Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Gentle Senpai, Utaha Kasumigaoka?
A luxury car, the kind that looked expensive just by sight, came to a stop at the school gate.
"Well then, I have something to do this afternoon, so I won't be picking you two up. Take the train back yourselves."
Before she finished her sentence, the car had already sped off into the distance, leaving the two passengers behind, still coughing from the exhaust fumes.
Not that it mattered. Even if she had nothing else to do, Yoru Moonshadow figured Yukino Yukinoshita would probably refuse to get in Hiratsuka Shizuka's car again. On the way here, she had actually gone drag racing with someone on the road.
Though Yukinoshita kept her usual calm expression, the pale shade on her face completely betrayed her fear.
"A dragon?"
Suddenly, a huge shadow swiftly passed over them, projected from the sky. Yoru Moonshadow was momentarily stunned by the sight.
When he looked up, there was nothing there. Well, technically, there was a plane roaring overhead.
Maybe he was just seeing things. A hallucination. He probably still hadn't fully settled into life in this world yet.
He turned his gaze to the school's name at the gate.
"Toyonozaki."
What a coincidence. He would need to be careful here. A certain wild golden retriever might be lurking nearby.
After entering, they found a girl with a bob cut and a blank expression to guide them. She first took them to report their arrival at the principal's office, then led them to the reception room to wait for their liaison.
"You're acting pretty guilty. Are you afraid of running into someone?" Yukinoshita asked, glancing at Yoru with her usual calm gaze, though it clearly conveyed the message: "What, did you toy with some girl's feelings here and now you're afraid she'll show up with a kitchen knife?"
"Afraid? Hmm"
Just as he was about to retort, a certain nickname came to mind. And then he thought about what Yukinoshita might be afraid of. His expression immediately turned serious.
"There's definitely something to watch out for. There's a dangerous golden retriever rumored to be lurking in this school."
The moment he said that, Yukinoshita's calm expression visibly cracked, and her normally rosy complexion gradually turned pale.
At the same time, Yoru Moonshadow didn't notice the faint sound of the door behind him quietly opening.
"Is it really that dangerous?" Yukinoshita asked, her voice steady but with a barely noticeable tremble.
"Dangerous? You saw the state I was in when I went home that day, right? That was all thanks to that ferocious golden retriever."
Yoru Moonshadow spoke as if he still had lingering trauma, which only made Yukinoshita more anxious. A few beads of cold sweat even appeared on her otherwise flawless skin.
He continued, his expression laced with dread.
"I heard there's already been a victim. When they were found, there was barely anything left but bones. Their internal organs had been completely devoured"
The more he spoke, the more he got into it. His body trembled as if he were reliving the horror. Yukinoshita's slender legs also began to shake slightly. And just as he reached this part
"Bang!"
The door was suddenly slammed open, and a petite figure launched herself at Yoru Moonshadow before he could dodge.
Slender arms and legs wrapped around him like an octopus. Especially her arms, which tightened around his neck as if she were trying to strangle him on the spot.
"Who are you calling a ferocious dog, you bastard?!" The petite girl's furious yet oddly pleasant voice rang out, and she flashed an adorable little fang.
Yukinoshita finally saw the culprit. The attacker was a beautiful girl with doll-like features, golden twin-tails, clear blue eyes, and porcelain skin. She looked like a living work of art.
Right now, though, she was absolutely furious. Her twin-tails whipped wildly as she shook her head, repeatedly slapping Yoru Moonshadow's cheeks.
"Let go, let go, dammit!"
Struggling to breathe, Yoru tried desperately to pry her hands off. But he didn't expect this golden retriever, despite her petite frame, to be this strong as if she were on steroids. He couldn't loosen her grip at all. She was really trying to strangle him!
His only hope now was for someone else to help pull this rabid dog off him. He glanced at Yukinoshita nope, forget it. She was completely ignoring him.
In Yukinoshita's mind, Yoru totally deserved this. Not only did he scare her, but he also described a girl in such insulting terms. Serves him right.
Left with no other option, Yoru had to save himself. His hands started flailing, grabbing at anything he could.
"Ahh! Where do you think you're grabbing, you pervert? Let go!!!"
A sharp scream rang out just behind his ear, the proximity making his head buzz. But he could feel her limbs loosening their grip, which was his chance to break free.
He wasn't sure what he was grabbing, but if it helped him escape, he wasn't going to question it. He immediately pulled hard.
His actions caused the girl clinging to him to thrash even more, making him lose his balance. He stumbled backward, colliding with a nearby bookshelf before falling to the ground.
…
Propped up on one arm, Yoru could see the girl dabbing his nosebleed with a handkerchief a very soft, very fragrant handkerchief.
The girl was stunning, with long, sleek black hair, exquisitely refined features, and clear black eyes. Her school uniform couldn't hide her perfect curves, and her shapely, firm legs wrapped in black tights made her even more captivating.
This was Utaha Kasumigaoka, a second-year student at Toyonozaki and a certified genius. She was the very same senpai whose razor-sharp words had crushed the confidence of the entire student council from his school last year.
Yet the gentle, soft-spoken girl before him hardly matched the intimidating figure they had described. She seemed far more like a quiet, graceful senpai.
Also, she was leaning in a little too close. That impressive figure of hers… he really didn't know where to look.
She was carefully tending to his nosebleed. And no, the nosebleed wasn't from the typical light novel trope he didn't have his face buried in a certain spot under her skirt. He'd been hit in the face by a thick book that had fallen from the shelf when they toppled over.
Still, how could two geniuses be so different? Yoru's gaze drifted to the other genius in the room Yukinoshita.
The next second, Yukinoshita was right beside him, her icy gaze piercing straight through him. Clearly, she had figured out what he was thinking just from the way he was looking at her. Without hesitation, she slammed a book onto his head.
"Urgh!"
Caught off guard, Yoru let out a muffled groan, his vision sparkling with stars.
Utaha, startled by Yukinoshita's sudden attack, hurriedly checked if he was hurt again or if his injuries had worsened. She was the very picture of a kind, gentle senpai, like an angel.
She looked at Yukinoshita with a mix of confusion and gentle disapproval, as if questioning why she would suddenly hit her fellow classmate. It seemed rather uncalled for.
"Oh my, Yukinoshita-san, why so sudden?"
"It's nothing. I just thought this guy's face was really asking to be hit."
Yukinoshita's cold response was as sharp as ever. For some reason, she found Kasumigaoka Utaha strangely suspicious, as if there was a layer of fog over her, concealing her true self.
