Multiverse: Invasion of the 2D Heroines

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Vignette, I Heard You Almost Beat an A-Rank Hero to Death?

Three beautiful girls walked together.

The first was petite, with the body of a little girl, her golden blonde hair shimmering in the sunlight, her blue eyes striking and bright. She was undeniably cute, though the constant impatience on her face thoroughly ruined her sweetness. Her name was Gabriel White.

The second was also small, with soft, short purple hair and gentle violet eyes. Her pretty face carried a warmth that could calm anyone. She had a kind and peaceful aura, her smile soothing, and she always watched the blonde girl beside her with a caring, sisterly gaze. This girl was Vignette April Tsukinose.

The last was a silver-haired girl with straight, waist-length hair and amber eyes. She had a gentle, almost divine air about her. Her well-proportioned figure and angelic face always wore a pure, radiant smile. Anyone meeting her for the first time would mistake her for a real angel sent from Heaven. She was Raphiel Ainsworth Shiraha.

"Ugh... so annoying. I really don't feel like working today."

Gabriel's face was full of reluctance as she let out a heavy sigh. But if she didn't work, she wouldn't have enough money for her beloved gacha pulls.

Vignette gave a helpless smile in response.

"Raphiel, why are you even coming along?"

Gabriel shot an annoyed look at Raphiel, who was still wearing that sweet, angelic smile.

"Well, I just think watching little Gabriel work is super adorable~"

Raphiel's soft angelic smile and half-lidded eyes gave off a perfect image of kindness, but deep within her gaze, something dark flickered for a brief second.

Gabriel responded with a dead-fish stare.

"I don't even know what those gods are thinking, dumping all sorts of random chores on us without giving me a raise. They're the worst. Just a few days ago, they even summoned me back to Heaven over some tiny issue and gave me a brutal lecture!!!"

Clenching her small fists and fuming, Gabriel's face looked like she might actually punch a god if they appeared in front of her.

"Oh? So the reason you disappeared that day was because you were summoned back to Heaven? What happened?"

"Ah, that? It's because I went to Akihabara to buy a new game console and got into a fight with a B-Rank hero who had just returned from another world. I was in a bad mood and beat him up. Oh, and I also quietly erased his hero powers~"

Raphiel cheerfully raised her hand as she exposed the reason behind Gabriel's sulky face.

Stripping a hero of their powers was essentially the same as stripping their identity. That guy would now have to live as a regular human in the surface world.

"Raphiel, you're seriously calling me out? Didn't you do something even worse last week? You sent a B-Rank Savior who had just awakened memories from his past life straight into a mental hospital!!"

Gabriel's dead-fish stare bore down on Raphiel. As fellow angels, Gabriel knew perfectly well that despite Raphiel's sweet, kind appearance, she was rotten to the core. A pure little devil in disguise.

"My my, little Gabriel, what nonsense are you talking about? That guy really had a few screws loose. I was just being kind and helping him get the treatment he needed. It was for the sake of the human world's peace~"

Raphiel's angelic face remained flawless, her innocent voice making it sound as though Gabriel was the one spouting slander. Her overwhelming saint-like aura made it impossible for anyone else to believe she could do something like that.

But Gabriel wasn't buying it. She glared at Raphiel with dead-fish eyes. This girl was way too good at faking it. In fact, thanks to her perfect disguise, Raphiel always got praised while Gabriel kept getting scolded.

"Raphiel, you..."

"Vignette, you're not seriously falling for this, are you? Haven't you already seen her true nature enough times?"

"Ugh..."

Snapping out of her daze, Vignette twitched at the corner of her eye. This angel was seriously dangerous.

Wait, what were these two angels even doing? Why were they always acting more like devils?

"There are just way too many heroes these days... causing all sorts of trouble. What are the gods in Heaven and those otherworld gods even thinking? All they do is make more work for us! So annoying!!!"

Gabriel was on the verge of losing it. Though, honestly, she was probably the most notorious slacker among the angels on Earth. She always skipped work whenever she could and spent most of her time holed up at home.

"Oh dear, little Gabriel, you really shouldn't talk about the gods like that although, well, they do have a bunch of bird-brained weirdos up there!"

"Hey, isn't that even worse?! That second part is what you really meant, right? You just said it out loud!!"

"Huh? Little Gabriel, what are you talking about? I didn't say anything after the first part~"

"Tsk. What do you think I am, Satania? Anyway, I actually agree with you."

Listening to these two badmouth the gods so openly, Vignette could only force a stiff smile. She was starting to wonder if they were secretly spies sent by the Demon Realm to infiltrate Heaven.

Aren't you two afraid of divine punishment dropping on your heads?

By the way, these two were both top graduates from the angel academy in Heaven, ranking first and second place, and were considered super elites who might one day step into godhood. It was hard to imagine that the two of them would turn out like this.

"Vignette, I heard from Satania that you recently got praised by the Demon King. What happened?"

Raphiel leaned in with a sweet, teasing smile, clearly intrigued.

"Ah, it's nothing really~"

Vignette scratched her cheek awkwardly, her gaze darting nervously while cold sweat ran down her back.

"Vignette, I heard you almost beat an A-Rank hero to death?"

"Ehhh?! Seriously?!"

Gabriel was stunned. Vignette was always so kind and gentle. It was impossible to picture her beating a world-saving hero half to death.

Even though Vignette was a demon from the Demon Realm, this Demon Realm coexisted alongside the human world (the real world) it wasn't the same as the Demon Realms in other worlds. The same applied to Heaven. Both sides now worked to maintain the balance of this world, and they hadn't engaged in angel-versus-demon wars for ages. These days, the relationship between Heaven and the Demon Realm was more like that of corporate rivals.

If Heaven tended to favor heroes summoned from other worlds, the Demon Realm leaned more toward supporting heroes who had awakened memories from their past lives. To distinguish them, these heroes were now commonly referred to as Saviors.

"Come on, tell us~"

"Yeah, tell us~"

"Fine, fine, I'll tell you. That guy's equipment was just too weird! He looked exactly like… like a cockroach! I was so freaked out I lost my mind!!"

Cockroach the nightmare of humanity. Even demons, like Vignette, were absolutely terrified of them. The moment she saw that hero's outfit, she completely panicked and blacked out. By the time she snapped out of it, the hero who had tried to chat her up was already half-dead.

"Yikes. Vignette's afraid of cockroaches?"

"Raphiel, you're not seriously planning to mess with me now, are you? I'll really get mad!!!"

"We're here. I've got work now. You two better not stick around and cause trouble. Scram!!"

Little did anyone know, the clash between angels and demon lords was about to begin once again.
