My Future Refreshes Weekly

Ch. 15

Chapter 15: Leaving Some Privacy for Yourself

“You actually peeked at my messages, and even used my account to add friends!”

Jiang He gripped his phone, his face flushing red.

It was true he didn’t have many friends, and usually no one looked for him to chat.

But since White Crane could check his chat history, naturally, he could also see his browsing history—this was something Jiang He absolutely could not accept.

Some of that browsing history… he’d rather die than let others know about it!

“They aren’t your messages, they’re my messages.” White Crane looked utterly innocent: “I am your future self. I know everything about you, so how could you call it peeking?”

“You…” Jiang He was at a loss for words.

That actually made sense. According to the effect of 【Ferryman of Time】, the timeline the future Heroic Spirit had experienced was divided by the “moment of awakening.”

At least up until now, everything Jiang He had gone through, White Crane had also experienced.

In front of his “future self,” everything about him was transparent.

Even so, it was still unbearably embarrassing!

Could his future self at least have some sense of boundaries? Leave his present self a little privacy!

Jiang He took a deep breath: “From now on, you’re not allowed to use my phone anymore!”

White Crane: “Then how am I supposed to buy things?”

Jiang He: “I’ll withdraw some cash for you!”

White Crane shrugged, and only then did Jiang He pick up his phone and check his messages.

First was a message from Teacher Wei. Just as White Crane had said, it told him that the principal would hold the 【Fire Controller】 transfer ritual for him today, and that he needed to arrive at school before nine.

Attached was also a class schedule.

On the schedule, aside from a few basic cultural courses, it was packed full with Transcendent classes, including ability application and profession advancement.

However, the detailed course content, as well as which teacher would teach, had not been fully decided, since there were multiple options. Jiang He would need to make the choices himself.

He wasn’t in a hurry to pick classes. Closing the schedule, he opened the messages from Chi Zhilei.

The record showed that White Crane had approved her friend request last night around seven. After that, there had been no replies, only Chi Zhilei sending casual chat topics and sharing links.

The last message asked what time Jiang He would leave, so they could go to school together.

Seeing that White Crane hadn’t sent any reckless replies, Jiang He let out a sigh of relief.

But looking at Chi Zhilei’s long string of messages, he felt both a headache and some embarrassment… He had accepted the friend request, but hadn’t replied at all—wasn’t that a little rude?

Hesitating for a moment, he sent a message.

【Jiang He: Seven o’clock.】

【Chi Zhilei: Got it (cute sticker)】

Jiang He set the phone down and sighed.

He really wasn’t good at dealing with people who were too enthusiastic.

But then again…

White Crane had said he didn’t want to interfere with Jiang He’s “relationships,” yet he had suddenly gone ahead and added Chi Zhilei as a friend. His actions and words clearly contradicted each other.

Did that mean Chi Zhilei wasn’t Jiang He’s future wife?

“Could it be he’s afraid I’d get ‘captured’ by Chi Zhilei, so he used this roundabout way to warn me?”

“Not wanting to interfere, yet trying to eliminate options for me… what a contradiction.”

After a night’s rest, Jiang He’s clever mind had recovered its sharpness. Thinking it through, he found it rather amusing.

But he didn’t argue with White Crane—compared to who his future wife might be, today’s battle was the real priority.

White Crane had said that no matter what profession Jiang He chose, the Arc Light organization would attack the school during today’s transfer ritual. It was a “certain” event.

With his strong Transcendent memory, Jiang He still recalled the details from yesterday.

Now, there was just one last preparation left.

Profession skill allocation.

His 【Rumor Bearer】 profession had risen to lv9, with three unassigned skill points.

They could be used to unlock combat skills, quickly boosting Jiang He’s fighting strength.

At this moment, he pulled up the Rumor Bearer skill tree—

The profession skill tree did not simply list all skills for him to pick freely. Instead, each path had several starting skills.

Only by unlocking these starting skills as prerequisites could one obtain and unlock the subsequent advancement skills.

Currently, there were six available skills.

On the Rumor path:

【Babble lv6…】

【Voice of Thunder — Enhances Word-Spirit power with amplified volume. The louder the voice, the stronger the effect.】

【Rapid Tongue — Increases speech speed, allowing faster release of Word-Spirits.】

On the Sound Transmission path:

【Echo — Each time a Spell Word is obtained, slightly increases mental energy.】

【Fewer Words — Selects a Spell Word, removes one syllable, slightly weakening its effect.】

【Hidden Notes — Selects a Spell Word, adds one syllable, slightly strengthening its effect.】

First, just like the Babble skill Jiang He had already unlocked.

Growth-type skills had no subsequent advancements; they existed independently.

Second, the other two skills on each path represented two distinct routes.

【Faster Casting】 and 【Power Enhancement】.

Jiang He looked at the two routes, hesitating for a while.

They seemed to represent only different tendencies—either way, both could improve his combat ability.

At this time, White Crane gave his advice.

“Choose the Spell Word enhancement route—low-level Transcendent battles aren’t so demanding on time, but mental energy is limited, and there are restrictions on how often Word-Spirits can be used.”

“Faster casting will only speed up how quickly your energy gets drained.”

Jiang He found that reasonable, so he unlocked Voice of Thunder lv1.

Once he obtained the starting skill, the next advancement appeared.

【Weight of Words — Active skill. After activation, the next Word-Spirit gains extra mental impact.】

This was a targeted enhancement for spirit-based Word-Spirits, with very strong combat effects.

Even if it couldn’t control the opponent’s mind, just interfering with their actions would be enough to secure results.

Jiang He unlocked it without hesitation.

Another advancement skill emerged.

【Final Word — Limited skill. Forces a surge of mental energy, causing the next Word-Spirit to have multiplied effects. Afterwards, all Word-Spirits (including Spell Words and Sound Words) cannot be used for a period of time.】

Clearly a burst-type skill. Though the side effects were severe, it truly had the power to “finalize” a situation.

Jiang He unlocked it as well, and another advancement appeared.

【Hidden Curse — Active skill. Stores the next Word-Spirit at a location. When any target passes by, it detonates, dealing additional damage.】

Another excellent skill.

It even transformed the Word-Spirit’s form, from instant effect to delayed trap—extremely sinister and powerful.

However, Jiang He had already used up his three skill points. He would have to wait for his next profession level-up to learn this skill.

In addition, aside from the Spell Word enhancement path, the other three routes were also extremely tempting, each capable of greatly improving his strength.

“Not enough skill points!”

“No wonder Teacher Wei was so eager to level up…”

Having used up his points, Jiang He was now fully prepared.

The rest depended on the actual battle.

After washing up and changing clothes, he left home.

At the community gate, he saw the ponytailed girl with a schoolbag slung over her shoulder, waving at him from the roadside.

“Good morning, Jiang He!”

Seeing the girl’s smile in the morning sunlight, Jiang He’s heartbeat quickened—an eighteen-year-old boy who had been single his whole life had never experienced such a scene.

But remembering White Crane’s reminder, his mood cooled slightly.

She most likely wasn’t his future wife.

“Seriously, that guy White Crane…”

Jiang He grumbled inwardly, then suddenly thought of a good idea.

Walking toward Chi Zhilei, he said: “Chi, have you had breakfast yet?”

“Not yet.” Chi Zhilei tilted her head: “Is there anything good to eat around here?”

“Hand-washed gluten in hot pepper soup, or Daliang soup dumplings.”

“Deal!”

Jiang He cast a sidelong glance at White Crane, the corners of his mouth lifting.

Mess with my phone, huh?

This morning, I’ll let you watch but not eat!
