My Manor

Chapter 314: Chapter 312: Inexplicable Murder

The store offers a wide variety of items. You can add beef patties, fried chicken strips, fried meat slices, turkey slices, hot dogs, and stewed pork that can be crushed and included. In addition, there are plenty of vegetarian options such as lettuce, tomatoes, celery, corn kernels, cabbage, onions, and even fried potato strips scattered all over.

As for the price, one meat and two vegetables cost two dollars. Each additional meat is one dollar, and you get a vegetable dish for free.

The portions are generous, and there's plenty of food, which makes it feel like a great deal.

Afra and the others opted for the basic package: one beef patty and one turkey slice. They didn't want fried foods early in the morning, so their chosen vegetables were tomatoes and lettuce. However, Jiang Hai was in the mood for something more indulgent. He wanted beef patties, turkey slices, fried meat slices, fried chicken strips, hot dogs, and for the vegetables, he chose lettuce, tomatoes, and potato strips.

Jiang Hai ordered six dollars' worth of pancakes and asked for two more. The stall owner was thrilled.

Once the orders were ready, they waited for the male host to spread the pancakes.

Out of the twenty-four pancakes, Jiang Hai's two cost twelve dollars, while the others cost only two dollars each, totaling forty-four dollars. Altogether, the bill was sixty-six dollars. Jiang Hai handed over a hundred-dollar bill, opting not to wait for change. Today, he was feeling generous. With this extra tip, the stall owner worked even harder and spread bigger, thicker pancakes for Jiang Hai and his friends. The female stall owner quickly added more meat to the already-prepared portions. These pancakes, which had already been spread, were wrapped as originally planned. After adding the meat and vegetables, they drizzled the sauces on top.

The sauces at this stall were truly impressive. There were six varieties, all of which were salsa, the most famous sauce in Mexico and a unique offering in this world.

The red sauce, the usual hot sauce, was made from tomatoes, red peppers, onions, garlic, and cilantro, with a nice balance of sour and spicy flavors.

The raw sauce, made from tomatoes, lime juice, red peppers, onions, and cilantro, was even more sour than the red sauce.

The green sauce, made from special Mexican green tomatoes and peppers, had a fragrant taste, though it wasn't as spicy.

In addition, there were guacamole, burrito sauce, and mango salsa.

For anyone who enjoyed this kind of sauce, there was a flavor to suit every preference.

For example, Jiang Hai favored the burrito sauce and red sauce because they were spicier, while the others all chose burrito sauce.

Soon, all twenty-two pancakes were wrapped, and it was Jiang Hai's turn to receive his two extra-large ones. When the female stall owner finished preparing his burrito, Afra was a little surprised. She really gave Jiang Hai special treatment. Their pancakes already had twice the amount of meat, but Jiang Hai's still looked at least three times bigger than theirs. They couldn't help but be pleased.

Jiang Hai grabbed his pancake and took a big bite. Instantly, the combination of sauce, meat, and vegetables exploded in his mouth, and the crispy outer layer made his eyes narrow with satisfaction.

If there's one thing that hasn't changed about Jiang Hai since a year ago, aside from his face, it's probably his love for food.

He really enjoys eating, especially delicious things. To some upper-class people, this might just be food for the street poor, but to Jiang Hai, it's absolutely delicious.

"Let's go," Afra said with a laugh as she saw Jiang Hai enjoying his meal, carrying the remaining food and waving at him. By this time, Moses Adams and the others had already left. They drove two cars—Jiang Hai's commercial vehicle and a car rented by Moses Adams himself.

The scene was rather unusual: one side of the parking lot was nearly packed, while the other side had just one car.

As the car pulled up, Afra prepared to head back to the vehicle and hand out the food.

Jiang Hai nodded, still eating, and made his way to the commercial car.

But just as he was leaving the stall and heading toward the vehicle, a strange sensation made his eyebrows twitch, and he immediately became alert. Suddenly, the sound of an engine revving filled the air, and a car sped across the crossroad directly in front of him. As it neared, it didn't slow down—in fact, it accelerated. Alarm bells rang in Jiang Hai's head. He quickly stepped forward and pushed Afra, who was still in front of him, toward his commercial vehicle. His strength was so great that Afra was almost thrown into the car, her pancakes scattering on the floor. The force propelled her into the commercial vehicle she had opened to retrieve the food.

Everyone froze for a moment, unsure why Jiang Hai had suddenly pushed Afra. Afra herself was surprised. As she turned to look back, she saw the car speeding toward Jiang Hai. The girls gasped in shock. If this car hit an ordinary person, it would likely be fatal, but Jiang Hai was no ordinary person. As the car came within about ten meters of him without showing any signs of slowing down, Jiang Hai's heart raced. He cursed inwardly: Damn it. The car was closing in fast—less than a second, and it would be beside him.

But Jiang Hai didn't accept his fate. He jumped to the ground and rolled over like a lazy donkey, narrowly avoiding the car. The car, now without hitting him, swerved violently and crashed into a stone by the roadside. The impact jolted the people inside.

However, it was clear these people were prepared. As the car came to a halt, four figures wearing helmets jumped out. Despite the crash, they seemed unfazed—likely only the driver was affected. The four of them quickly pulled out pistols from behind their backs, and Jiang Hai's heart raced with alarm.

"Close the door!" Jiang Hai shouted at the startled Afra and the others. Then, he dodged and ran. Afra and the others, accustomed to dealing with tough situations, quickly slammed the door shut, and Jiang Hai sprinted toward Moses Adams' Mercedes car behind the commercial vehicle.

Mercedes Adams reacted swiftly. When he saw the situation, he immediately hid in the driver's seat. As Jiang Hai approached, Mercedes opened the passenger side door, allowing Jiang Hai to slip inside.

Just as Jiang Hai got into the car, the sound of gunfire erupted outside. The four gunmen, wearing helmets, unleashed a barrage of bullets at the car. Despite the hail of bullets, the rented Cadillac CTS—though not bulletproof—held up decently. While it wasn't impervious to the gunfire, it was sturdy enough to withstand the pistols' impact.

"Boss, who did you piss off this time?" Moses Adams asked, holding his head in confusion. His fear was clear; he had never experienced an attack like this before.

"How would I know? Could they be from the auction house? Maybe they don't want me taking the money?" Jiang Hai, also crouched with his head covered, yelled in frustration. He couldn't understand where these attackers had come from. The only connection he could think of was the auction house.

"It's unlikely," Moses Adams replied, though unsure. Although Phillips wasn't the biggest auction house and had a history of shady dealings, it was still the third-largest in the world. They had to maintain their reputation. If this matter became public, it wouldn't be good for their business.

"Then why hasn't anyone come to help yet?" Jiang Hai muttered, a bit of contempt in his voice. Just then, over twenty security guards rushed out from the auction house in the distance.

Jiang Hai had been too quick to judge. Although Phillips wasn't thrilled about Jiang Hai taking the money, they were businessmen, not criminals. Robbing him and ruining their reputation wasn't worth it. The reason for the delay was that they had to report the situation first.

The security personnel had been stationed there specifically for such a scenario, especially since the auction house was storing valuable items like 300 million dollars' worth of jewelry and 1 billion dollars in armor. If a scheme to steal these items was in play, the loss would fall on them.

But Jiang Hai was a client, and they couldn't afford to let him get attacked. Within a minute, the security guards were mobilized and heading to the scene.

Seeing the reinforcements, the four attackers panicked. To be continued.
