Chapter 23: Chapter 20
Jonas groaned as he dragged himself from the shallow surf, blood dripping from his temple, ribs aching with every breath. The force from Alex's tail strike—meant for Monte's—had launched him like a ragdoll. He could already tell something was broken. Maybe a rib. Maybe two.
Behind him, the ocean churned with red-streaked foam.
On the beach, Jiuming stood frozen, staring at the massive, limp body of Haiqi.
Her belly was torn open, entrails spilling out onto the sand as the tide tried to pull her back. She was no longer the terrifying apex predator of the deep—just a massive corpse, broken and still.
Mac came up beside him, frowning.
"It's just a shark, man. Let it go," he said softly, placing a hand on Jiuming's shoulder.
"It would've eaten you sooner or later anyway."
Jiuming didn't flinch. His voice was low, hollow.
"You don't understand... we had a bond. She wasn't just a shark."
Mac sighed and nodded. He didn't get it—not really—but now wasn't the time to argue.
"Come on," he said. "Let's get to the othe's and see how they are doing "
Reluctantly, Jiuming turned and followed, the weight of loss heavy on his steps.

Meanwhile, at Monarch HQ.
Footage from the drones played silently across the monitors, looping again and again: Alex soaring away, his wings casting massive shadows over the sea. A ruined pier. And Monte's crushed corpse floating in the water. Jonas crawling out of the water.
Dr. Ishiro Serizawa sat quietly, hands folded, eyes on the screen.
"Black Wyvern is much smarter than we initially assumed," he said at last.
"He avoids humans unless provoked, shows strategic intelligence, and—most importantly—he can tell people apart."
He tapped a button, pausing the feed. The frozen image: Alex glaring at Monte's before delivering death.
"He recognized Monte's as a threat. And spared the other. Jonas was it."
Dr. Houston Brooks leaned forward, thoughtful.
"We made a mistake before. Sending jets after him... He's not like the destroyer titans. He aligns more with Kong. He's more... instinct-driven. Animalistic—but not mindless. He hunts when hungry. Fights when challenged. But otherwise? He just wants to be left alone."
Serizawa nodded slowly.
"We should observe. Not interfere. If we're lucky, he'll stay that way."
The screen shifted again. A new feed. A satellite tracking path.
Black Wyvern was heading west again.
> Toward Skull Island.
And Monarch could only watch.
It took Alex nearly six hours of relentless flying—crossing the vast Pacific, weaving above clouds and beneath stars—before he finally saw it.
A wall of darkness.
The sky ahead churned with storm clouds, black and boiling like a living thing. Lightning forked through the heavens, flashing brilliant white against the backdrop of endless gray. Thunder rolled, deep and primal, echoing across the ocean like a war drum.
He had arrived.
Skull Island.
Alex hovered before the edge of the tempest, his wings beating slow and steady. The storm coiled around the island like a serpent guarding its nest. Rain lashed in chaotic spirals. Visibility was near zero. From above, it looked like a cursed patch of ocean—a place untouched by time, forgotten by the world.
But Alex didn't hesitate.
He dived into the storm.
Lightning danced around his wings, illuminating the silhouette of his massive form as he soared through turbulent winds. Rain hammered against his scales. Thunder cracked so close it felt like it could shatter bone.
Minutes passed like hours, but eventually—light.
He broke through the far edge of the storm wall and what greeted him was nothing short of breathtaking.
Lush, unspoiled wilderness stretched as far as his enhanced eyes could see. Towering cliffs rose from mist-shrouded valleys. Mountains sliced the sky. Ancient trees—some as tall as city buildings—covered the island in a sea of emerald green. Strange, avian beasts flew in flocks above the canopy, their calls echoing through the air.
This place felt... untamed. Alive. Like every corner of it was hiding something dangerous, something ancient.
Alex circled once, casting his shadow across a thundering waterfall, before descending toward the dense forest below.
He had made it.
But Skull Island didn't welcome guests.
And something told him the creatures of the island knew he was here.
--
He hovered in place, wings stretched wide, suspended in the sky.
He scanned the terrain.
So far, the only creatures on the island that caught his attention were the Skullcrawlers—those grotesque, lizard-like abominations that slithered beneath the earth—and the giant water buffalo lounging near swamps and riverbanks, their mossy backs blending into the scenery like breathing hills. He couldn't recall their names… but it didn't matter. They were passive, slow, and unchallenging. They weren't worth the effort and besides Kong favoured those guys.
The Skullcrawlers though…
They were predators.
Ugly. Dangerous. Aggressive.
Perfect.
Alex flapped his wings once, slow and deliberate, stirring the trees below. He wasn't here for fun. This was a calculated hunt. These creatures would make excellent targets for strengthening his combat skills, for sharpening his instincts—and for gaining more EV points and genetic traits.
Besides, he thought with a flicker of satisfaction, this would do the Iwi people a favor. Fewer Skullcrawlers meant more safety for the locals—and perhaps fewer problems when he inevitably has to fly over their sacred lands again.
And Kong?
Yeah, that was the only wildcard here.
Alex narrowed his eyes toward the mountains in the distance.
