My Pokemon Turned into Girls?!

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Boss Giovanni

Just like in stories where the police always arrive last, it wasn't until the battle was completely over and the battlefield had grown eerily cold that the Vermilion City police force finally showed up.

As the only adult among the three and the Gym Leader of Vermilion City, Lt. Surge naturally took charge of dealing with the police.

"I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Surge. It seems Team Rocket had set up signal jammers in the area, which made it difficult for us to pinpoint the source. Once we did, we rushed over immediately, but we still failed to capture any of the criminals. This is truly a failure on our part!"

The leader of the police force, Officer Jenny (Vermilion City's variant), bowed repeatedly at a 90-degree angle, her face filled with guilt as she apologized to the burly man in front of her.

On the other side, Lt. Surge awkwardly scratched the back of his head.

After all, in a way, he hadn't contributed much to the battle—it was mostly the two kids who carried the fight.

Accepting such an apology made him feel a bit guilty.

But… no remnants of the criminals? How was that possible? There should have been a whole group of captured Team Rocket grunts.

"However, while we didn't capture any Team Rocket members, we did find a large number of uniformly designed, oddly shaped dolls at the scene. We suspect these are another symbol of Team Rocket's criminal activities, following their 'R' insignia."

As she spoke, Officer Jenny pulled out a doll dressed in a black Team Rocket uniform. "Among the dolls, this is the only one wearing an official Team Rocket uniform. We're not sure what it signifies…"

"Uh, well…" Lt. Surge's expression turned rather peculiar. "Actually, what you're holding in your hand right now is a Team Rocket member."

Hearing this, Officer Jenny froze.

She looked down at the doll in her hand… Indeed, the doll was lying face up in her palm, its eyes seemingly staring right at her.

A chill ran down her spine, and with a startled scream, she flung the Rocket grunt doll away, sending it crashing to the ground.

At the same time, a police officer who was backing up while helping his colleagues move a heavy piece of equipment didn't notice the doll at his feet and stepped right on it.

Crunch.

Whether it was his imagination or not, Lt. Surge thought he heard something snap. But since Sabrina's dolls were made of cloth, it shouldn't have been a problem, right?

Come to think of it, the guy who got turned into a doll was the same jerk who had kicked him in the stomach earlier…

With that thought, Lt. Surge's guilt vanished, replaced by a sense of satisfaction.

Officer Jenny hurriedly ran over to pick up the doll, slapping it several times to dust it off.

Was she really not doing this on purpose? Watching the scene unfold, Lt. Surge couldn't help but wonder, though he didn't dare say it out loud.

To prevent the poor Rocket grunt from being tortured to death before returning to human form and mainly because the guy seemed to hold a higher position among the grunts and likely knew more intel—Lt. Surge walked over to Sabrina, who was silently watching the police clean up the scene while holding onto Kazuki's arm, and tentatively asked:

"Sabrina, since it's all over… could you maybe undo the Psychic?"

As usual, the girl didn't respond to him.

It wasn't until Kazuki also patted her that her eyes glowed green, and the pile of dolls turned back into human forms.

Of course, the sudden appearance of the Rocket grunts caused another commotion among the police.

Lt. Surge wasn't concerned about the Vermilion City police's troubles.

He just felt like he'd been force-fed another mouthful of dog food… Damn it, how many times had he been fed this during the special operation? Are kids these days really that mature? He's a single man in his thirties or forties, for crying out loud!

"By the way, aside from Mr. Surge, we'd also like to thank Sabrina, the Gym Leader of Saffron City, and Kazuki… the unofficial investigator, for their participation in this operation. However, we'll need to take a bit more of your time later for some statements. I just wanted to let you know in advance. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience."

Though exhausted from the intense battle and ready to collapse into bed, Kazuki couldn't refuse Officer Jenny's earnest request and nodded in understanding.

Seeing this, Officer Jenny smiled lightly. "Thank you for your cooperation. As expected, you're as outstanding as the rumors say. It's an honor to meet you."

Another Officer Jenny who knew about him? Wait… it wasn't that strange, considering his young age and status as an unofficial investigator.

It made sense that someone within the system like Officer Jenny would have heard of him.

Seemingly reading his thoughts from his expression, Officer Jenny shook her head:

"I'm not referring to your status… but rather everything you've done since your debut. You've thwarted two major crimes against Pokémon, taken down three notorious Pokémon poachers, and your stories have spread throughout our family."

