My Mage System (BL)

Chapter 738: *I did collapse!*

Even though the scenery was extremely beautiful, Zak couldn't take his eyes off Esmee. For him, there was nothing more beautiful than her. He then kissed the hand he was still holding, and Esmee caressed his cheek with her other hand.

"How have you been doing, Zak?" Esmee finally asked him, as Zak seemed a little lost in his thoughts.

Zak smiled at her and said proudly, "I have worked hard these past few days. Soon I will become a Priest, and I will finally be strong enough to protect you."

He added, "Thanks to Colin, my innate fighting skills have developed tremendously, and I learned a few new powerful spells. This training is really the best I've had so far."

Esmee smiled back at him but still said, "I know that you want to prove yourself, but remember that even if you become a Priest, you still have the choice to fight or not in this war. You are just 18 years old; nobody will force you, and no one will say anything if you choose to withdraw."

Zak nodded, saying, "I know; Miguel and Elias explained everything to us. And even if they are in great need of powerful Mages, they won't force us to fight. We have the choice until the very end to go or not."

Esmee sighed, looking at the lake and the flowers surrounding it. She said to him, "I guess that I don't need to ask you what you've chosen… Of course, you will go fight, right?"

Zak then did something he had never dared to do before. He embraced Esmee from behind, encircling her waist with his arms and resting his head on her shoulder so that his cheek touched hers.

He said to her, smiling, "My Goddess, it is my duty to go fight against those Ancient Gods and Titans. Back then, 10,000 years ago, it was the same. How could we just watch and do nothing?"

Esmee then tightened her grip on Zak's hands and asked him, her heart beating wildly, "Do you remember? Zak, what happened?"

Zak suddenly kissed her cheek. It surprised her so much that she forgot to breathe. Then his lips moved down, and he kissed the crook of her neck and then her shoulder before whispering close to her ear, "I do! I do remember, my love."

Esmee then turned her head to look at him, shocked, and he explained to her, "I met a lot of Warrior Spirits from the past. It triggered my memories. At first, it was as always; I could only see flashes of my past life. I was seeing them in different places with different outfits. When I grew curious, they didn't hide anything from me. It was quite taboo in our home world; no one responded to my questions, and you too were always saying that when the time came, I would understand."

Esmee couldn't help but ask, "Do you resent me for having hidden the truth from you?"

Zak smiled and said, "Of course not. But I'm glad that the Warrior Spirits are as straightforward as always. At least my memories were triggered by the stories they told me."

He added, "After I leveled up in the purple dungeons, as I grew stronger, it was as you told me; I could remember more and more of my past life. And since I came to this world, when my earth element mastery reached level 8, I finally recovered all my memories from my past life."

Esmee then couldn't help but worry and said to him, "It's way too early for you to absorb all of these memories. How did you manage to absorb them without collapsing?"

Zak laughed heartily and said, "I did collapse!"

Esmee frowned and scolded him, "Do you think it's funny? Couldn't you wait for your memories to appear naturally when the time would have been right and when you would have been more powerful to absorb them?"

Zak smiled and tightened his embrace, kissing her on the lips for the first time. Without the memories he had recovered, he would never have had the courage to kiss her. Even in his dreams, he had never dared to dream about it.

Her lips were as warm and soft as he remembered. He kissed her again and again until they were both out of breath. He then said to reassure her, "Do not worry, darling. When I felt that I couldn't absorb all these memories, I called out to Colin. He helped me by giving me a remedy against mental fatigue, and then, thanks to the knowledge of the Priest, he helped me absorb them bit by bit. Fortunately, we were inside Miguel's special training dimension, so the time we spent doing it wasn't much, and it didn't hinder my training."

He then added, "Since I recovered my memories, I can finally master my innate fighting skills that I learned from my past life. Moreover, thanks to Colin's training, I have improved a lot. I can't wait to become a true Priest and test my new abilities."

Esmee sighed helplessly, even though she was really happy that Zak could finally remember their love. "Since you have recovered your memories, I won't stop you from participating in this War, Zak... but this time I will be joining the battlefield with the other Gods who side with Elias and Miguel."

Zak nodded, saying to her, "I will protect you, I promise."

He added, looking straight into her eyes, "Esmee, my love, this time it will be different. As I become a Priest, I will be able to stay by your side forever... Are you sure this is really what you want? I never thought my soul would be reincarnated into a Mage's body, but I'm glad, as it has given us a chance to have a future together."

Esmee smiled before saying to him, "Of course, it is what I want. Besides, when you become a Priest, we will finally be able to have children together."