He wasn't here for a death match. Not with him. Kong was territorial, protective, and powerful enough to demand respect. If the big ape showed up, Alex would simply fly off—fast, high, gone. Simple. He didn't need to prove anything maybe when he was a titan but for now hell naw ,he would stand his ground for what ? Just to get folded nah.
But Skullcrawlers?
They're fair game he had come mostly for them.
With a low rumble of anticipation building in his chest, Alex tilted forward and began his descent, scanning for tunnels, and signs of disturbance in the trees. His eyes glinted with a predatory gleam as he dropped down .until something caught his attention—a clearing riddled with gaping, unnatural holes smocking with methane.
He knew exactly what this was.
Skullcrawler nests.
He circled once overhead, then descended with purpose. His wings folded neatly against his body, becoming arms as he dropped into a quadrupedal stance. The ground shook under his weight. He stomped once—BOOM—and dragged his claws through the dirt, slashing deep gouges. His tail thrashed behind him, flattening brush and cracking a nearby boulder.
Then he let out a thunderous roar—a bellow that echoed through the trees like a natural disaster announcing itself.
The jungle went still.
Then…
HSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Low, gutteral hissing rose from the dark holes. Shadows began to slither out. One by one, Skullcrawlers emerged, tails whipping, jaws snapping with rage. Their bone-white skull-like heads reflected the jungle's green canopy as their long, serpentine bodies unwound across the soil, forming a half-circle around Alex like predators circling a rival.
He snorted and stood taller, unbothered.
Then—
BOOM.
One of the largest holes erupted in a violent burst of soil and stone. Dirt rained down as something massive crawled out.
It was twice the size of the others. Its musculature was thicker, and its jaw visibly stronger. Scars ran along its flanks, and had spike's on its elbows. It hissed louder than the rest, baring yellowed fangs.
The new Alpha.
Not quite as large as the one Kong had once slain, but not far off. Clearly, this one had risen to power in the chaos left behind.
Alex's eyes narrowed.
Good.
He spread his wings wide, not to take off—but to make himself look bigger. A clear, primal message:
"I'm not here to run. I'm here to dominate."
The jungle held its breath. Predator faced predator. The battle for dominance was about to begin.
He then folded his wings and crouched low in a gorilla-like posture. His eyes scanned the shadows slithering toward him.
Twenty-two.
That's how many he counted.
Twenty-one Skullcrawlers varying in size, none exceeding sixteen meters—but at the center, emerging with a hiss that chilled the air, was the Alpha.
Twenty-six meters of muscle, rage, and scars.
It glared at Alex, the white plate on its head cracked from previous battles. It opened its maw and let out a guttural, deafening screech.
The others responded immediately, hissing and shrieking as they charged from all sides.
Alex didn't hesitate. His tail whipped around in a 360-degree spin, a living wrecking ball that smashed through ribs and skulls alike, sending several smaller Skullcrawlers flying like ragdolls.
But they were fast.
They got back up and came again.
One leapt—Alex turned sharply and slammed a folded wing downward like a fist.
CRACK!
Skull shattered on impact.
> Ding! You have killed Juvenile Skullcrawler +4000 EVs.
Another latched onto his wing, teeth trying to saw through scales—but failing. With a flex and a snap of his limb, Alex threw it off like it was nothing, sending it tumbling into a tree.
Two more lunged for his legs.
He responded instantly—tail lashing like a scorpion's sting.
SCHLK! SCHLK!
Direct hits—skewered through the head.
> +4000 EVs
+4000 EVs
But still they came. They began piling onto his back, claws and jaws digging in wherever they could.
Alex roared in fury and twisted his head around, biting one by the torso.
SNAP!
Spine crushed, body flung into its kin like a bowling ball.
+4000 EVs
Still, they overwhelmed him.
Realizing brute force wouldn't be enough, Alex spread his wings wide and with a mighty burst of wind flapped them hard, blasting the smaller Skullcrawlers away like leaves in a storm.
And then—
The Alpha struck.
It lunged and latched onto Alex's back, jaws sinking into the base of his neck while its long tail wrapped tight around his midsection like a constrictor. Alex bucked, shook, snarled—but the Alpha held on like a parasite.
Fine.
Alex let himself fall.
He rolled, his massive body crushing two Skullcrawlers beneath him—BOOM!—and the Alpha finally lost its grip, tumbling off in a hiss of pain.
But before Alex could breathe, the others came again. Their hunger outweighed their fear.
Alex let out a low growl.
He'd had enough.
He leapt into the air—wings wide, tail extended, weight defying gravity.
The Skullcrawlers clinging to him were dragged upward.
He spiraled.
Higher.
300 meters.
Then—he folded his wings and dropped like a meteor.
B O O M !
The earth cracked. A shockwave exploded through the jungle. Trees bowed. Dust erupted skyward like a volcanic blast.
Skullcrawler bodies exploded, flattened beneath his mass.
> Ding! You have hunted Multiple juvenile skull crawlers.

Alex spat out blood and damn is it painfully dive-bombing from such a height last time when he did it to the meg it hadn't been this painfully due to the water slightly cushioning his impact.but this time it hurted like a son of a bitch.he won't be using this move anytime soon his regeneration had already started repairing damaged organs and tissue.
But most of them had survived,'tough bastards'he thought.
