Chapter 8: Conflicts Abound
It was an eventful night for Star, first she and Tom had gone to find Buff Frog after a mysterious warning, then when she got to his home, everything was a mess and he was gone, along with all his kids. Not too long after that, they were tranquilized and brought to the woods.
It was there they found out that Buff Frog was fine, but he was ready to leave Mewni for an unforeseeable amount of time, probably forever. However, things were really set to change soon, and not in the ways Star immediately thought.
Many of the monsters had gone through the portal, Buff Frog being the last one, but not before making sure his kids were through as well.
"Now you babies," Buff Frog said, counting as his kids entered the portal, but after twelve, he realized one was missing. "Where is Katrina?"
The little frog girl was with Star, "I made you something, so you don't forget me."
She presented a bracelet, which Star greatly appreciated, "Aw, that's so sweet. I actually have something for you too."
Star presented a stuffed animal, the frog girl getting excited upon seeing it, "My toy!" After taking it, Katrina went to join her father in entering the portal, to Star's sadness and disappointment.
Before going through the portal himself, Buff Frog did a froggy salute to Star, earning a wave from her and the demon boy as he stepped through the portal, leaving Mewni behind.
Star was of course heartbroken that Buff Frog and his family left, wishing things turned out differently.
"I can't believe they're gone," Star lamented. "Have I only made things worse?"
"Come on Star, have a little faith," Tom urged. "I'm a monster, you're a mewman, but we make it work, there's hope for everyone."
"Aw, thanks Tom," Star said, hugging her boyfriend.
"So...did I do better than Marco?" Tom coyly asked.
"Speaking of Marco, we should get back to the castle," Star said. "He should know about Buff Frog, plus maybe now you can finally meet Amity."
"That sounds great," Tom said. "Let's get-"
"Star!" Came Hekapoo's voice, the demon lady entering through a portal. "There you are! We've been looking all over for you!"
"Hekapoo? What are you doing here?" Star asked. "Also, who's 'we'?"
"Who do you think?" Hekapoo said, gesturing to Rhombulus and Omnitrax Prime.
"What's going on?" Tom asked. "Is this about Buff Frog?"
"Tom!" Star scolded.
"Huh? What about Buff Frog?" Hekapoo asked.
"He moved," Star said, keeping it as vague as possible. "Anyway why are you here?"
"We've been looking for Marco and his witch friend all day, do you know where they went?" Hekapoo asked.
"No, I figured they went to town or something," Star said. "I've been busy with Tom."
"Well he wasn't there," Hekapoo said. "Or in the castle, or pretty much anywhere. We even asked that Janna girl, she told me she hasn't seen them at all."
"Wait, Marco and Amity are gone?" Star asked. "Like completely gone?"
"It would seem that way," Omnitrax Prime said. "There's no trace of them at all, and they know better than to be away from the castle too long, especially with that witch in toll."
"Is she dangerous?" Tom asked.
"She's a witch, of course she's dangerous," Hekapoo said. "That's why she's not allowed to be by herself, nor is her caretaker."
"This is most concerning," Omnitrax Prime said. "Especially with the threat of The Boiling Isles looming overhead."
"Look, we'll find them, but can it be that bad?" Tom asked. "Lilith seems like a nice lady and it sounds like this Amity girl is really nice too."
"She is nice, she's a little shy and reserved but she's really nice," Star said. "If she and Marco are missing, then we should prioritize finding them to make sure they're safe, not just because of some invasion."
"Your naivety will be the end of us all one day," Hekapoo scolded.
"I'd rather be naive than heartless," Star said. "Remember you three are still in hot water over what happened with Eclipsa's daughter."
"We did what we had to do Star, when you get older, you'll understand why certain things need to be done," Hekapoo said.
"When I get older, you better not try that stunt with me and Tom," Star said.
"Wait, I thought you liked Marco?" Rhombulus said, getting an annoyed reaction from Star. "Remember, it was in that song that Ruberiot guy-"
"Can we not talk about that?" Star said. "That was awkward for a lot of us."
"It's also proof that you and your family can be secretive too, so I wouldn't be shaming us for what we've done," Hekapoo said.
"My secret was to keep Mewni calm, yours was just...prejudice!" Star said.
"Alright, that's enough," Omnitrax Prime said. "Star, you are upset, and I do not blame you. But we have important matters at hand, we do need to find Marco and Amity, regardless of any reason why."
"Yeah, you're not wrong," Star admitted. "I hope they're alright."
"Let's head back to the castle, maybe they're returned by now," Tom suggested.
"We can hope so," Omnitrax Prime said, the group making their way back to the castle.
The following morning in Wartwood, Mayor Toadstool had held a town meeting for the residents of the town, one attended by the Plantar Family, the Witches and the humans present, along with the sole toad still in down.
"Now I know all of you are a bit on edge because of Sasha and Grime currently living in Wartwood," Toadstool said.
"Huh? Why? Are you all still salty about the invasion or something!?" Sasha asked.
"Yeah, we only invaded you one time, move on already," Grime said.
"Those two cannot be serious," Luz lamented.
"I'm just suggesting some levity for the town, so I present to you all, the Wheel of Fun!" Toadstool said.
"The Wheel of Fun?" Luz asked.
"It's a town tradition, once in a while the Mayor will spin the wheel and decide on a theme for all of us to take part in," Hop Pop said.
"Wow, that does sound fun," Luz said. "It lives up to its name."
The wheel landed on its destination, one that was a disappointment to one but exciting for many, "Get your teams ready! We're having a Battle of the Bands!"
The crowd cheered at the prospect, some eager to play and some eager for a good show. It wasn't long before they separated, leaving the humans and their friends remaining.
"A Battle of the Bands?" Marco asked. "Sounds like something out of a school Talent Show. Don't think I'll be taking part though."
"Same, I'm not a musician," Luz said.
"I can teach you, I'm quite great with a mandolin, if I do say so myself," Eda said. "Maybe I can take the stage."
"You need a team though," Marco said. "I'm not sure if they'll let you go up by yourself."
"Team are not required, just suggested," Hop Pop said. "Eda would do great up there."
"Assuming she doesn't get stage fright," King said, much to Eda's annoyance.
"Well I'd say this is the perfect opportunity for a Sasha and the Sharps reunion!" Anne said.
"The what and the who?" Sprig asked.
"It's an old garage band that me, Anne and Sasha had back home," Marcy said.
"We used to SLAY back home," Sasha shouted with ferocity, making everyone a little uncomfortable.
"Why? Why did you need to use that word specifically?" King asked.
"Oh man up," Sasha said, much to King's annoyance.
"Sprig! Hopediah!" Wally said, getting their attention as he bench pressed another. "Want to join me and Luggles in a jug band?"
"That sounds great!" Hop Pop said. "Hey Eda! Wanna join?"
"Uh...you go ahead, don't want to disrupt whatever flow you have going on here," Eda insisted.
"Suit yourself, let's go Hop Pop," Sprig said, running off with his grandfather.
