as he was deep in thought, a figure appeared in the distance. Upon seeing it, Gu Lan's face darkened.
He took a step forward, and a deafening roar echoed through the chasm. The sound reverberated, and the entire space trembled.
The moment Gu Lan felt the power, his face turned grim. The energy radiating from the roar felt much stronger than he had expected.
Qing'er had told him that Bai Ze's strength was weaker than Chaos's, but the intensity of the energy made it seem otherwise. With no way to back out now, Gu Lan braced himself and charged forward. His sword shimmered, creating countless sword shadows that filled the sky with brilliance.
But to his surprise, the figure he had just seen had vanished.
Bewildered, Gu Lan stopped, and before he could react, a massive shadow rushed toward him. Bai Ze's speed was terrifyingly fast, and Gu Lan didn't have time to prepare himself.
An explosion rocked the air, and Gu Lan was blasted backward a hundred feet.
"Boom!"
When he finally regained his footing, a grave expression filled his face. He hadn't expected Bai Ze's strength to be so overwhelming. Looking at his opponent, Gu Lan noticed that Bai Ze's build was similar to Chaos, and the energy emanating from him was nearly identical.
Gu Lan quickly retreated, muttering, "Not much difference."
With a wry smile, he stopped and unleashed a barrage of sword strikes. The swords whistled through the air, their sharpness tearing at the very fabric of space. In an instant, Bai Ze was engulfed by the sword light, with no room to defend himself.
But to Gu Lan's surprise, when the power dissipated, Bai Ze appeared to have only sustained light injuries. Even though there were sword marks on him, they were minor, causing little damage.
Gu Lan's attack had failed to inflict serious harm, only angering Bai Ze. With an enraged roar, the surrounding energy exploded outward.
"Boom!"
The shockwave of true energy slammed into Gu Lan, pushing him back a hundred feet. He struggled to steady himself, spitting out blood, his face turning pale.
He was certain now that Bai Ze's strength was almost on par with Chaos. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for a single roar to knock him back like this.
Gu Lan's expression darkened as he quickly retreated. He couldn't afford to fight head-on; if he did, he'd be killed here.
There was no need to waste time with Bai Ze—he needed to escape and figure out another way to solve this problem.
Expecting Bai Ze to chase him, Gu Lan was relieved when, after retreating a hundred feet, he no longer sensed Bai Ze's presence.
Finally, in a secluded area, Gu Lan relaxed and shifted his energy to begin recovering his injuries. Now wasn't the time for hesitation; he needed to heal quickly to avoid further complications.
His healing speed was swift, and in no time, he had recovered about seventy to eighty percent of his strength.
Slowly opening his eyes, Gu Lan's expression was grave. He wasn't sure how to proceed. He couldn't defeat Bai Ze directly, but he still had to obtain the Ancient Holy Flower.
After careful consideration, Gu Lan's face darkened, and he formulated a plan. He couldn't take on Bai Ze head-on, so he would have to proceed cautiously and first find the location of the Ancient Holy Flower.
This time, Gu Lan kept his energy suppressed, hiding it to avoid detection. He moved cautiously, not making a sound.
Before long, he noticed Bai Ze's figure. The latter appeared to be asleep, but there was still a terrifying aura around him.
