My Lost Omega [BL]

Chapter 9: Sloppy

Once again, the moment Axel stepped into the office, all the loud chatter quickly turned into hushed whispers. Except that perhaps a bit livelier than the day prior. At this rate, it shouldn't take long before all the employees adjusted to Axel's presence…

Whether that was a good thing or not though, only time would tell.

Axel walked over to his desk, and put his coffee and the box with the tarts down. There was already a pile of reports waiting for him…

A small pile. Way too small for it to contain the reports from everyone in the team.

Sipping on his coffee, Axel flipped through it. And sure enough, it wasn't even half of what he should have received. He lifted his gaze, sweeping his eyes through the office…

Should he say something? It was still early morning, they had all just gotten to work. And the day before, he said 'by tomorrow'… But that didn't necessarily mean 'by tomorrow morning'. Perhaps it would be best to wait a bit longer then, maybe remind everyone about the reports after the lunch break, if he still hasn't received them all by then. After all, while he couldn't allow the team members to walk all over him, he didn't want to come off as overbearing either.

Throughout the morning, the workers stopped by his desk every now and then, dropping their reports. However, even as Axel returned from his break, there were still three missing…

Holding back a sigh, he double-checked. Triple-checked. But, the result remained the same.

…Should he wait a bit longer?

No, it wasn't a good idea. If he was so lenient from the start, then his team members might start pushing further.

So, he stood up, turning to the whole office. "I would like to remind everyone that you were supposed to hand over your reports today. Please make sure to get it done as soon as possible, so I can have enough time to go through them. Thank you."

That was all he said. He didn't want to call out names, so as not to embarrass the few tardy ones…

"Sigh."

Axel lifted his eyes again.

Was it a sigh he had heard? An unnaturally loud, a bit theatrical even?

He tensed up, nervously scanning the office… But soon, he was distracted by the sound coming from his computer.

Ping!

He received a new e-mail… With a report. And then another one. And, a few minutes later, the third, that is the last missing one.

So they didn't even bother printing them… But then again, Axel hadn't specified HOW he wanted them to hand over the reports, so he couldn't really complain, now could he?

At least they were all finally here, and Axel could go through them all, working on a plan of how to manage the workflow from now on.

But, he was bound for yet another disappointment. The reports were… sloppy, to put it nicely. Not all of them, but a few were clearly done without much care, just some basic information, haphazardly slapped together. Just so that they could submit it and not be bothered by Axel anymore.

Especially the Alphas. There were three Alphas in Axel's team, excluding him, and out of them, only Wynn wrote his report properly.

Did they think that Axel wouldn't be able to tell they didn't do a good job? Because he was straight out of college? But, although Axel had no work experience, he pretty much grew up in a corporate environment. Raised to be a future CEO. He had already seen more reports than most of them would ever do in their entire lives…

And on top of that, he was the president of a club back in college! He had worked with his classmates on various endeavors, such as charity and fund raising events. And the reports they all wrote back then were better than those he received now, in this so-called professional environment!

…He should really speak up now, shouldn't he? He had to draw a line somewhere, show them that he wouldn't accept such sloppiness. Because if he did, it would end up affecting the whole team, dragging them all down. So, a brief reminder that everyone needed to maintain a high standard in their work was needed.

But… Maybe on Friday. Yeah, that seemed the best. They would have a meeting then, so it would be a great opportunity to speak to everyone without disrupting their work…

Not to mention, it would give him time to think how exactly he wanted to address the issue.

'Friday it is then.'

Axel nodded lightly to himself as he made his decision. He was still in a sour mood, disappointed by the treatment he received, but he tried to dismiss his feelings. It was too early to get discouraged. In a way, wasn't it nice actually? That the team didn't respect him purely because he was an Alpha and from the Chandler family? This way, once he finally got their respect, he would be sure it was truly earned, with his own genuine efforts.

Reassuring himself this way, Axel put the reports aside, and moved on to the other tasks. There were a ton of documents he had to go through, and he didn't want to bring any work home. That was the time that was supposed to be dedicated for Ollie, after all!

It wasn't a busy day. Not really. However, overwhelmed by it all, when the clock finally struck 5 PM and it was time for Axel to head home, he was truly tired. Exhausted even. Mainly by his overthinking and overanalysing everything, but tired nevertheless.

So tired, that as he got into the car, he hadn't even noticed a fairly short person dressed all in black with a helmet over his head, observing Axel from a bit further down the street. And as Axel's driver started the car, heading toward the kindergarten, the black-clad man jumped onto his motorcycle, trailing after him.
