My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Described in Two Words: Gambling Addict

Monday morning. As usual, Hagawa first went for a run, then practiced his swordsmanship. On his way past the Konoha Knowledge Bookstore, he popped in and received some good news. Tsuchihashi had already found a novelist to start writing Taimanin. According to the plot, Taimanin would be divided into three volumes: top, middle, and bottom. If the writing was fast enough, the first volume might be published as early as next week.

After practicing Konoha-ryū Swordsmanship, Hagawa took a shower and then went to school with Kurenai. They arrived relatively early, and less than a third of the classroom seats were filled. Many of the students who were there earlier were frantically rushing to finish their homework, occasionally having to copy from others.

Hagawa said a few words to Kurenai and then went to his seat. He casually opened a medical book and started reading.

"Um... can I bother you for a moment?" a clear voice asked.

Hagawa looked up and saw Rin Nohara.

"I'd like to ask you about a question," Rin stated her purpose. Her gaze subconsciously drifted to the medical book in Hagawa's hands. What's that? Is that a textbook from the school?

"What question?" Hagawa was a little surprised. Unlike Obito, Rin's grades were excellent. In the first three monthly tests, her theory exam scores were consistently in the top three. Because he was a transfer student, Hagawa had only participated in one, and he was just messing around. The next monthly test would be the final exam he had been looking forward to.

"This question," Rin said, bending over and spreading her notebook open.

"There are four ways to solve this problem," Hagawa said, casually picking up a pen. "Like this, and like that..."

Rin's eyes widened instinctively. There are four ways to write it?

"Alright, is there anything else you don't understand?" Hagawa asked, lightly tapping the notebook with his pen to signify he was done.

"N-no, there's nothing else," Rin said, snapping back to her senses. "Thank you," she said earnestly.

The small interlude ended. Hagawa continued to read his medical book. Rin returned to her seat. After finishing her homework, she found herself spacing out a bit, her gaze unknowingly drifting towards Hagawa. He's handsome and a genius. I wonder if I can be friends with him. And was that book a medical book? Rin had always dreamed of becoming a medical ninja, but she never would have imagined that Hagawa would start studying medical ninjutsu in his first year.

The class bell rang. Unsurprisingly, Obito was late again, and again, and again, and again.

The morning class was on the Ninja Code. As a ninja, one needed to have a will of steel, especially during missions, and resist all temptations. In Hagawa's words: "By the yellow heavens above, I swear that I and gambling and drugs are irreconcilable enemies!"

Time passed, and soon it was dusk. As school was about to end, the atmosphere in the classroom was restless; no one had the mind to listen to the lecture. Asuma glanced at Hagawa and Kurenai and couldn't help but grit his teeth. Time for my 8 AM class! Although he really wanted to challenge Hagawa again, he wanted a victory screen, not a failure replay. He planned to first study under Hiruzen for a while and wait until he was certain of victory before trying again. Until then, he could only endure. Is this the price of growth? Asuma sighed.

"Rin," Obito said, nudging her with his elbow. "Where should we go play after school?"

"Pay attention to the lecture," Rin reminded him in a low voice. Suddenly, her gaze froze, her pupils contracting slightly.

"That's..." Obito followed her line of sight towards the classroom door. A figure stood there, bathed in the dim yellow sunlight. Without a word, she could attract everyone's attention.

"It's Lady Tsunade," Kakashi said, momentarily stunned.

Rin subconsciously covered her mouth, her heart feeling like it was about to leap out of her chest. She's seeing the living Lady Tsunade?!

"Tsu... Tsu..." Shizune instinctively patted Hagawa's arm, unable to speak for a moment.

"Is it really that big of a deal?" Hagawa asked, not quite understanding.

"That's Lady Tsunade!" Shizune said, staring at her. "The greatest female ninja in the world!"

The greatest? More like the biggest. Hagawa didn't have the heart to tell Shizune the truth. For Tsunade to come looking for him at this time, it was most likely because her gambling addiction had flared up and she needed him to alleviate it.

An unavoidable commotion broke out in the classroom. Asuma was very calm. As the Hokage's son, he had seen the Legendary Sannin countless times. But seeing his classmates acting so unsophisticated, he couldn't help but feel a little smug.

Tsunade's eyes narrowed slightly as she searched the room, finally spotting Hagawa.

"Lady Tsunade," Eiichiro quickly adopted a respectful attitude.

"How much longer until class is over?" Tsunade asked casually.

"Class can be dismissed now," Eiichiro said after a pause. "Is there something you need?" He quickly ran through the files of all the students in his mind but couldn't find anyone who was related to Tsunade. Could she be looking for Asuma?

"I'm looking for Hagawa," Tsunade said calmly.

Eiichiro's heart jolted. He has this kind of connection?

"Hagawa!" Eiichiro turned his head and called out loudly. "Come out here."

Asuma's expression froze. Why is it Hagawa again?!

"What's going on?" Obito asked, stunned.

Kakashi frowned slightly. Could it be that Hagawa has also learned medical ninjutsu? If that's true, then the final exam will be more troublesome than I thought. For a moment, even he, who was called a genius, felt the pressure.

Rin suddenly remembered the medical book Hagawa was reading that morning. Besides being shocked, a trace of admiration rose in her heart.

Under everyone's gaze, Hagawa walked to the door.

"Let's go," Tsunade said without any extra words, turning to leave. Hagawa quickly followed.

After a few seconds of silence, the classroom erupted into a noisy hubbub. Seeing this, Eiichiro didn't try to stop them; there were only a few minutes left until dismissal anyway.

"Why is Lady Tsunade looking for Hagawa?"

"Could it be to teach him medical ninjutsu?"

"Hagawa is so amazing!"

Thanks to Tsunade's fame, everyone began to gossip.

"What's the big deal?!" Asuma couldn't listen anymore and stood up. The nearby students all looked at him with strange expressions. Asuma's body trembled as they stared, his heart filled with grief and indignation. It's just Tsunade! Believe it or not, next time I'll bring the Hokage himself for you all to see!

Hagawa and Tsunade left the school. As expected, she was heading in the direction of the casino.

"How does it feel to be the center of attention?" Tsunade asked, a teasing look on her face. "Feeling like you're walking on air?"

"Not really," Hagawa said casually. A group of six-year-olds couldn't get him that excited.

So sharp? Tsunade stopped, reached out, and vigorously ruffled his head. "Stop pretending to be an adult."

"I'm telling the truth," Hagawa said helplessly.

"I lost 500,000 ryō today," Tsunade said, rolling her eyes at him. "If you don't win it back for me, watch out, or I'll spank you."

"No problem," Hagawa nodded. If Chen Daozai could win 37 million from 20 dollars, then winning back 500,000 is no problem for me. I'm the Gambling Fiend... oh wait, no, the God of Gamblers.