"Wait, I want to come too!" King said, then turned to the little frog girl nearby. "Are you joining us, Polly?"
"You go and have fun King, I'm staying with the girls, and Marco," Polly said. "Keep my brother out of trouble if you can."
"You got it," King said, following Sprig and Hop Pop.
"Tonight's gonna be fun for sure," Luz said, turning to Anne. "Still can't believe you're in a band thought! You're so much cooler than I thought you were!"
"Me? Cool?" Anne asked, feeling a bit flustered. "That's a first. Wanna be our groupie?"
"A groupie?" Luz asked. "Wow, never thought about being something like that before."
"Uh...isn't that a not-so-great thing?" Marco asked.
"It just means she's a big fan and follows our music, not like I'm hitting on her or asking her to make out with me," Anne said, getting a huge blush from Luz.
Amity's eyes widened, Marco noticing and immediately trying to deflate the situation, "What I mean is...maybe Luz can have more of a role, do you need a back-up singer? Or dancer?"
"We're good, thanks," Sasha said. "This is a rock band, not a boy band."
"Well yeah, you're girls, not boys," Marco said.
Sasha face palmed in annoyance, "My point is, our type of music doesn't need back-up singers or dancers, maybe light shows and stuff but that's it."
"Luz can at least hang out with us, give her a sneak peek at our music," Anne said.
"That sounds fun, I'd like to see you girls playing as well," Marco said.
"You can totally come too!" Marcy quickly insisted, trying to catch herself. "You, Luz and Amity can be our preview audience."
"So what do you three say?" Anne asked.
"Sure, if that's alright with Sasha," Marco said.
It was no secret that Sasha did not want any of these three around, but if she said anything, she knew she would catch flak from Anne, Luz or even Eda. Not to mention now she has Amity to worry about.
"Fine by me, they're your friends after all," Sasha said.
"Let's head to my room to practice," Anne suggested, leading the girls and Marco away, except Sasha for a moment.
"Grimesy, gonna practice a bit, you're good here?" Sasha asked.
"Of course, I do have my own performance to consider," Grime said, making his own exit.
"I should practice too," Eda said. "Make sure you and the other girls behave yourself."
"What are you, my mom?" Sasha asked, earning a glare from the older witch. "Take a joke, will you?"
Sasha walked off, leaving Eda disappointed, "Times like this I'm glad Luz is so well behaved. But, I shouldn't talk, I was probably no different than Sasha at one point. Anne still has faith in her, so that's something, and a good friend like Anne is great for a girl like Sasha, especially a friend who's willing to call you on your crap. I just hope Luz, and Amity for that matter, can keep themselves composed. Maybe I should..." Eda shook her head. "No, they have to learn for themselves. Plus with Anne, Marcy, and Marco there, things should stay level headed."
She began to practice a bit with her mandolin, feeling the rhythm of her instrument. Though as she played, memories of an old friend of hers began to resurface, pleasant ones that reminded her of a happier time. It also reminded her of an old pain that plagued her heart.
"Kind of wish Raine were here for this," Eda said to herself. "That would be a true battle, Raine's Rhapsody against Eda's Requiem. The audience would have definitely loved that."
Everyone was preparing for the battle of the bands, especially Anne and her band, the group rehearsing in the basement, warming up their instruments.
"This is gonna be so fun," Luz said. "I feel like we're backstage at a band's concert. I've never really been too into this stuff, but part of me feels happy, like I get to be an actual teenager."
"An actual teenager? What does that even mean?" Marco asked.
"Hard to say, this just feels normal for me," Luz said. "Don't you think so Amity?"
"Sure, I guess," Amity said. "I was never that into concerts much, but I'm always for a nice change of pace."
"So, what song should we play at the battle?" Marcy asked.
"We should totally play 'Heart Stomper', that's a classic for us back home," Sasha said.
"That sounds great! You good with that Anne?" Marcy asked, noticing that Anne was oddly quiet. "Uh, Anne? Is something on your mind?"
"Well, I kind of wrote a song about Amphibia, and I'd like to play it together," Anne said.
"You wrote a song!?" Luz asked. "You're a musician and a song writer! So cool!"
Amity groaned in annoyance, muttering to herself, "It's not that cool."
"Amity..." Marco said, gently stroking her back to calm the girl while focusing on the girls. "That sounds really cool Anne, it'd be great if your band were to play it."
"I'm down with that!" Marcy said. "If...Sasha's alright with it."
All eyes went on the sole blond of the room, who looked visibly annoyed. Fortunately, she seemed on board with the idea. "Sure, teach it to us Anne."
"Thanks Sash," Anne said, then focused on the audience. "Prepare yourselves for a preview."
The girls began practicing the song, Frobo creating some fog and Polly using mushrooms as a form of light batons. Each of the audience felt different emotions as the song went on.
Luz was relating hard to Anne and her message, admiring the girl's skill in guitar and the passion in her soul.
Marco had similar feelings, in a way he could see slight similarities between Anne and Star, both girls trying to figure out their roles in life and making the best out of situations, though one thing Anne seemed to have that Star lacked was confidence.
Amity however felt a bit jealous; she couldn't deny the skills that Anne and her friends had, and worried about Luz's ever growing interest in them.
"Finding me and it's no big deal..." Anne sang, then turned to her friends. "This is the part where Sasha does an epic guitar solo, and we finish the song right after."
"Nice work Anna Banana," Marcy said. "It's fun to play too."
"Audience? What's your reaction?" Anne asked.
"It's great, you really sang from the heart Anne, I respect that in a musician," Marco said. "Marcy and Sasha did amazing too, you girls have real talent."
"Aw, thanks Marco," Marcy said, trying to hide her blush.
"What about you Amity?" Anne asked.
"It was...really nice," Amity said, trying to find the right words. "You're a…great singer with a...very lovely voice. Like Marco said, your song really had meaning. You're a very...well driven girl."
"Well...great," Anne said, unintentionally mimicking Amity's speech pattern. "How about-"
"I love your song so much! You are such a great singer! Like, really, REALLY amazing!" Luz shouted in glee. "Your song nearly got a tear from my eye; I can't believe it's something you wrote! Actually I can believe it, because you are so cool!"
"Geez, if we didn't know any better, it's like you have a crush on Anne or something," Sasha said.
"WHICH is not the case, right Luz?" Marco said, just as Amity looked like she was about to panic.
"Uh, right, not a crush, just respect," Luz awkwardly said. She wasn't blind, she could see that Amity looked a little worked up herself, Luz figured maybe she should tone back her admiration a bit.
"Do you like it, Sasha?" Anne asked.
"It's great!" Sasha said, then took Anne's pad. "Let me make some changes though."
"What changes?" Luz asked, immediately getting suspicious.
"It's probably some friendly suggestions, I mean they are a band, input matters," Marco said.
"Wow, smarter than you look Marky," Sasha said.
"It's Marco, actually," the boy pointed out.
