My new life in Hell

Chapter 55: The harvest moon

(Geri POV)

I was in the bathroom, showering after finishing breakfast. The cold water helped wake me up, rinsing off any dirt clinging to my fur.

As I finished, I slid open the shower door and reached for my towel—only for it to land directly in my hand.

"Here you go, buddy!"

Startled, I slipped on some soap, hit my head, and everything went black. My vision faded, but before it did, I saw horns approaching me through the blur.

Suddenly, I woke up in Blitzo's van.

He was wearing a cowboy outfit. Actually, everyone was in cowboy gear—including me.

I looked down and saw I'd been dressed in black western clothes: a Stetson hat, a poncho, and sleek boots. It was like some modern cowboy cosplay.

I turned to glare at Blitzo.

"What the hell, man?! Why'd you knock me out and kidnap me?!"

Blitzo didn't even flinch. "Well, to be fair, I didn't knock you out. The bathroom did. And besides, I already got permission from your daddy to take you with us."

"Wait—Dad agreed?" I blinked, confused, then looked out the window. The sky outside was glowing red.

"Where are we?"

"Oh, we're in Wrath. There's a festival Stolas is hosting."

I sighed and leaned back in my seat, sitting next to Luna. She had her nose buried in her phone.

I peeked at the screen. Dating tips?

"Hey Luna, you dating someone?"

She blushed bright red and quickly hid her phone. "Oh! Uh, no!... Just checking some tips for a guy I might like."

"Really?" I grinned. "Well, if you ever need help landing him, you can always call me, bro!"

I wrapped an arm around her in a friendly hug.

"Hehe... yeah." She smiled, but her eyes dropped back to her phone—looking a bit down.

---

After a few more minutes, we arrived at our destination: a big farmhouse with two imps standing out front who looked a lot like Millie.

Blitzo stopped the van, and we all got out. Millie rushed ahead and hugged her family with enough force to flatten a bear. Moxxie followed and greeted her parents... but they didn't seem too impressed.

Then Blitzo stepped up to say hello, trying way too hard—but surprisingly, it looked like he was getting along with them.

Millie introduced Luna and me as the Hellhounds. Luna, the receptionist. Me? The muscle. Her folks gave us a nod and waved everyone inside.

Before we could go in, though, they called out for one of their farmhands.

He rode up on a demonic horse. Said his name was Striker. He seemed chill enough, though Moxxie didn't look too happy about how casually he chatted with Millie.

After introductions, Striker showed us the games they were holding for the festival. Moxxie, ever the competitive type—even if he won't admit it—joined in almost instantly.

Blitzo, of course, dove in right after.

Millie's dad turned to me and asked if I wanted to join, complimenting my muscles and saying I'd probably win.

I politely declined. My head still hurt from the fall in the bathroom.

---

The games began... and Moxxie did not have a great time.

He was either finishing dead last or getting knocked around by the competition. The weirdest part? Some demonic shark kept attacking him every round, only when he was already down. No idea where it kept coming from.

After the last event, Millie put her foot down and made Moxxie stop, not wanting to see her husband get suplexed by the shark again.

Then Stolas stepped onstage and called up the winners: Blitzo and Striker.

Striker sang a victory song... which, honestly, kinda sucked.

After the winners were announced, Uncle Stolas walked over to me.

"Good to see you here, nephew."

"Hey, Uncle Stolas. What's up?"

"I wanted to thank you for speaking with Via after our last... encounter. She's been much more open and happier lately."

"I'm glad I could help."

He smiled and gave me a hug.

"Oh, and please give your father my thanks for the gift he made me. It's a lovely necklace."

He showed me a red necklace with intricate engravings on it.

"I'll tell him you liked it," I said with a nod.

He returned to the stage, getting ready for the final event: the Harvest Moon ceremony.

---

A few hours later, the sun dipped below the horizon, and it was almost time to bless—or curse—the harvest with the moon's light.

I was actually excited. I'd never seen the full moon on Earth. I always had to leave before it rose.

As I sat on one of the benches near the stage, Luna approached holding two corn dogs.

"Hey... mind if I sit here?" she asked.

"Sure." I scooted over to make room.

She sat down and handed me one of the corn dogs.

"So, I was wondering... how are things with your girlfriend?" she asked, her eyes flicking away.

"Oh? Why do you ask?"

"Just curious."

I smirked. "Well, despite being a literal ruler of Hell, she's been spending a lot of time with me lately—especially on my days off. Even hangs with my family."

"Oh... that's nice." Luna paused, then asked, "Hey... who's your mom? I mean, whenever we visit your place, there are always two women looking after us. I never know which one's your mom."

I chuckled. "This might sound weird, but... they both are."

Luna choked on her corn dog. "Really?! How does that work?"

"No clue. Dad somehow made it work. He's never really told me how they met."

Just then, the stage lights brightened, and Stolas stepped forward.

I turned toward the stage, eager to see the Harvest Moon. I could feel Luna looking at me—this was her moment. She was going to confess. She wanted us to be more than just friends.

But before she could say a word...

Stolas opened the portal to reveal the moon.

I gasped, finally seeing it in all its glory—but something went wrong.

One second, I was on the bench beside Luna.

The next, I was waking up in my bedroom.

I sat up, dazed, looking around in confusion.

What the hell happened?

I remembered the moon... and then a sharp pain in my head... and then darkness.

Just as I tried to piece things together, the door opened. Dad stepped in, looking relieved.

He rushed over and hugged me tightly.

"Dad? What happened?"

He pulled back, looked me in the eyes, and said,

"Son... we need to talk."
