Chapter 28: Chapter 24

The Vertacines were gaining.

Fast.

Alex's wings pounded the air as he cut across the floating terrain of Hollow Earth, but he could feel the electric buzz creeping closer. He glanced ahead—and cursed.

Warbats. Five of them.

They were cruising around in the air and screeching . If they caught sight of him being chased by a flock of lightning-charged sky demons, they'd scatter in an instant and he wouldn't blame them.

"Damn it… can't lose this opportunity," Alex growled.

The warbats were prime prey. Big EV payoffs. Letting the escape now only to waste time looking for them later? ,that would be stupid.

He changed tactics.

With a sudden dive, he dropped behind a massive cliff wall, vanishing from the Vertacines' line of sight. He flared his wings and clung to the rock face like a bat, folding himself into the stone's shadow. Then he activated his camouflage—his scales shimmering and blending with the cliff like liquid stone.

The Vertacines zipped past overhead, unaware.

Once they were gone, Alex dislodged from the cliff and silently pursued them, wings half-open, gliding in silence.

One of them was trailing behind.

He closed in and—SNAP!

A clean kill. The Vertacine didn't even see it coming.

Ding! You have hunted a Vertacine — +2000 EVs. Vertacine genetics detected. Do you wish to integrate?

"Integrate!" Alex answered instantly.

But it was too late to sneak away.

The others had noticed. The vertacines at the back of the flock banked sharply and turned back, screeching and attracting the attention of the rest of the flock as their wings sparked with volatile electricity.

Alex braced for impact, his momentum was carrying him straight towards them.

They hit him like a storm.

Lightning danced across his scales as the bio-electric shocks paralyzed him mid-air. Muscles seized. Wings locked. His body crashed to the ground , carving a crater into the earth.

Then came the pain.

The Vertacines descended, clinging to him, discharging surge after surge of crackling current into his body.

But something was changing.

The integration had begun.

Deep inside, Alex's nervous system flared—generating its own electrical current. Arcs of blue energy sparked across his body. His eyes snapped open, glowing an eerie cobalt blue. The electricity no longer burned him. It answered him.

His muscles twitched. Then flexed. Then surged.

And with a thunderous ROAR, he released it all.

BOOM!

A flash of blinding light tore through the sky as a wave of bio-electricity exploded outward from his body like a detonation. Vertacines were flung away, their bio electrical resistant bodies overwhelmed and smoking.

When the smoke cleared, only a few of them remained, fleeing in panic.

The rest had been blasted away but still alive but paralysed for a while.

Ding!

You have killed Vertacines +2000 +2000 +2000 +2000 +2000 +2000 +2000

Alex panted, smoke drifting off his scales, arcs of electricity crackling along his spine.

Although it had been painful—excruciating even—it was worth it.

Alex shook the dust from his wings and flexed his muscles, still crackling faintly with residual electricity. His body ached, but his mood was soaring. Not only had he survived, he had gained something far better than just EVs.

He had gained a cool new ability—and with it, a new path to power.

"System interface," Alex thought.

Before Alex could celebrate further, a shrill screeching split the air.

Again with the screeching…

He was starting to hate animals that screech

He turned sharply—five Warbats were diving toward him. The blast of lightning and slaughtered Vertacines had lured them in like blood in the water.

"Bring it."

Alex took to the skies without hesitation, wings slicing through the wind. His claws extended like a hunting eagle. He flew straight at them.

Clang!

He collided mid-air with the lead Warbat, catching it in his claws. The impact slammed both of them into the side of a cliff, dislodging rocks and dust in a crashing cloud.

Without wasting a moment, Alex bit into its neck, tearing through sinew and cartilage as greenish ichor sprayed across his face. The Warbat thrashed once—and went still.

Ding you have hunted warbats +7000 EVs

One down.

He let the corpse fall as he turned to face the others.

Just like he'd predicted, the four remaining Warbats circled and launched a pincer assault, gliding from all directions like coordinated predators.

Alex narrowed his eyes.

"So that's your play?"

He beat his wings and shot straight up into the sky, the Warbats trailing behind him with screeches and flared frills. They weren't as fast—Warbats didn't truly fly, they glided on thermals, relying more on ambush than aerial agility.

He climbed high.

Then tucked his wings.

And dived.

The Warbats gave chase, jaws snapping and wings spread wide. But Alex wasn't aiming to outrun them.

He was leading them.

Down below, a mountain peak jutted from the jungle like a fang. Alex spread his wings at the last second and landed hard, claws gouging deep into the stone. Dust rolled down the slopes as he spun to face his pursuers.

The Warbats descended.

Alex's body began to spark.

Arcs of bioelectricity flickered across his scales, dancing from his spines to the tips of his wings. His entire frame began to glow with an eerie blue-white shimmer, the charge building like a storm about to break.

The Warbat in the lead hesitated—its instincts screamed at it to pull away.

It obeyed.

But the second one… couldn't see the danger until it was too late.

It screeched in confusion—

BOOM!

A blast of electricity erupted from Alex's body like a detonation of lightning. The ground scorched black. Dust exploded outward. Rocks split. The lead Warbat was thrown aside. The unlucky one behind him caught the full brunt of the discharge and was launched backward, smoking and twitching in the air before it crashed down into the jungle below.

Ding! You have killed Warbat — +4000 EVs.

The remaining two Warbats recovered mid-air—but they didn't come back.

They turned and fled without hesitation, screeching in alarm as they vanished into the misty skies.

Alex's body crackled with fading arcs of lightning. He exhaled through his nostrils, smoke trailing from his breath.

Cowards.

He watched them for half a second—then launched into the air, wings catching the wind with thunderous force.

They weren't going to get away.

Meanwhile… at Monarch

Inside Monarch HQ, tension hung heavy in the air.

"We've lost track of the Black Wyvern," Serizawa said grimly, his eyes fixed on the large screen filled with static and error messages. "It's been over two months. And a week, exactly, since he entered the storm surrounding Skull Island. All surveillance drones we sent in lost contact the moment they breached the perimeter."

No signal. No visuals.

Some among the higher-ups speculated that Kong might have killed the wyvern. Others believed he'd simply vanished.

'It will show up eventually 'serizawa thought.

He refused to believe that the black wyvern could have been killed by Kong or any large creature in skull island,it is too smart for that.

Back in Hollow Earth

The hunt wasn't over.

Alex surged forward through the air, wings cutting the wind as he closed the distance between himself and the fleeing Warbat. With a sharp thrust of his talons, he snatched the serpent-like creature midair, and they tumbled together, wings flailing and tails lashing.

The Warbat shrieked and coiled around Alex's body like a constrictor, sinking its fangs into the base of his wing to no affect.

Alex snarled biting down on its spine, his jaws cracking through the tough hide. They spiraled downward in a diagonal crash-course with the jungle below.

BOOM.

They slammed into the ground, the impact scattering dust and flattening foliage. They skidded across the terrain in a tangle of wings and limbs, leaving a deep trench in their wake.

Then—

Crunch.

Alex ended it with a final, brutal bite to the skull.

The Warbat's twitching ceased.

Ding! You have hunted a Warbat — +7000 EV Points, the one he had targeted was the biggest amongst them.

Alex rose, victorious. The fight had been disappointing the remaining warbats had managed to escape, but atleast the rewards were starting to pile up.

End of chapter.
