Chapter 166: Midnight Drama (E)
At around 2 AM, everyone regrouped once again.
"Fuck I've only got 15 and there's only two hours left!" Specy said as fear started taking over him.
"I've only caught 14 bro! Do you think that old man will really kill us both if we fail?" Shadow asked in anxiety.
Ice's figure soon joined them, and when they saw the number of scorpions in her container, they couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie.
Ice's expression also wasn't good as she said, "How are we going to finish this task within time…"
"We can't…" Shadow smacked his face in frustration and, after a thought, said in seriousness, "That makes the three of us. Zed will most probably have the same results, so let's start making a plan."
"Plan?" Specy asked.
"Yes, let's kill Brown. It's the four vs one. We'll definitely be able to kill him and escape. Fuck this academy and fuck this assassin title. The most important thing is our lives don't you all agree?" Shadow looked at the other two for support.
Specy showed a little hesitation in his face, but finally decided to bite the bullet and said, "Yes, let's do it!"
"Count me in," Ice declared. She, too, had no intention of dying here.
While this was happening, Zed's figure finally approached them. He had forgotten about the regrouping at 2 AM and was only reminded about it when he saw three headlamps gathered together in the night.
"What are you guys discussing?" Jin asked when he heard their voices.
"We are planning to kill-" Shadow was about to reveal the plan to Jin when his gaze suddenly fell upon the plastic container he was carrying.
"What the fuck!" He exclaimed as he saw his container, which was brimming with scorpions.
There were more than 40 scorpions in his container alone!
"You?! How were you able to catch so many scorpions in that little period?" Specy exclaimed with an incredulous expression.
Ice's gaze was also full of questions.
Hearing them, Jin's gaze soon fell on their containers, and everything started to make sense.
With a weird expression on his face, he looked at the three of them and asked, "You guys weren't planning to kill Brown, were you?"
"Well…" Shadow scratched his head like a mischievous kid and said, "We were planning to, since he would kill us all as we don't have 20 scorpions left."
Jin shook his head at their foolishness. Even he wasn't confident in killing Brown after witnessing his fast movements the day before.
Jin placed down his container and said to them, "Kill that stupid thought and take the required scorpions from my container. I've got more than enough."
"Haha, I knew you would say it, love you bro," Shadow was the first to accept his proposal and shamelessly collected the required number of scorpions from Jin's container.
Specy and Ice did the same, and with that, everyone now had a minimum of twenty scorpions in their container.
"Let's go back since we all have enough now," Jin suggested.
"Aye aye, captain," Shadow saluted exaggeratedly.
An amused smirk formed on Jin's face, seeing him like that.
He looked at the other two, who nodded at him and started walking.
"How did you even manage to catch so many? Is there a trick to it?" Specy asked curiously while they were making their way back.
"If an opportunity comes, I'll teach you all later," Jin said. Explaining everything to them now felt like a chore to him.
"Great!" Specy said with excitement as he wasn't expecting a reply like this.
Shadow and Ice were also very interested in knowing the trick.
Since they were hardly two kilometres away from the Oasis, they soon reached the place and arrived at the mud hut.
At that moment, someone jumped down the mud-hut's roof and said, "You guys completed the mission earlier than I had expected."
Seeing Brown's figure, a chill ran down everyone's spine except for Jin. The reason was the sniper rifle, which was hanging by his shoulder.
'So he had been observing us all the time,' They all thought in unison.
Brown didn't care about what they were thinking and just added, "Alright, follow me inside then."
The four of them were soon guided to the underground space.
"Place your containers on that table and go back to your shelter," Brown said.
Everyone did as they were instructed and soon walked back to their shelters outside.
"Fuck, I almost got everyone killed today," Shadow muttered as he still vividly remembered the sniper rifle fitted with a night vision scope which Brown was carrying with him the whole time.
The others didn't blame him. If not for Jin, they too would have agreed with the proposal.
"If not for you, we would all be dead. We owe you our lives," Specy patted Jin on his back in gratefulness.
Shadow and Ice were younger than Specy and a bit immature on the emotional front, so they felt a bit embarrassed to openly thank Jin like Specy did, but their gaze carried hints of gratitude.
Shadow yawned the next moment and changed the topic, "Alright, everyone, I'm tired as hell, so see you all tomorrow."
Like this, everyone soon went to their shelters and called it a night.
The next morning, Jin woke up a bit early. He pushed his tired body up and walked towards the pond to freshen up.
However, he soon stopped in his tracks. There was someone there.
Ice was standing near the pond and wiping her hair with a towel. Seeing this, Jin decided to wait on the side.
A few moments later, Ice picked up a small locket from a stone and stared at it lovingly.
This was the first time Jin had noticed so much emotion on that cold face of hers and his brows raised a little in surprise.
Oblivious to the fact that Jin was observing her, Ice gently caressed the locket with her fingers before wearing it around her neck.
The next moment, she covered it up with her top and then walked back to the shelter. Her usual cold countenance returned.
With a thoughtful expression Jin got out of his hiding spot and stared at Ice's direction for a few seconds before busying himself.
