Chapter 161: Chapter 159 Release of the Souls.
Karna watched as the souls wailed in pain. His current form might have the ability to communicate with them, but he wasn't taking any chances experimenting right now, as the people outside were waiting for him to finish the battle soon. Brain had put the entirety of Nirvana on autopilot with the target set to Cait Shelter guild a few dozen kilometres nearby, as he knew the last people who knew about resealing Nirvana were the members of Cait Shelter, rumoured to be descendants of the Nirvits—the creators of Nirvana. According to the official records in the council that is.
Plus, he needed to complete the mission of stopping Nirvana by punching it, and with the calculations he had already done in his head, he knew he was going to need a hell of a lot of stamina for it. So, he was going to finish this fight immediately.
He felt the slits in the corners of his mouth open slightly. He decided to leave this to his instincts for now.
As he did, he felt the death element inside him awaken, as if sensing something that attracted its existence. His mouth opened to unimaginable proportions as he began absorbing the souls in a highly ravenous manner. He suddenly felt as if immense energy was flowing into him, but at the same time, he felt as if he was losing control of himself.
But immediately, he realized he was losing control. He tried to stop the feeding, but his mouth refused to close as he kept feeding on the trapped souls.
'No, I want to save them, not destroy,' Karna screamed in his mind, but he was unable to stop as the last soul vanished into him.
And as soon as the last soul vanished, cracking sounds began to echo all around him as the dimension of Genesis Zero suddenly collapsed.
"How… how is this possible?" Zero gasped in shock. But Karna did not let the opportunity slip as he immediately formed a shadow spear and pierced him straight through.
"Goodbye, Zero," Karna muttered as he watched the death element spread across the entirety of Zero's body, reducing him to ashes.
Karna took a deep breath as he looked at what he had just done.
He had devoured the souls of almost a million people. Yes, the souls inside Zero's dimension reached that number due to the deaths he had caused while conducting experiments in the facility that stole Ultear from Ur all those years ago. Brain's involvement in the creation of the R-System Tower—where an unaccountable number of people were sacrificed—also played a part in this.
As Karna contemplated it, he suddenly started feeling a weird sensation in his stomach.
'What the hell?'
He thought. But suddenly, he kneeled down as the discomfort increased sharply. He felt like vomiting.
"Wait… burp."
And he did—but instead of food, he began vomiting glowing globes of uniform size.
[New power recognized: Soul Purification]
The system's voice came at the same time. Karna immediately looked at the details while continuing to vomit more and more glowing orbs.
[Soul Purification: The ability to feed on souls, purify any corruption within them while absorbing the energy to power the Death Demon Slayer Form. The purified souls are then expelled from the body, ready for their next reincarnation.]
Karna sighed internally as he read the description.
'Damn, it's a good thing it works like this. The souls won't be harmed in any way. But this still feels really weird.'
He thought as he continued vomiting without any break.
Half an hour later.
Karna was panting after throwing up nearly a million souls. But when he turned around, he saw Cana standing there with a highly confused expression.
"Just out of curiosity—this isn't going to become a norm, right? And please tell me that's the only hole you use to spit out sparklers."
"Haha, well don't worry. I can control it, and it won't happen again for some time—at least I hope so," Karna replied with an awkward laugh.
Cana just sighed at his response and looked at the shining lights drifting upward and disappearing one by one.
"If I had no idea that you were vomiting these things out, I would've thought this was romantic." Cana said as she gently pushed one of the glowing orbs moving towards her direction.
Karna had undone his Death Slayer form by then and looked at the souls vanishing into their next life.
"Wanna tell me what they are?" Cana asked.
"Maybe later," Karna replied, thinking it was better to talk about it after the battle was over.
"Did you find what we were looking for?" Karna asked, changing the subject.
Cana nodded and took out a Lacrima.
"I made sure to record all the books containing the main schematics as well as the theories on which the creation of Nirvana was based."
"What about the other thing?"
Cana paused, then nodded.
"Damn it," Karna cursed, as one of the worst-case scenarios had come true. "This is going to complicate a lot of things. This knocks Plan A, B, C, and D right out the window. Until we get more information, we won't be able to move forward."
"That doesn't mean we're giving up on our goal, right?" Cana asked.
Karna grinned in response.
"Nah, I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Plus, what we're trying to accomplish has never been done before."
"It's suicidal," Cana replied in a dry tone.
"Maybe. But what we're trying to accomplish is worth it," Karna said as he stood up to complete the final mission.
Cana groaned as she realized what he was about to do.
"Do you really have to complete that mission?"
"Yeah, I do. And the new information you brought back only gives me more reason to believe I'm doing the right thing by pushing myself like this. Plus, you don't need to worry too much. I already completed my calculations before I finished battling Zero," Karna said as he summoned Incursio and began flying to the outside of Nirvana.
A/N- hope you like it and every 100 powerstone gets extra chapter of Jason.
