Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Not Ready to Land on the Moon

Su Yu's original plan was to take Yui Yuigahama to the Service Club and introduce her to Yukino Yukinoshita.

This way, he could achieve two goals at once:

Yui Yuigahama would be occupied by Yukino.Yukino would gradually get to know Yui and eventually become friends with her.

However, with Yumiko Miura needing Yui's company, today was no longer an option.

Su Yu glanced at the three girls.

Yumiko Miura's emotions had stabilized quite a bit, though her gaze still held a tinge of sadness whenever she looked at Hayama Hayato.

Meanwhile, Yui Yuigahama and Hina Ebina were chatting about a TV show they had watched the previous night, trying to divert Yumiko's attention.

Checking the time, Su Yu noted that it was just the beginning of lunch break.

Right about now, Yukino should be on her way to the Service Club.

Standing up, he walked over to stand behind Yumiko.

"Yui, I'm fine now. You can go have lunch with Su Yu-kun," Yumiko said softly.

Despite her own sadness, she still cared about her friend's well-being.

Hearing this, Yui looked toward Su Yu.

"Miura-san, I didn't come to ask Yui to lunch. Actually, I wanted to invite you all over for a barbecue this afternoon. What do you think?" Su Yu offered.

"Huh?" Yumiko blinked in surprise.

"Su Yu-kun knows how to grill meat?" Hina Ebina asked with curiosity.

"A little. It's a different style from the barbecue you're used to—it's from my hometown," Su Yu explained briefly.

"Yumiko, what do you think? Personally, I love barbecue," Hina Ebina said with a smile, leaving the decision up to Yumiko.

"We're just invited as extras. Yui is the real guest of honor here," Yumiko smiled knowingly at Yui.

Yui's face flushed red, and she lowered her head.

"Yui, please? It's been ages since I last had barbecue," Hina teased playfully.

"I-I want to eat barbecue too…" Yui mumbled, sneaking a glance at Su Yu as she spoke.

"Then it's settled," Su Yu said with a smile before leaving the classroom.

Watching his retreating figure, Yui felt a growing anticipation for his cooking.

When she turned back, she was met with her friends' amused smiles, making her blush even more.

"Yui, how far did your date progress yesterday?" Hina lowered her voice mischievously.

Yumiko, now curious, turned her gaze to Yui as well.

"We… we just watched a movie! Nothing else happened," Yui replied, her face burning.

"'Nothing else'? Yui, what exactly do you mean by 'other things'?" Hina adjusted her glasses, looking intrigued.

"Hina…" Yui's face grew even hotter.

"Did Su Yu-kun…?" Hina leaned in and whispered something in Yui's ear.

Hearing it, Yui was too embarrassed to respond.

"So, nothing happened yet? I can't believe someone could actually resist Yui…"

"Hina!"

Yui quickly cut her off.

Yumiko simply smiled as she watched her two friends bicker.

On the Way to the Service Club

Su Yu ran into someone he expected to see.

Hayama Hayato was waiting for him in the quiet hallway.

Su Yu glanced at him but chose to ignore him.

"I said something really harsh to Yumiko," Hayama finally spoke.

"Hayama, I think you're a good person—at least you didn't take things too far or continue deceiving Miura-san," Su Yu stopped and replied.

"I'm not a good person. I used her. I…"

"I don't have time to listen to your explanations. I already know what I need to do. Like I told you before, Hayama—you're too close to the sun, but you'll never be able to touch it," Su Yu cut him off, preparing to leave.

"Then can you touch the moon?" Hayama asked, looking directly at Su Yu.

"I'm not ready to land on the moon yet," Su Yu replied without turning back.

Hayama watched him walk away.

He had a feeling that Su Yu might be the one who could reach her, the one who could break through her walls.

Su Yu could do what he could not.

In Front of the Service Club Room

Su Yu knocked on the door.

"Come in." Yukino Yukinoshita's voice came from inside.

Opening the door, he found her sitting by the window.

"You're alone?" Yukino asked, glancing at him.

"There was an unexpected situation. She won't be coming today," Su Yu replied as he took his usual seat.

"What kind of situation?" Yukino asked, curiosity flickering in her eyes.

"Hayama said something to Miura that really hurt her," Su Yu explained simply.

"I see. That makes sense." Yukino nodded.

"You this afternoon…"

Su Yu looked at her.

She returned his gaze with a puzzled expression.

"Never mind, forget it." Su Yu hesitated for a moment before lowering his head and taking out a notebook.

"You wanted to invite me?" Yukino saw through him immediately.

"I invited them. It's a small barbecue gathering."

"You assumed I would refuse, so you didn't even bother asking?"

Su Yu looked up at her.

"I didn't think you'd accept."

"You didn't even invite me, so how can you be so sure I wouldn't accept?" Yukino stared at him.

"Because you're a Yukinoshita…"

"That has nothing to do with it," she cut him off coldly.

"…Alright, my mistake. Yukinoshita-san, may I invite you to the barbecue gathering? If you refuse, I might not have the courage to invite you to anything ever again," Su Yu said after a brief silence.

"Su Yu-kun, you're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" Yukino suddenly seemed to realize something.

"Doing what on purpose?" Su Yu looked at her, confused.

"You stopped mid-sentence earlier, making me guess what you wanted to say. Then you provoked me. And now, you're using words that make it hard for me to refuse. Was this all intentional?" Yukino's sharp gaze bore into him.

Su Yu met her stare without saying a word.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

Yukino finally broke eye contact, unable to hold his gaze any longer.

It felt like he had seen through her.

"So, your answer is a refusal?" Su Yu asked.

"I… I accept your invitation." Yukino hesitated for a moment before responding.

Hearing her answer, Su Yu nodded and said nothing more, returning his attention to his notebook.

As he quietly read and ate his lunch, Yukino hesitated for several minutes before stealing a glance at him.

Was her suspicion correct?

If it was, then how did Su Yu know that this kind of approach would work on her?

And if it wasn't… then how could he maintain such an unwavering gaze while looking at her?

Most men became uncomfortable or averted their eyes when she stared at them.

But Su Yu…