"Whatever," Sasha began making the changes. "The lyrics are all over the place, they need to change." She flipped the page and noticed some drawings, "Bug suits?" She began crossing them off. "Hell no, that won't work."
"What is she doing..." Luz asked, trying not to raise her voice.
"Let them settle it, it's a band matter," Marco nervously insisted.
"Also, Mar-Mar, your drumming is a little too intense," Sasha said, getting rid of most of the drum and a cymbal.
"I...kind of liked the drumming though," Marco said.
"Well, I'm not looking for audience input right now," Sasha said, earning a glare from both witches present as she turned to Polly, dropping some mushrooms on her. "You need more light, and Frobo, too much fog, but somehow not enough, you get me?"
"That's weird logic," Marco said.
"Zip it," Sasha said, readying to rock again. "So...like my changes?"
"Uh, solid ideas Sasha, but now it doesn't feel like my song," Anne said. "It looks and feels different now."
"That's collaboration for you Anne," Sasha said.
"More like hostile takeover, things don't always need to go your way," Anne said.
"You tell her Anne! Don't let her push you around!" Luz said.
"Luz, be quiet! You're gonna make things worse!" Marco said.
"I'm just calling it as is, it was such a nice song, why does she have to ruin it!?" Luz asked. "No matter what, she just can't appreciate what she has."
"Ok, you know what," Sasha packed up her stuff. "I'll just leave, you're all so much happier without me anyway."
"Sasha, please, let's resolve this," Anne said. "I still want to play the song with you, it'll mean more to me."
"Look, Anne, it's better if I leave, you can have fun, and I can have things my way," Sasha said. "Plus, I'm not exactly beloved by your new friends, at least now they can enjoy your music without me being the villain in their eyes."
"But Sasha..." Marcy pleaded.
"I'll still root for you, I'm just trying to make sure we're all happy, even if it means making a tough choice," Sasha said. "It'll be fine, I'll catch you all later."
Sasha had made her way out the house, despite her looking confident, she did feel a bit dejected, and once again even more outcast with not only Luz but the addition of Marco and Amity. Things just weren't the same now.
Anne groaned in annoyance, turning her attention to Luz, clearly displeased with the young witch, something Luz could sense.
"Uh...did I mention how much I love your singing?" Luz asked, hoping to calm the situation.
"Luz, we've talked about this, and I know Marcy has too. You really need to stop antagonizing Sasha," Anne said.
"But Anne, she was being mean," Luz said. "She ruined your song and she even disrespected Marco when he was trying to be nice."
"I know, and it's annoying, but you're not exactly making thing easy," Anne said. "You've only known her a couple of days and almost every time you interact, there's always some fighting or tension, it needs to stop. What Sasha's doing is wrong, but so are you, and two wrongs don't make a right!"
"But Anne..." Luz said.
"But nothing Luz," Anne said. "Even if Sasha's a pain, she's still my friend, and I have known her longer than I've known you, so I have to see things from her end as well. You're great yourself but you're still new, don't act like you have much room to talk about the friendship I have with Sasha and Marcy."
"You know, she's just looking out for you, I don't see why you need to make her feel like crap over this," Amity said.
"Amity, be quiet!" Marco scolded. "Let Anne handle it."
"Why should I? Anne's talking to MY friend, I have a right to say something about it," Amity said.
"Anne has a right to be upset, and she's not trying to make Luz feel like crap, she's just being honest with her," Marco said.
"It's ungrateful though, plus Luz is a way better person than Sasha," Amity said. "Anne needs to appreciate that better."
"Look you..." Anne was about to speak, but Marco stopped her.
"I got this," Marco said, then focused on Amity. "You know, you told me once that you yourself were unkind to others, if anything shouldn't you understand where Anne is coming from in regard to Sasha?"
Amity was about to argue the point, but she couldn't because she knew Marco was right, and it bothered her. "I need some air."
Amity stormed away, leaving everyone behind, and frustrating Marco. "Amity don't just walk off!"
"I'll go talk to her..." Luz said, awkwardly making her way out the room. "And Anne...I'm sorry if I upset you."
"Luz, you know I like you. I'm just trying to make all of us friends," Anne said.
"I know..." Luz said, making her exit. "It's just...difficult."
Anne started to feel bad, she knows Luz just cares about her, but she couldn't say nothing, she cares about Sasha too. "Great, so much for a fun night."
"Sorry about all this, I tried keeping Luz and Anne under control but, it got out of hand I guess," Marco said.
"Don't blame yourself, it's not your responsibility," Anne said. "I should have stood up to Sasha a long time ago. Though I suppose it's because I never did that I came to Amphibia, so at least that had a payoff."
"How long have you and Sasha been friends?" Marco asked.
"Since we were little kids," Anne said.
"Ah, makes sense, you don't want to just throw away an old friendship," Marco said. "You see Sasha beyond what's on the exterior."
"Something like that," Anne said. "I just wish I could make Luz see how great Sasha is, look past those flaws."
"These things take time," Marco said. "I get how awkward this is. When I made friends with Star, a lot of her friends didn't seem to like me, especially her boyfriend. I had to work to earn that good faith, and it paid off, mostly at least. Her boyfriend is now one of my best buds, and her other friends at least tolerate me. Luz and Sasha just need to get used to each other."
"But how? They just feel so opposite," Anne said.
"Well, what made you want to be friends with Sasha?" Marco asked.
"Since she protected me and Marcy from bullies, I respected how strong she was and I kind of wanted to emulate that," Anne said. "I doubt that will work with Luz. She saw Sasha defeat a golem and save our lives, and that still wasn't enough."
"To be fair, we were all in equal danger, not saying Sasha was looking out only for herself, but Luz could interpret it that way," Marcy said.
"I gotta fix this," Anne said. "The band thing can wait; my friends are more important. I'll start by talking to Luz, I think I hurt her feelings."
"You were tough on her, but you had to be," Marco said. "She'll think more than twice about upsetting Sasha, and more than thrice about upsetting you."
"You sound so enlightened, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you sounded more like an adult than a teenager," Anne said, getting an awkward reaction from Marco.
"I get that a lot," Marco said. "Well, I'd get going if you want to check on Luz."
"I'm on it," Anne said, making her way upstairs.
"So what now?" Polly asked.
"Maybe you should find your grandpa, if this band pulls out, at least you can play with his hand," Marco said. "Or maybe Eda's looking for a light show."
"I'll figure it out, let's roll Frobo," Polly said, leaving with her robot.
"You know, it's weird that she has a pet robot, I took this place for a more medieval type thing," Marco said
"It is, mostly, Frobo's still a bit of a mystery but Anne said she's found what looked like modern-day technology, so maybe Amphibia's more advanced that it lets on," Marcy said. "I'm still researching the history of this world."
"Well anyway, this thing with Anne and Sasha, does it normally happen?" Marco asked.
"No, usually we just do what Sasha says," Marcy explained. "This is the first time Anne's really pushed back, being in Amphibia's really changed her."
