Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Please Forgive Me

Dr. Ye finished eating, and Fu Xingzhou had already changed his clothes, in a white shirt and trousers of exquisite material. His suit jacket hung on his elbow, his figure tall and straight.

A gentleman with clothes on, a wild beast without.

This line flitted through Dr. Ye's mind when she saw him.

"I need to make a trip inland," Fu Xingzhou lifted her chin, his lips pressing and grinding against her soft, reddish lips, tender and focused, evoking the reluctance of a couple's farewell, "I have to find Ah Si."

Dr. Ye had heard that Fu Xingzhou's business inland was also doing very well, but he rarely went there himself, focusing mainly on Ao City Peninsula and the Central Western District of Hong Kong.

"How long will you be gone?" she blurted out, then startled at her own question.

In the past, she never inquired about such matters.

Fu Xingzhou's gaze was noble and liquid, seemingly transparent but unfathomably deep. When he looked at her like this, it made her feel even more nervous.

Despite not having done anything guilty, she instinctively wanted to shy away.

"About half a month," after a brief silence, Fu Xingzhou pinched her cheek, "I'll take you to the hospital first."

Dr. Ye got out of the car by a park some distance away from the hospital.

The downpour from last night had left many flowers and plants in the park flattened.

She tightened the collar of her windbreaker to ensure that no flaws were visible.

The car window next to her rolled down, revealing the man's strikingly handsome face. His long fingers tapped idly against the window edge, making a rhythmic tapping sound, fair enough to make any woman envious.

"Be good while I'm away."

Dr. Ye pursed her lips tightly, her expression wistful.

Thinking back to what he had done in the car just now, she could hardly dare to look at that hand again. If it weren't for the partition, she feared she wouldn't be able to hold her head high ever again.

Not wanting to deal with him, Dr. Ye turned and left.

Only when she no longer felt his gaze behind her did Dr. Ye slowly turn around. The car had already merged into the flow of traffic, out of sight.

"Dr. Ye." Xiao Xiao jogged over with a backpack, "Didn't you drive today? I bought some buns, do you want some?"

"I've already eaten, thank you." They spoke and entered the hospital side by side.

Between the VIP wing and the general ward area, a flower bed was surrounded by a row of wooden benches. The flowers on the bed had been battered and twisted by the wind and rain.

There was a person standing in front of the dilapidated flower bed, their clothes tattered, with swollen cheeks and severely swollen eyelids.

After a careful look, Xiao Xiao suddenly exclaimed, "Isn't that Mr. Jiang?"

The ruckus Jiang Yuan caused at the hospital yesterday was well known. Behind closed doors, all kinds of things were being said, but society's prejudice against women seemed greater; most of the one-sided jeers and criticism targeted Dr. Ye for gold-digging and feigning integrity, with little mention of Jiang Yuan's arrogant and overbearing behavior.

When Jiang Yuan heard the voice, he looked up as if he had seen a savior.

"Dr. Ye." Jiang Yuan, a far cry from his lofty demeanor the day before, all but groveled at Dr. Ye's feet, "I was wrong, I truly was wrong. I was blind and offended Dr. Ye, I deserve to die."

No one knew how he managed to finish all sixty-four orders of fried chicken.

By the end, he was practically throwing up as he ate, wanting nothing more than death.

Last night, he wanted to show off Dr. Ye to his buddies and expand his business inland, but having offended Fu Xingzhou, he was lucky just to be alive, let alone pursue further development in the inland.

Early this morning, he had scrambled to the hospital just to beg for Dr. Ye's forgiveness in person.

Xiao Xiao witnessed this scene and marveled inwardly at how quickly a person could change.

One second a ferocious wolf, the next a groveling cur.

Jiang Yuan spread his arms, blocking Dr. Ye's path. She simply frowned, and he immediately put his hands down.

"I'm sorry, so sorry, Dr. Ye," Jiang Yuan's face oozed appeasement, "Please, as someone above petty concerns, forgive this bastard. I promise there won't be a next time."

