Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Is This the Legendary Lap Pillow? And What Just Fell?
"Regarding this event plan, I think it should..."
"Really? I believe... this way would suit your school better."
Right now, Yukino Yukinoshita, the top student of Chiba Municipal Sobu High School, and Utaha Kasumigaoka, the top student of Toyonozaki Academy, were engaged in a fierce, silent war a battle of words with no end in sight.
No matter what event proposal either side raised, the other would immediately pick out the tiniest, almost negligible flaws, magnify them, and use them to argue against the proposal. Neither was willing to back down. After nearly two hours of debate, they had made no progress.
"Ahhh~"
Yoru Moonshadow let out a wide yawn, fighting the waves of sleep creeping up on him. Across from him, Eriri Spencer Sawamura had already succumbed to exhaustion. She had been staring him down at first but was now sleeping soundly with her head on the desk, her soft pink lips twitching slightly, revealing an adorable little fang perhaps she was having a pleasant dream.
It was obvious from the start that Eriri hadn't had enough sleep. Yoru suspected she had been up all night rushing her manuscript, a bad habit she often fell into just before deadlines.
Seriously, how long were these two planning to go on? At this rate, they could keep debating until next year.
He couldn't hold on any longer. The voices of Yukinoshita and Utaha had turned into lullabies in his ears. His eyelids grew heavier, half-closing several times before his vision finally went dark as sleep completely took over.
...
Half-asleep, he rubbed his cheek against the soft "pillow" beneath him. Strange since when did his pillow at home feel this soft, smooth, and comfortable? It was so pleasant that he didn't want to part from it.
Slowly, Yoru opened his drowsy eyes. The lighting was slightly dim, with the warm glow of the sunset filtering in through the window.
His vision gradually cleared. This wasn't his room it looked more like a reception lounge or perhaps a club activity room.
Wait, wasn't this the lounge at Toyonozaki Academy where he and Yukinoshita had been waiting?
He vaguely recalled dozing off while those two were still locked in their endless debate. Now, the room was completely empty.
Suddenly, Yoru's eyes widened. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw what he was resting his head on rounded, soft, and covered in sheer black fabric. Through the faintly translucent material, he could see glimpses of fair skin.
Was this the legendary lap pillow?
But whose lap was it? It couldn't be Eriri her body was too petite. Yukinoshita? Not a chance. She would rather be struck by lightning than offer him a lap pillow.
That only left one person, Utaha Kasumigaoka.
As if sensing he had woken up, her silhouette leaned over him, casting a shadow. Silky strands of hair brushed against his face, and a soft, pleasant fragrance filled his senses. Tilting his gaze upward, he met her beautiful face, framed by elegant black hair and a gentle smile.
"Awake, are you? Yoru-kun~"
Her voice was as soothing as a gentle stream, warm enough to melt through to his heart.
For a moment, Yoru froze, then quickly panicked. Flustered, he scrambled to lift his head from her lap.
Bang thud!
He slipped, hitting his head on the corner of the table.
He quickly stood up, putting a full meter of distance between them.
"I'm fine. Also sorry for causing trouble, Kasumigaoka-senpai. I've wasted your time!"
Clearly, school had long since ended. If he hadn't been asleep, she would've gone home by now. She had stayed just to look after him, so of course, he had to apologize for the inconvenience.
His initial panic quickly gave way to calm, though his gaze remained awkward, avoiding direct eye contact with her.
So awkward!!!
"Then, I'll be going now."
As soon as he finished, Yoru dashed out of the room like a rocket, leaving behind a slightly stunned Utaha.
Moments later, her lips curled into a sly, mischievous smile.
"Eriri, how's it?"
On cue, a small figure popped out from a nearby cabinet, holding a compact video camera.
"Heh heh, look check out this idiot's dumb sleeping face!"
Eriri's twin tails bounced as she proudly showed Utaha the footage a close-up of Yoru's peaceful, content expression as he nuzzled into her lap.
And what about Yukinoshita? She had tried waking him once, but when he didn't budge, she simply left. That made it the perfect chance for these two to pull their little stunt.
"Looks like trash-kun has such an adorable side. Maybe reeling him in will be easier than I thought~"
Utaha's charming smile carried an unmistakable air of mischief. Her wine-red eyes gleamed with a scheming light. She hadn't expected the idiot from that day to be him. Good thing she'd worn large sunglasses at the time, or he would've recognized her.
She'd gone to that town after her book signing to gather material for her next volume.
Eriri pouted.
"That's only because he doesn't know your true nature. If he did, he wouldn't even think of you as a woman~"
If they hadn't known each other for years, Eriri would've wanted to mess with him herself.
For now, the two girls called a temporary truce, joining forces to toy with Yoru together.
...
At the gate of Toyonozaki Academy, Yoru Moonshadow stepped out, clutching his grumbling stomach. He was starving.
Time to find a restaurant nearby and fill up before heading home.
Soon after
Finally full. A few spicy burgers, two servings of fries, a whole teriyaki pizza, and
Hmm?
The ground shook slightly. An earthquake? No big deal this country sat on a seismic belt. Earthquakes were everyday occurrences.
Wait, what?
He was seeing things again. A shadow zipped over his body from the sky. Normally, it wouldn't mean much, but this shadow it looked like a dragon? Must have been an airplane.
He rubbed his temples. Maybe his sense of reality was still muddled from all his isekai experiences.
But then, the shadow appeared again, this time hovering directly overhead. The shape changed rapidly something was falling toward him.
He looked up.
He didn't even have time to see what it was before something completely enveloped him, crashing down on him like he was a human cushion.
What just landed on him?