"Stuff like this would change a person," Marco said.
"I get that Sasha's a pain, but like Anne said, she's really nice deep down, she's just going through a lot of personal trouble and has a hard time being honest about her emotions," Marcy said.
"I totally get it, I've seen girls like that, they put on a tough act to hide their insecurities," Marco said. "Sasha is not the most aggressive girl I've seen either, she's probably pretty tame compared to other girls I've met."
"Know a lot of girls, do you?" Marcy teasingly asked. "Popular with the ladies?"
"No, not really, in my life I've only had one girlfriend, and that didn't end so well," Marco said. "It wasn't a bad break-up, but it still kind of stings."
"I'm sorry to hear," Marcy said. "Better than me, I haven't even gotten a boyfriend. I'm probably not a catch for most guys anyway."
"What a pretty girl like you?" Marco said, almost instinctively, and immediately regretting upon seeing Marcy's face. "Sorry, that was probably really weird for me to say."
"No, I don't mind, you're just a really nice boy," Marcy said, trying to hide her blush.
"Well, anyway..." Marco had to think of something to move on from the awkwardness. "You know, since Anne and Amity went to check on Luz, we should go and check on Sasha. She tried to hide it, but I can tell she was bothered by what happened."
"Yeah, she was," Marcy said, standing up. "Let's get to it."
Up above, Luz was taking a walk to clear her head, thinking over what happened with Sasha. Despite her efforts and promises, something about Sasha just really bothered her. Friendship was a rare thing for Luz, and to see Sasha take it for granted bothered her to no end, plus Sasha just came off as a bully and Luz could not respect someone like that.
"Luz, wait up!" Amity called, getting her attention.
"Oh, Amity, were you looking for me?" Luz asked.
"Of course, that was a pretty awkward moment back there," Amity said. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit frustrated, mostly at me for not handling the Sasha thing well," Luz said. "She just gets of my nerves, and I hate that she seems to walk all over Anne and Marcy. Then Anne got upset with me because of how I behaved."
"I don't blame you for getting upset at that girl, she's so obnoxious," Amity said. "But, Marco did have a point when he said we're not too different. Sasha acts towards Anne how I used to act towards Willow."
"At least you changed, sounds like Sasha is incapable of doing so," Luz said.
"I wish I could agree, but I don't know much about her myself," Amity said. "Look, I'm not saying I like Sasha; I don't even get why Marcy or Anne would like her either, guess that's just another strange mystery."
"Anne...I probably should get back to her, I did break my promise to her and Marcy about behaving around Sasha," Luz said.
"Well it's not like she made the promise easy to keep," Amity said. "I wouldn't worry too much about her."
"Still, I don't want things to be bad between us," Luz said. "I mean, they just welcomed me into their Friendship group, I don't want them to regret it."
"You seem quite fond of Anne, is there a reason?" Amity asked.
"She's just really cool, the way she fights and composes herself is amazing," Luz said. "Plus I relate to her a lot, like me she was trapped in another world, but we each made the most of it. Not to mention, she made a really catchy song about it, and she has a really nice voice when she sings."
"Uh-huh..." Amity said, getting a bit jealous. "She seems alright herself, even if she makes poor choices regarding who she makes friends with. Then again you became my friend, so maybe you are alike."
"Aw, don't say that, you're a really sweet girl Amity," Luz said. "I guess you just needed someone to look past what was on the surface, probably what Anne tries to do with Sasha."
"I do have you to thank for that, not many other witches would have given me that second chance," Amity said, blushing a bit. "You know, the day I came to your house, the day you disappeared, I...kind of had something I wanted to talk to you about."
Luz began blushing as well, wondering if Amity was thinking what she was thinking, "Oh, well, we're both here now. Do you want to get it off your chest?"
"Kind of..." Amity said, trying to figure out the words for this. "It's about the other night, after that trip to the library. You see...the evening ended, I think...well, I hoped to-"
"Luz!" Anne called, making her way over, much to Amity's annoyance.
"Anne?" Luz asked.
"Well that killed the mood..." Amity angrily mumbled.
"Luz!" Anne stopped before her, panting and catching her breath. "Sorry, I was in a hurry to find you."
"Is everything alright?" Luz asked. "I mean, aside from what happened with Sasha."
"We're still working on that, but I came to find you because, well, I felt kind of bad for snapping at you," Anne said. "I know you just worry because you think Sasha's a bad friend, and honestly, it's probably my fault you think this way. I told you some personal issues I had with her, at the time I was subconsciously venting frustrations and speaking without thinking. It probably didn't help that Sasha has such a bad reputation that everyone in Wartwood seems to take issue with her."
"Got that right," Amity said.
"Come on Amity," Luz said, focusing back on Anne to let her continue.
"I know I've said this a bunch of times, but that doesn't make it any less true when I say that Sasha really isn't so bad, she's just too used to doing things how she wants to," Anne said. "As much as she's been a pain looking back, I still haven't forgotten the nice things she's done for me. I value her for her pros more than her cons, and right now the two of us are working things out to fix our friendship. I know it might be a lot to ask because Sasha's not making this easy, but I really need you to be patient. If she's causing trouble, I'll fix it. Me and Marcy are the only ones she'll probably listen to, or at least acknowledge, but it's gonna take some time."
"How much time?" Amity asked.
"As long as it takes, but I will need you both to try being patient, if she bothers any of you too much, just walk away from the situation, it'll be resolved eventually," Anne said.
"Well, alright," Luz said. "Just promise that you'll keep standing up to her when she deserves it and reminding her how lucky she is to have you as a friend. I really wish I knew someone like you growing up and I worry that Sasha doesn't seem to appreciate your company as much as she should."
"Well you know me now at least, it's my goal for all four of us to be friends," Anne said. "Well, I guess with Amity and Marco around, that could make six."
"I'm just here temporarily, so is Marco," Amity said. "He actually has a friend of his own to get back to, one who's very special to him."
"Is it a girl named Star?" Anne asked. "He mentioned her by name earlier, said he had trouble bonding with her boyfriend."
"Yes, he's told me about that, I have yet to meet him but Star says he's a really sweet guy," Amity said.
"Well even if you have to go back, there's no reason we can't all be friends," Anne said. "And if Marco wants, we can add Star to this group too, I wouldn't mind getting to know her."
"Same here, Marco seems like a really good judge of character, and if this girl really is his best friend, she must be special," Luz said.
"She is, she's really nice," Amity said. "She's a good Princess who cares a lot about her country, though seems to take too much responsibility for her age."
"Maybe she needs a vacation, too bad there's no way of getting there, unless we help Marco find those scissors," Luz said.
"You know, I'd like to hear more about Marco and his multiverse travels," Luz said. "I mean, getting used to one world took some time, Marco's probably been to a bunch."
"Let's get back home, he and Marcy are probably waiting," Anne said.
"Well...we don't have to rush back, maybe we can let Marco and Marcy get to know each other a bit," Amity suggested.