It was work hours now, and colleagues were gradually approaching from not too far away.

Dr. Ye didn't want to become the center of attention and provoke criticism again.

"Does Mr. Jiang really think that the harm he's caused others can be resolved with a simple 'sorry'?"

Jiang Yuan was momentarily stunned, as if suddenly realizing something, "Dr. Ye, what do you fancy? Bags, jewelry? Cars? Villas?"

Ye Yan looked at him as if he were mentally challenged.

Only after Jiang Yuan had finished did he realize how stupid he sounded; after all, Ye Yan was Fu Xingzhou's woman. With a big-shot like him, would she be lacking any of those?

"Retract the harm you've caused, and maybe then I will consider Mr. Jiang's apology," Ye Yan didn't want to dawdle with him and left him with those words as she walked away with Xiao Xiao.

Ye Yan had been busy all morning, so busy she hadn't even had a sip of water.

It wasn't until Xiao Xiao called her for lunch that she rubbed her somewhat stiff neck and put aside the medical records she was holding.

They got their food at the window and found a seat by the window.

After a while, Chai Chen and Xie Yang also joined them.

"Dr. Ye, how come you're eating so little?" Xie Yang observed the pitiful amount of rice on Ye Yan's plate.

Ye Yan felt embarrassed to say that she had overeaten at the hotpot yesterday and simply wanted to clear out her stomach.

"You're not trying to diet, are you?" Chai Chen asked with concern, "You're so slim already, there's nothing much to lose, and unhealthy dieting methods can backfire."

"I just don't have much of an appetite," Ye Yan found an excuse with some difficulty.

"Is it because of Jiang Yuan?" Xiao Xiao spoke up, "I haven't had the chance to tell you, but today Jiang Yuan has been going everywhere in the hospital explaining that what happened yesterday was just a spiteful act of revenge because his love was unreciprocated."

Ye Yan was at a loss for words.

"Really, he's been repeating it to anyone he catches, not even sparing the cleaning lady or the trash-collecting uncle."

"And you know what, he even went on explaining frantically to a child of a patient's family; that kid thought he was starving and kindly offered him his fried chicken. Ends up, he threw up right on the spot," Xiao Xiao recalled the scene with disgust.

Ye Yan: ...

"I knew Dr. Ye couldn't be that kind of person," Xie Yang reflected on having argued in an online group chat yesterday and suddenly felt vindicated, "Jiang Yuan got what he deserved; it's like even the heavens can't stand it."

Ye Yan never expected Jiang Yuan would go to such lengths; he must be truly terrified of Fu Xingzhou.

After work, Jiang Yuan appeared again like a ghost.

"Dr. Ye, are you satisfied? If you don't think it's enough, I can continue..."

"I've forgiven you already," Ye Yan was exasperated.

Her reputation had been restored. The dean had even issued a hospital-wide announcement to clarify the situation for her. Those who wanted to see a spectacle ended up disappointed.

But Ye Yan was well aware that the only thing that could make a wealthy heir like Jiang Yuan stoop so low was someone of even greater influence.

If one day she lost the protection of Fu Xingzhou...

Or if one day, Fu Xingzhou became one of them...

"That's great, that's great," Jiang Yuan was relieved, and after hesitating, he cautiously requested, "Could you please tell Mr. Jiang about this for me?"

See, that was his main concern; she was nothing but a fox standing before a tiger.

"I will," she said.

Jiang Yuan smiled, yet he didn't move an inch.

Ye Yan helplessly took out her phone in front of him and quickly sent a message to Fu Xingzhou. After sending it, she showed him the screen.

Only then did Jiang Yuan leave satisfied, thanking her profusely.

At that moment, a couple walked by, arm in arm, the girl playfully whining, "Honey, I want some fried chicken."

Before Ye Yan could even react, she saw Jiang Yuan suddenly rush to the roadside and hug a tree, vomiting uncontrollably.

Ye Yan: ...

She suggested Jiang Yuan go see a psychologist; these symptoms were almost certainly due to acute stress disorder.
