Modern World Warlock

Chapter 412: Primal Magic

The following day, after Yaga had inspected every member of the Jade Dragons who could wield magic, the witch attended the laboratory with both Paige and Wolfram.

The scientist had been working on her own version of Spellcore weapons, but she was also developing the magic she called "quantum magic, and Yaga seemed interested in seeing her progress.

Paige called it "quantum magic" because of its nature. She could wield all different types of magical energy into one, which wasn't something that was easily accomplished, even by some of the most experienced mages in Terra.

Yaga could also use all types of magical energies combined into one spell. However, she called it "Primal Magic" instead, as it was one of the oldest methods of casting.

Before she could continue explaining, Dante and his party arrived at the lab, mentioning that they had been called, and noticed the pair discussing the so-called "Primal Magic."

"Ah, I knew you would be interested in Paige's research," Dante commented.

Baba Yaga wanted to explain further, but Paige noticed that the woman was speaking in the Terran language so that Faelyn could understand. However, the scientist couldn't stand not understanding something, so she promptly stopped the witch from talking for a moment.

Paige quickly left the training room and returned not even thirty seconds later, holding a strange, triangular device in her hands.

"Wolfram copied the entire English dictionary and translated it to the Terran language," Paige briefly explained, gazing at Wolfram, who seemed exhausted from typing words.

Fortunately, since she was in the body of an android, she could keep working throughout the night and finish it much faster, though it wasn't a task that she particularly enjoyed.

The scientist gently placed the device on Faelyn's ears, and considering that the elf's ears were of a different shape, the device she used had a slightly different design to avoid discomfort.

Sylas and Soren also wore the small device on their ears, prompting Paige to fully explain its features.

The device was called a "brain-wave translator," and it would detect any sound wave and translate it into their mother language. The wearers wouldn't notice immediately, but slowly, they would retain the English language in their brains.

Paige told the group that, before going to sleep, they had to press the "sleep-mode" button on the device, which would then recite the entire dictionary at an extremely high speed.

Normally, it would be impossible for anyone to retain the information of the sleep mode while they were awake, since the brain had plenty of other functions to complete. However, when they were sleeping, they would passively learn the language, as the device would continuously send artificial "brainwaves" to their heads.

Dante pondered whether the device was safe, thinking that having something that continually stimulated the brain for days could have side effects. Nevertheless, Paige cleared all his doubts, revealing that she had been using the translator for some time.

The scientist had completed the device months ago and had used it to learn every single language in the world, so she was absolutely certain that the translator worked.

Since she needed a whole dictionary of the language she wanted to learn, she had to wait for Wolfram to finish her job to add it to the device.

Now that everyone was able to communicate freely, Yaga called both Dante and Faelyn while pointing her finger at them, asking them to join the research and saying that "they should also learn how to control such magic."

Faelyn looked interested, as one of the most common features of a wizard was their indomitable curiosity and eagerness to learn.

While the elf was still slightly overwhelmed from all the information about Earth that she had to digest, she couldn't hide her interest in primal magic.

Dante, on the other hand, scratched the back of his head and let out a tired sigh, wondering if it was truly necessary for him to be there.

Yaga became much more serious than usual, explaining that all of Nekxis' leaders were adept at using primal magic. Dante was undoubtedly one of the best mages in both worlds when it came to using umbra, but his mana control was at the level of a decent wizard, and he could only use ether when channeling his beloved's powers.

"You could probably survive an encounter against one of the leaders with your current skills. But if you were ambushed by two, you'd die," Yaga said, glaring at the warlock with serious determination.

Resigned to his fate and knowing that he wouldn't be relaxing in his hammock any time soon, Dante reluctantly agreed to join their research so that he could at least try to control primal magic by himself.

"Since our lifespan is back to normal, I suppose I should take better care of it," Dante commented, and his words caught the attention of his entire party.

Soren and Sylas had been standing on the side of the room, listening to their conversation with the translation device in their ears. Then, they instantly started to inspect their bodies.

"Wait… When did this happen?" Faelyn pondered aloud, her eyes slightly widened in shock.

"Y-You guys didn't notice?" Dante asked, wondering if they had been so distracted as to overlook something so important.

"Aelara's blessing… is gone!" Sylas spoke up, and while half of his face was covered by the black fabric around his head, his eyes showed a hint of happiness and satisfaction.

"HAHAHAHA, YESSSSS!" Soren loudly shouted, making the walls of the room tremble a little.

"Congratulations. You are all mortal once again," Yaga interrupted the celebration.

It could have been strange for others to see the party being so happy about the fact that they were now able to grow old. However, the "blessing" they had received from Aelara came at a price.

They couldn't defy the goddess' orders or rebel against her. They could only follow her will and fight her enemies.

Freed from Aelara's shackles, Dante and his party not only felt happy, but they also had a tinge of vengeance flowing within them, solely targeted at the supposed goddess.