It took her a moment, but Anne seemed to understand what Amity was saying, "Wait, you think Marco...and Marcy...?"
"Have you seen how Marcy acts around him?" Amity pointed out.
Anne did remember that Marcy seemed occasionally flustered by Marco's presence, between the blushing and the times she stumbled over her words, "Oh wow how did I not notice? Marcy's totally crushing on Marco, isn't she?"
"Wait really!?" Luz said. "Oh wow, that's so cool! Think they'll hook up?"
"It depends on Marco, fortunately he seems good at reading social situations, and could pick up on Marcy's feelings," Amity said. "But, he has admitted that he's had poor luck with girls, so his confidence might be hurting."
"We just gonna keep things going smoothly for him and Marcy, it'll happen soon," Anne said.
"Too bad Star's not here, she'd be able to help with Marco, I've only known him a couple of days, but I still feel like there's plenty I'm not aware of," Amity said.
"We'll make it work," Luz said. "Come on, let's find our blooming love birds."
Elsewhere Marco and Marcy were traveling through the village towards the Sundew residence.
"According to Ivy, Sasha and Grime should be staying at her house's spare room," Marcy said. "We just go over and make sure everything's alright."
"Sounds like a plan," Marco said. "Also, who's Ivy exactly?"
"Sprig's girlfriend," Marcy explained.
"Oh, he has a girlfriend? How nice," Marco said.
"Yeah, in fact that's her right there," Marcy said, gesturing to the young frog. "Hey Ivy!"
"Sup Marcy!" Ivy greeted, before taking note of the other boy. "Who's he?"
"This is Marco, he's new," Marcy said.
"Hello," Marco greeted.
"Another human? Wow, Amphibia's getting really popular on Earth," Ivy said.
"It's a long story, we just came to check on Sasha," Marcy said.
"She's not here, I figured she'd be at the Plantars' place," Ivy said.
"She was, then there was an argument, and she left," Marco said.
"Oof, how bad of an argument?" Ivy asked. "Not so that that she'll be angry enough to destroy the town, is it?"
A now worried Marco turned his attention to the girl beside him, "Marcy, just how dangerous is Sasha!?"
"She's not dangerous...just emotional sometimes," Marcy said.
"Does she process those emotions through violence or something!?" Marco asked.
"...Define violence," Marcy said, earning a bemused glare from Marco. "Alright, she gets a little angry but for the most part she just yells. For me I just learned to roll with it."
"I think this is why Luz was so concerned before," Marco said.
"I know, and she has a reason to be, but...look like Anne said, it's a bit complicated with Sasha," Marcy said.
"That girl is beyond complicated," Ivy said. "Anyway like I said, she isn't here, but we should probably find her before the people in town notice that she's on her own, they might start to panic."
"Not making me feel any more reassured here," a worried Marco said.
"Never mind that, she can't have gotten far," Marcy said. "I say we check the woods, it's far away enough for her to be isolated without anyone in town getting worried."
"That makes sense, I mean no one really goes into the woods, except for Maddie," Ivy said. "Way too many monsters."
"Monsters?" Marco asked.
"She's got a sword, she'll be fine," Marcy said.
"That's not the...eh, whatever, I'm used to monsters anyway, let's go," Marco said.
The two quickly ran off into the forest, hoping to find any sign of Sasha while Ivy took a quick look around. "Might as well join then."
As Marco and Marcy patrolled through the forest, keeping an eye out for Sasha, Marco hoping things aren't as bad as he's imagining them to be.
"So, Marcy, have you seen Sasha use her sword skills at all?" Marco asked. "Do you know how good she is?"
"She's really talented, I saw her use it a few times when we were in that Volcano, she's been training hard," Marcy said, then showed off her own weapon. "Kind of like how I trained hard with this crossbow."
"That's cool, so are you like a knight for Andrias? Or at least a squire?" Marco asked.
"I'm not an official knight, I do like to consider myself in like a Rogue Mercenary role," Marcy said. "What about you?"
"Me? Well I'm technically a squire, even if the other squires hated it," Marco said. "Apparently they thought I got the role for being Star's boyfriend, even though we're not dating. Honestly it was a weird title for me to have since I wasn't actually training to be a knight, if anything I felt more like a bodyguard for Star."
"Well knights are like bodyguards in a way," Marcy said.
"Thing is, I don't really use swords, I'm a martial artist type," Marco said. "Red Belt at that."
"Red belt is amazing, you must have a great teacher," Marcy said.
"Oh totally, Sensei Brantley is great...even if we technically had to learn Red Belt together, but he still helped give me my start," Marco said. "He's a chill dude, but also intense at the same time, if that makes sense."
"Does anything make sense these days?" Marcy teased.
"Guess not," Marco said.
"I gotta admit, I am curious about that girl, Star and what she's like," Marcy said, this getting Marco's full attention. "Is she basically your BFF?"
"Well yeah, Star and I are pretty close, she's probably the most loyal friend I've had in a while," Marco said. "I mean, I've had friends, but they were, well...it felt like they were just guys I hung out with, not actual friends like Star was. Like I feel like I can tell her almost anything, and she can tell me, or at least I know when something's bothering her."
"Having friends like that is great, I feel the same way with Anne," Marcy said. "Oh, and Sasha too sometimes. What about you and Amity? What's your story?"
"There isn't much of a story, I've only known her a couple of days, but she seems really nice and I do feel close to her," Marco said. "She does seem a bit distant at times, but I feel like she trusts me to an extent. But Luz would probably know more about her than I do."
"So a girl you just met, yet you have forged an unbreakable bond with her," Marcy said. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that sounded romantic."
"I wouldn't go that far, I mean I like her and we definitely trust each other, but to say we have an unbreakable bond, that's a bit much," Marco said. "That type of Friendship takes time, but I can understand why you'd think that, I bonded pretty quickly with Star."
"Sometimes you just find that one person you know you're meant to be friends with," Marcy said.
"Something like that," Marco said. "Also, there's definitely no romance between me and Amity, I'm not really her type. Something she told me herself."
"Oof, sorry if that was a bad memory," Marcy said.
"Not really, she was nice about it, but there's someone else she likes, so right now I'm trying to help Amity build up the courage to be honest with that person about her feelings," Marco said.
"If it's matchmaking you need help with, I can definitely get Anne and Sasha on board for that," Marcy said.
"Have you done something like that before?" Marco asked.
"Well, Anne knows this stuff, she reads a lot of magazines," Marcy said, earning a pitiful glare from Marco.
"Sure sounds like something a teenage girl would come up with," the boy said, then noticed something in the distance. "Hold up, someone's there."
"Is it Sasha!?" Marcy asked, about to run ahead when Marco stopped her.
"Hey, don't just rush in! What if you get hurt?" Marco asked.
"Come on, I deal with this enough from Anne, I'll be fine," Marcy insisted, then showed off her weapon. "I have a crossbow after all."
