Chapter 467: [465] Captive
That morning, as usual, August was passing the time idly when he suddenly sensed unfamiliar presences.
A faint smirk tugged at his lips. Finally, the Black Death Faction had arrived. August had been growing impatient waiting for them.
Today, at this hour, Natsuki was teaching a class, leaving August alone. Astalotte had been taken along with her, and others like Sayaka were out—apparently dealing with some business for the Lion King Organisation.
August had never restricted the freedom of the four girls from the Lion King Organisation—Himeragi, Sayaka, Yuiri, and Shio.
He knew full well that even though they'd been assigned to him, their ties to the organisation remained intact. But August didn't care. No matter how much ants schemed, they couldn't topple a dragon.
His unshakable confidence stemmed from one thing: absolute trust in his own power.
Beyond that, August was also waiting—waiting for the transformation he'd long anticipated.
The World Tree sapling, which he'd brought into this world, had been released into the deep ocean beneath Itogami Island. It was slowly devouring the world's essence.
This world was far stronger than the one in Akame ga Kill, so consuming it entirely was near impossible.
But siphoning off a portion of its essence? That was doable.
This world wasn't a singular plane, either. Beyond it lay other realms—even the alien spaces where familiars resided.
Naturally, all of these were still part of this world.
As its essence drained, the world as a whole would gradually weaken.
First, the "other worlds" and "alien spaces" would collapse. Then, the "mysteries" of this world would fade bit by bit.
It'd be like the dawn of an age of decline, where cultivation and magic became nearly impossible.
Even ancient beings like the primogenitors, who'd lived since time immemorial, would eventually become mere footnotes in history.
When the mysteries vanished, those at the top of the pyramid—embodiments of that very mysticism—would be the first to go.
At that point, August, as the strongest "mystery" left, would naturally rise as the uncrowned king.
And as the world's overall strength weakened with the loss of its mysteries, August's dominance would only solidify.

Crash~
Suddenly, the infirmary window shattered.
The door burst open moments later, and a group of intruders stormed in. Asagi, who'd been sleeping, jolted awake.
Sitting up, she locked eyes with a tall man in a gray military uniform. Silver fur covered his face, and sharp fangs protruded from his mouth.
He wasn't human—he was a beastman, a type of demon.
"Who are you people? Why are you breaking into Saikai Academy?" Asagi demanded.
Despite the situation, she didn't freeze. She might be a girl, but she wasn't helpless.
Clap~ Clap~
"As expected of the 'Cyber Empress.' You're remarkably calm," a voice said.
Another beastman stepped forward from the group, eyeing Asagi with satisfaction.
"Who are you?"
"The name's Christoph Gardos, current leader of the Black Death Faction."
"The Black Death Faction? That terrorist beastman group from the Warlord's Domain?"
"So you've heard of us."
"What do you want with me?"
Asagi realized then that they weren't here for the academy—they were here for her.
Her mind flashed back to what August had told her yesterday, about that mysterious email and the bizarre encrypted data. It had come from these terrorists. She'd cracked it, and now they'd come for her.
As the Cyber Empress, Asagi's intellect was razor-sharp. She pieced it together in an instant.
"Don't be afraid, Cyber Empress. I won't harm you," Gardos said. "I need your help with something. Once it's done, I'll let you go."
"Help with something? You mean that encrypted file, don't you? What was it?"
"A relic of a prehistoric civilization, excavated from the ninth Mehrgarh site in South Asia. It's said to have destroyed countless cities and civilizations in the past—a weapon created by the gods, Nalakuvera."
"Nalakuvera? You want to revive this ancient weapon?"
"Exactly. What I sent you was just a fragment of the full documentation. I distributed it to renowned hackers worldwide, but you were the only one who cracked it."
Gardos's face lit up with excitement. He was convinced that reviving Nalakuvera would end the era of the primogenitors.
He'd destroy Itogami Island—this so-called "demon sanctuary"—then return to the Warlord's Domain, kill the First Primogenitor, and dismantle the "Sanctuary Treaty" for good.
Asagi glanced around. There were too many of them—escape was impossible.
But since they needed her help, she figured she wasn't in immediate danger. That eased her mind somewhat.
Still, in that moment, she couldn't help wishing for a knight in shining armor to swoop in and save her.
And for a fleeting second, the first person she thought of wasn't Kojou—it was August.
She didn't even realize it herself, but Kojou's presence in her heart had faded, while August's had grown sharper and more vivid.
Under Gardos's coercion, Asagi had no choice but to leave Saikai Academy with the Black Death Faction in a vehicle.
All of this unfolded under August's watchful gaze. He was curious about Nalakuvera, this world's god-killing weapon.
As for Asagi, August wanted her—not for her looks, but for her skills. Whether as Cain's priestess or the Cyber Empress, she was invaluable.
He was eager to see how she'd reactivate Nalakuvera.
In the realm of electronics, Asagi's potential was extraordinary.