"And now, with your help in this incident, you've once again proven yourself. So young, yet so committed to justice, risking your life to fight against lawlessness. You're truly a role model for the younger generation of the Jenny family!"

Being praised like this, Kazuki felt his face heat up with embarrassment. Just then, Lt. Surge, who had been listening to their conversation, suddenly interjected:

"By the way, I've been meaning to ask when did you start as a trainer?"

"This year, of course! Do I look like I've been traveling for a long time?" Kazuki replied, somewhat exasperated.

"True," Lt. Surge stroked his chin, thinking aloud. "But you've only got three badges, and you've already been involved in two criminal incidents, plus today makes three… Are you some kind of magnet for crime or something?"

Kazuki: ?

"Sabrina," Kazuki suddenly turned to the girl, his voice unusually gentle.

"What is it, Kazuki?" Sabrina tilted her head, sensing a hidden edge in his tone—though it wasn't directed at her.

"Didn't Gym Leader Surge say he wanted to challenge you earlier? I think now's a great opportunity. Why not grant his wish? Oh, and if he loses, just do what you usually do."

"If that's what Kazuki wants…" Sabrina's red eyes locked onto Lt. Surge, making his spiky yellow hair stand even straighter.

Are you kidding me? After witnessing that girl's abilities, challenging her would be insane!

But Lt. Surge's objections were clearly useless. Sabrina's eyes were already glowing with Psychic energy…

In an instant, the man's screams echoed through the sky: "Stay away from me!!!"

"Boss Giovanni, I failed to perfectly complete the mission you assigned. I am willing to accept any punishment."

In a dimly lit basement, Raviel knelt on one knee, his uniform neatly pressed.

In front of him, a large screen displayed the silhouette of Team Rocket's leader, seated on a luxurious red armchair, his back turned.

"There's no need to feel ashamed, Raviel. This failure isn't solely your responsibility," the screen emitted the magnetic voice of a middle-aged man.

"We mobilized forces across Kanto to distract the League, but we didn't anticipate the Saffron City Gym Leader suddenly appearing in Vermilion City and stumbling upon the deal."

"In fact, it's thanks to your quick thinking that our partnership with the Evolution Association remains intact. From that perspective… I should be praising you."

Hearing this, Raviel's expression remained unchanged. "I don't deserve such praise. To be honest, I'm contacting you not only to report the mission's outcome but also to share what I believe is important information."

"Oh? Go on."

"Aside from Sabrina and Lt. Surge, there was also a young trainer who thwarted us. His Pokémon are incredibly strong, far beyond what you'd expect from a rookie. One of them, a black Lairon, was especially formidable. It took out most of our Pokémon with a single Earthquake."

Raviel's eyes gleamed as he maintained his posture, waiting. After a long silence, the Boss's voice finally spoke again, slow and deliberate:

"A black Lairon, Earthquake… Raviel, in just a few words, you've mentioned several things that intrigue me. So, what do you suggest I do?"

At this, Raviel finally raised his head, his tone respectful as he addressed the Boss's silhouette on the screen. "Boss Giovanni, I suggest we extend an olive branch to that boy. Based on my experience fighting him, with proper training, he could become a high-ranking officer in no time."

The room fell silent, save for the soft sound of a cigarette being tapped against an ashtray. After a moment, the Boss exhaled a puff of smoke and spoke:

"Raviel, you could have just eliminated the boy and brought me that rare black Lairon. That would have earned you a hefty reward. Why recommend him instead? If he joins Team Rocket and rises through the ranks, it could threaten your position, couldn't it?"

"Because that boy's style fits Team Rocket perfectly, and I know that our current Team Rocket is far from fulfilling your ambitions…"

Placing a hand over his heart, Raviel's eyes shone with devotion, his voice growing more passionate. "The Team Rocket you envision isn't confined to the shadows or even the Kanto region—it's a super organization that will encompass the entire world!"

"To achieve that goal, you seek to control not only rare and powerful Pokémon but also rare and powerful trainers. Your vision, which encompasses the universe itself, is truly awe-inspiring. That's why I'm willing to follow you to the ends of the earth—all for a white tomorrow!"

"Hahaha!" After hearing his impassioned speech, the Boss burst into hearty laughter.

"Well said, Raviel. You truly are one of Team Rocket's finest. Pokémon, trainers, resources… everything in this world should belong to Team Rocket! I'll take your advice. We'll offer that exceptional boy the best terms. If he's willing to join Team Rocket, I, Giovanni, am never stingy with talent."

"Understood." Raviel bowed his head once more, his loyalty unwavering.