"That doesn't mean you should..." Marco saw the creature, pulling Marcy behind him and getting into a martial arts stance. "I'll keep you safe."
Marcy couldn't be mad; in a way it was flattering that a boy wanted to protect her. Eventually the creature emerged, revealing himself to be someone Marco was very familiar with. "Buff Frog!?"
The old frog man turned to see the young boy, "Marco? Marco Diaz?"
"Whoa! Buff Frog, I can't believe this!" Marco said.
"I am not believing it either, never expect to see you in Amphibia," Buff Frog said. "Uh, by chance, were you sent here by Star Butterfly?"
"No, she didn't send me, actually I came here by accident," Marco said.
"Must have been quite an accident," Buff Frog said, then noticed Marcy. "Who is this? Another human? Or is she also from Mewni?"
"That's Marcy, she's a human like me," Marco said.
"Hi, you must be one of Marco's friends," Marcy greeted, offering the widest smile she could muster. "Welcome to Amphibia, or Welcome Back, I don't know if you've been here before."
"Not for long time," Buff Frog said. "I am surprised to see human girl here, are humans common in this world now?"
"No, it's just me, my friends Anne and Sasha, and my new friend Luz," Marcy said. "There's also a couple of witches here."
"Witches? Ah, like that Amity girl?" Buff Frog asked.
"Yeah, Amity got stuck here too, but she found her friend Luz and her teacher Eda," Marco said. "But this is great, since you're here, and you have a pair of scissors, you can send me back to Mewni!"
"Where are the scissors you had?" Buff Frog asked.
A feeling of awkwardness overtook Marco, now having to explain this to an old friend and former solider. "Uh...I kind of lost them."
Buff Frog's eyes widened in surprise, "You lost dimensional scissors? That is not good Marco, if evil person finds them, they can be used for terrible danger."
"I'm aware of that...luckily I don't think there's anyone evil in Newtopia, at least I hope so," Marco said.
"Unlikely, King Andrias is very much on top of things, plus he's got a somewhat competent army," Marcy said.
"Still, this very risky," Buff Frog said.
"I'll find them later," Marco insisted. "For now, maybe you can help me out."
"Sure, but I do need to get me and my children settled," Buff Frog said, gesturing to his many kids.
"Hello Marco," Katrina said.
"Wow, your kids grew up nicely, and they're developing," Marco said.
"They're so adorable..." Marcy said. "You're gonna love here in Wartwood, it's a really nice, rural town."
"I should hope so, need break from other world," Buff Frog said. "So, you wish to join me until I am ready?"
"Actually, maybe you can open the portal now, I can go find Star and she can come here," Marco said.
"Uh...might be awkward if she comes, I just say good-bye to Star, without planning on doing so," Buff Frog said.
"Huh? You didn't tell her you were leaving?" Buff Frog asked.
"I had to once my daughter send letter to her, but it was tough good-bye," Buff Frog said.
"Look, I understand if you want a new life, so I will leave you out of any conversation if I can help it," Marco said. "But I do need to get Star. I'll bring her here so we can pick up Amity and maybe help get Luz, King and Eda home. Actually, we can get Marcy's friends home too."
"Uh...that's not necessary, you don't need to go through that trouble for us," Marcy nervously said. "Plus we have the Calamity Box, it'd be disappointing if we went through all that trouble and didn't get to use it."
"Uh, I don't think your friends care that much," Marco said. "I mean-"
"Just...trust me on this," Marcy said. "Besides, this might be abrupt for Anne, she did bond with The Plantars, just give us time."
Marco shrugged it off, "Your call."
Buff Frog opened the portal, "This should bring you straight to Mewni Castle."
"Sweet," Marco turned to Marcy. "Wanna come see Mewni?"
"Do I!" Marcy excitedly said, grabbing Marco by the wrist. "Let's go!"
"Hey wait up!" Marco shouted as he got pulled through the portal.
"Huh, excitable young girl, has energy like Star Butterfly, seems just as secretive too. Is she hiding something?"
"Wait up!" Came the voice of Ivy, running as fast as she could through the portal. "Don't mind me, friend of Marcy, stop by Felicia's Tea Shoppe!"
Ivy went through the portal just as it closed, leaving Buff Frog confused, "Not sure what to make of that. Though tea does sound nice, I take girl up on offer."
Marco and Marcy ended up at Butterfly Castle, right in the front doors, the latter looking up in awe.
"That castle's amazing!" Marcy said. "So many swirls and shapes!"
"Cool isn't it?" Marco said. "I was pretty impressed the first time I saw it too. Then I saw King Andrias's castle. I mean they're both amazing, in their own ways."
"Yeah, that castle is more aquatic looking," Marcy said.
"Right, really fits the theme," Marco said. "Anyway we should head inside and find Star."
"I'm quite eager to meet Star, is she a humble Princess?" Marcy asked.
"Well she's not a snob, but she does have her moments when she can be a bit full of herself," Marco said.
"Boy does that sound interesting," Came Ivy's voice, the girl right behind the two. "Sup?"
"Huh? Wait aren't you that little frog girl we saw before!?" Marco asked.
"Hey, hope you don't mind, but I followed you through that portal, wanted to see what this world was like," Ivy said. "Looks pretty neat."
"Ivy, I'm not sure if you should be here," Marcy said.
"Well I have no way of going back home," Ivy said. "So I guess you're both stuck with me."
Marcy groaned in annoyance, but she couldn't blame Ivy too much, she had an adventurous spirit, something she can relate to. "Just stick close to us."
"Yeah, some mewmans can be a bit...judgy toward non-mewmans," Marco said.
"That sounds mean," Marcy said.
"It's broken, I know," Marco said. "Come on, let's hurry. Throne room isn't too far away."
Marco led the girls through the castle, toward the throne room, passing by several guards along the way. Of course they recognized Marco and allowed him passage, but seemed a bit suspicious of his two cohorts, especially Ivy, the young frog girl kind of sensing the tension.
"Feels like they're gazing at me," Ivy said.
"Ignore them, no one will do anything, not while I'm around," Marco said.
Eventually they arrived at the throne room, Marco knocking on the door and awaiting an answer. "I hope Star wasn't too worried about me."
"She'll be happy to see you, regardless," Marcy said.
The door was opened by Janna, the girl's eyes widening at the sight of the boy before her, "There you are, Star's been looking for you. Where have you been?"
"Hey Janna, long story," Marco said.
Janna took note of Marcy, "Uh...did Amity change appearance or something? Or did you happen to stumble across another girl to add to your growing harem?"
"Janna!" Marco shouted in annoyance while Marcy turned away to hide her blush.
"Was that Marco?" Star asked. Janna opened the door, allowing Star to get a full view of her friend.
"Hey Star, I'm back," Marco casually stated. He was then greeted by a strong hug from his Mewman friend.
"Marco! You're safe!" She pulled away and punched his shoulder. "Don't worry me like that again!"
"Sorry, accidents happened," Marco said, then looked inside the throne room. Tom was there, alongside Kelly, Pony Head, Lilith, Eclipsa, Queen Moon, King River and the Magic High Commission.
"Looks who's finally back," Pony Head commented.
"Thank goodness," Lilith said.
"That boy does so well looking after himself," Eclipsa said.
"That's good, at least he's safely back here," Kelly said.
"Hey Marco, you doing alright?" Tom asked.
"I'm good Tom," Marco said, then turned to Star. "Were you preparing a search party? Was everyone worried about me too?"
"Well, not exactly. I mean, yeah some of us were worried, some with different reasons than others," Star said. "But there's another issue that we need to resolve."
"What issue?" Marco asked.
"YOU!" Came the voice of Hekapoo, the monster girl stomping over towards Marco. "Where the hell have you been!?"
"Oh, hey Hekapoo, were you worried about me too?" Marco asked.
"No! Of course not!" Hekapoo said, almost sounding like she was in denial. "I just needed to know where you've been. On top of that, where's Amity!?"
"She's in another dimension," Marco said.
"I'm sorry, but she's where!?" Hekapoo asked, then took note of Marcy. "Also, who's this!?"
"That's what I wondered too," Janna said.
Star also took note of Marcy, "You're not mewman right? I feel like I would have seen you before."
"No, I'm from Earth, like Marco is," Marcy explained.
Ivy hopped on her shoulder, "Not me, I'm from Amphibia."
"Whoa!" Star shouted, taking a step back while Hekapoo and Janna looked on in surprise.
"A little frog girl, that's dope!" Janna said.
"Yeah, I kind of accidentally got trapped in Amphibia with Amity, we were there the last two nights before I found my way back here," Marco said. "I met Marcy while we were in Amphibia."
"I'm one of three human girls," Marcy said. "Well, four now since Luz is there too."
"Luz? As in Amity's friend?" Star asked.
"Yeah, I'd be happy to bring her here, but I need the scissors," Marco said.
"Where are yours?" Hekapoo asked.
That was the question Marco dreaded, he knew Hekapoo would react poorly, but he also knew making up a story could cause more problems, "Can you promise not to be mad?"
"No, but I can promise to absolutely demolish you if you don't start talking," Hekapoo said.
"Figured you'd say that, worth a shot," Marco said. "I lost them."
"You...WHAT!?" Hekapoo shouted, flames erupting from her body.
"Whelp, she's mad," Rhombulus said.
"Why don't we bring Marco in so he can explain it better," Star said, leading him into the throne room. "You can come to...uh, what's your name?"
"Marcy Wu," The girl greeted.
"And I'm Ivy Sundew," the frog greeted.
Many took note of Marcy, very curious by this girl's presence, especially River and Moon.
"Another human child, how curious," Moon said.
"Gotta say, you have a really nice castle," Marcy said. "And the people here look so human like, how long has this realm existed? What's the monarchy like? Do you have your own natural food? Ones you don't get on Earth?"
"We'd be happy to explain young lady," Queen Moon said, getting her attention. "That will have to wait however."
"Oh, what's wrong? Anything I can do to help?" Marcy asked.
"You just came here and you want to help?" Moon asked, many looking just as confused.
"I love adventure, plus I like the idea of helping others, makes me feel like a hero, like in the books and video games," Marcy said.
"I like her enthusiasm," River said.
"Same here, it's rather adorable," Eclipsa said.
"Marco, maybe you should explain what's been happening," Star suggested.
"Well, Amity and I heard of a place called Amphibia, our curiosity got the better of us and we ended up trapped there," Marco said. "We got ambushed by some guards, I lost my scissors, but thankfully, by sheer luck, Amity's friend Luz was in that dimension. They were already trying to find a way home, then a visitor from this world came by, he let me use his scissors and now I'm here. I just need you to open another portal so we can grab Amity, Luz, King and Eda."
"You saw my sister?" Lilith asked. "Is she doing well?"
"Yeah, she's fine," Marco said. "Gotta say, she's full of great vibes."
"She's super nice too, she has that motherly personality to her," Marcy said.
"Sounds like Eda, the typical spunky mom," Lilith said. "I'm glad she, Luz and King are well."
"My friend Anne's been keeping them company," Marcy said.
"Anne? Another human girl?" Star asked.
"Yeah, she's really nice," Marco said.
"She's the best, she, Sasha and I are a trio of besties," Marcy said.
"Anne's the type of girl who looks like a weakling, but she knows when to kick butt when she needs to," Ivy said.
"How strong would you say she is?" Tom asked. "Like, could she handle witches?"
"Witches?" Marcy asked.
"Yeah, that's the problem we ran into," Star said. "Though, I guess we're going to need to explain this to Amity as well."
"Sure, just let me use the scissors so I can make the portal to Amphibia," Marco said. "We'll pick Amity up, along with Luz, Eda and King. You can finally have a chance to meet them, Star."
"Is that alright with you, mom?" Star asked.
"Sure, just be careful," Moon said.
"She'll be fine, it's a nice friendly place," Marco said, readying the portal, "Let's move."
Back in Amphibia, Anne, Luz and Amity were searching around for Marco and Marcy, surprised neither of the two were at the Plantar home.
"Where could they have gone?" Anne wondered.
"Think they went to find us? Or Sasha?" Luz asked.
"They're probably not too far from here, maybe someone's seen them," Amity said.
Luz looked around and spotted a familiar frog in the distance, "Hey Maddie! Have you seen Marcy and a boy?"
Maddie looked to Luz, "No, can't say I have." She took note of Amity's presence, "Who's the new girl?"
"I'm Amity," the witch greeted.
Maddie walked over, observing Amity, "Are you a witch by any chance?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?" Amity asked.
"Your ears, they look like Eda's," Maddie said, Amity feeling that part of her.
"Nice observation," Amity said. "I am indeed a witch, and friends with Luz."
"You're from The Boiling Isles then, I'm really interested in that place," Maddie said.
"You are?" Amity asked.
"Maddie here is Amphibia's own witch, but she uses potions rather than actual magic," Luz said.
"Oh, a potion user," Amity said. "That's not a bad field actually. I'm more partial to summoning magic."
"A summoner? Like monsters or demons?" Maddie asked.
"Something like that," Amity said, showing off a bit of her abomination, much to Maddie's delight.
"Incredible," the witch frog said.
"Sorry to interrupt, but we do need to find Marco and Marcy," Anne said. "Then hopefully Sasha."
"Well I saw Sasha going into the woods with a guitar," Maddie said.
"She's probably practicing for a solo performance," Anne said. "Hopefully she can change her mind about being in the band."
Moments later, a portal opened nearby, getting the attention of the girls. Suddenly Marco had stepped through, holding a pair of Dimensional Scissors. "Sweet, made it."
"Marco!" Amity said, getting his attention. "You found the scissors!?"
"No, these are Star's," Marco said, gesturing to the oncoming girl.
"Hey Amity, I missed you the last couple of days," Star said.
"Oh, Star," Amity said, embracing her in a hug briefly. "Sorry for worrying you."
"Mistakes happen, don't sweat it," Star said.
"Seriously? You punched me in the shoulder for it!" Marco said, earning an eye roll from Star.
"Well, I'm glad you're both alright, that's all that matters to me," Star said.
"Are you Star Butterfly?" Luz asked, getting her attention.
"Yeah, that's me, would you happen to be Luz by any chance?" Star asked.
"That's me, I'm Luz Noceda, thanks for looking after Amity while she was in your world," Luz said.
"Marco did more than I did, but I appreciate the gratitude," Star said. "It's really nice to finally meet you. Amity told me a lot about you, so did Lilith."
Within moments, Marcy stepped through the hole as well, looking around, "Wow, we're actually back in Amphibia, multiverse travel is so cool!"
"Marcy? Where were you?" Anne asked.
"Oh, is this your friend Marcy?" Star said. "Sorry, didn't mean to forget you."
"It's fine, big reveals happening, easy to be distracted," the big haired girl said. "I'm Anne Boonchuy by the way, it's nice to meet you Star."
"Same," Star said. "Uh, you have a couple of leaves in your hair by the way, and a twig."
"Oh yeah, that's normal," Anne said, confusing Star a moment.
"Star," Came Tom's voice as he stepped through the portal, alongside Kelly and Pony Head. "Did you get everyone."
"This place looks so rural," Kelly observed.
"And dirty," Pony Head commented.
"Who's he?" Amity asked.
"Oh, Amity, this is my boyfriend, Tom!" Star greeted. "Tom, that's Amity."
"Oh, hi Amity, nice to formally meet you," Tom said.
"Same here, I'm Kelly," the Woolett greeted.
"And I'm Pony Head, Star's BFF," the floating horse head introduced
"Uh...cool," Amity said. "These girls are Luz and Anne."
"Oh wow, I like her hair," Kelly said, gesturing to Anne.
"Thanks, appreciate that," Anne said.
"This is quite the get together," Luz said. "I wish Willow and Gus were here to make it feel complete."
"We can go find them," Amity said. "With the scissors, it shouldn't be too hard."
"Hold on a second!" Came Hekapoo's voice as she stormed through the portal. "Witch girl!"
"Oh great..." Amity lamented.
"You have some nerve leaving Mewni, you were to stay where we could keep an eye on you!" Hekapoo said.
"What are you, my babysitter?" Amity asked. "Things happened and I got stuck here."
"Also, I hear Marco lost the scissors, you didn't have anything to do with that, did you?" Hekapoo asked.
"For what possible reason would I have to want to get rid of the scissors?" Amity asked. "I'd be stuck here too."
"You're a witch, you probably know the magic to create a portal for all I know," Hekapoo said.
"I can't make that type of magic! Belos barely could, and he's stronger than I am!" Amity said.
"Assuming you're not working for him," Hekapoo said.
"Uh, who is this?" Luz asked, this getting Hekapoo's attention. "Why is she yelling at you Amity?"
"Another witch?" Hekapoo asked. "No, you're no witch, you're a human."
"Technically I'm a witch in training," Luz said. "Anyway that doesn't answer my question, who are you?"
"Hekapoo, guardian of the portals," the girl said. "I take it you're that friend Amity mentioned having. How did you even travel to this Dimension? Or The Boiling Isles?"
"I took a door to get to The Boiling Isles," Luz said. "Then created a portal to this realm by accident."
"You created a portal!?" Hekapoo asked. "How!?"
"I used a book, but the portal didn't work, it was supposed to take me to Earth, it brought me here instead," Luz said. "I can't control where the portals go."
"My advice, don't mess with something humans aren't meant to control," Hekapoo said, then turned to Anne. "What about you? I take it you're friends with that Marcy girl, how did you end up in this world?"
"A magical music box brought me and my friends to Amphibia," Anne said.
"Magical Music Box?" Hekapoo asked, almost as if remembering something. "Where did you find it?"
"Some thrift store in my hometown," Anne said.
Hekapoo rubbed her chin in wonder, "Something's off, but that has to wait. I don't have too much time to question any of you, or tear into Marco and Amity for their trouble."
"What trouble!?" Luz asked.
"Don't worry about it Luz, it's nothing," Amity said.
"Before things get out of hand, Star, maybe you should explain what's happening," Marco said.
"Yeah, of course," Star said. "Luz, Amity, it's about Emperor Belos."
"What about him?" Amity asked.
"He's begun an invasion of Mewni," Star explained, earning a look of surprise from the two girls.
"Belos is invading? How?" Luz asked.
"I don't know, but somehow he's gotten portals opened to our world," Star said. "My Kingdom is on the brink of war."
"This is terrible, we gotta do something!" Luz said. "We can't let Belos invade Mewni!"
"But why does he want Mewni?" Amity wondered. "What does he have to gain?"
"Probably the magic," Luz said. "Don't worry Star, I'll get Eda and we'll help you protect your Kingdom."
"Same here," Amity said.
"And me!" Marcy said. "I'm in."
"Can you even do anything? You don't look that strong," Hekapoo said.
"Hey, I'm plenty strong, I'm an adventurer!" Marcy said, hoisting her arm and accidentally firing the crossbow into the air, landing down several feel away.
"AH!" Came the familiar voice of King. "Oh God, my life just flashed before my eyes!"
"Marcy! Was that you!?" Came Polly's voice.
Everyone turned to Marcy, glares ranging from concern to annoyance among them, the girl sheepishly hiding her crossbow, "Accidents happen."
"Like I said, useless," Hekapoo said.
"Hey, don't brush us off just yet," Anne said. "Luz, Marco, help me rally our friends, we're going to save a Kingdom."
"So no performance tonight then?" Marco asked.
"This is more important, the Sasha and The Sharps reunion will have to wait," Anne said.
"Listen, just so you know, you don't have to help," Star said. "This isn't your battle."
"She's right, you barely know us," Marco said. "Maybe you should both stay here where it's safe."
"Not a chance, I'm going too," Marcy said.
"Same, if Luz wants to help, well I want to be by her side," Anne said, earning a blush from Luz, and a jealous look from Amity. "Plus, me and my friends are going home soon, so one last adventure couldn't hurt."
Marcy stood next to Marco, "Let me fight by your side, I'll feel better if I know I can help keep you safe."
"Oh, um...sure, Marcy," Marco said, sheepishly turning away, earning a confused reaction from Star.
"Alright, let's round up our allies and save Mewni from an evil Emperor," Tom said.
"Let's spread out," Anne said, going with Luz and Marco to find their friends, and start their plan to save Mewni.
Star looked worried, but she felt a reassuring hand on her shoulder from Amity, "We'll save your Kingdom, prove you are indeed the Princess it deserves."
"Thanks Amity, in spite of everything, it's good that the one true thing in my life are my Loyal Friends," Star said. She looked to the stars above, determined to make things right. "We will save my Kingdom."
