Chapter 410: The Witch's Speech
After Baba Yaga utterly rejected Gabriel's infatuation, the angel silently and dejectedly walked to one of the chairs in the auditorium and sat down with his head low.
The angel thought that he had done something that offended the witch, and as he pondered the reason, Yaga introduced herself to the members present in the room.
Some of them were shocked that the woman was the witch from the tales, and while they knew that it was hard to believe, it wasn't impossible, considering all the supernatural stuff they had witnessed until then.
It took the witch a bit of time to explain everything. The ancient land of Atlantis, the creation of Terra and its gods, the Younger Dryas, time travel, the convergence, etc.
Most of the spectators were listening attentively in silence, trying to cram all of the information into their brains. However, Paige couldn't keep herself together when so much knowledge was being poured into her head.
With her eyes beaming, she asked question after question. The talk switched back and forth between magic and scientific theories, which only confused the rest of the spectators in the room.
Still, in the end, Camille raised her hand and asked the question she thought was the most important. "What is your objective?"
As someone who had met with Dante's parents and teacher, Yaga could have easily been considered a member of the Jade Dragons if she wanted it. Moreover, the information she was giving them was invaluable, so the handler wasn't against having Yaga on her side.
The witch explained that, at first, her objective was to survive the Younger Dryas. Then, after safely traveling to the future and seeing how far behind humanity had regressed, she thought it would be interesting to watch their growth.
Needless to say, the witch was not impressed by how the current humans were developing, but she also couldn't intervene since she didn't want the existence of magic to become common knowledge, yet.
"Magic was something that ancient humans discovered after they cast aside their greed, their hunger for power, and their need to dominate—when they began to live not above the world, but as a part of it," Yaga explained.
'I understand… If countries that were at war were using magic along with their modern weapons, this entire world could easily be destroyed.' Dante pondered.
It was thousands of years too early for the humans on Earth to practice magic, which is why Yaga was slightly annoyed when she heard that Dante was awakening the abilities of his team members.
As for her current objective, Yaga's priority was to annihilate the Nekxis organization, which had been messing with the world's order while also researching Atlantean technology.
Paige's eyes lit up after hearing "Atlantean technology," and she pondered if the "spellcore" gadgets were a variation of it, to which Yaga nodded affirmatively.
Spellcore was the name of the technique that combined magic and modern tech.
It was developed after the members of Nekxis found ancient Atlantean machines and used reverse engineering to recreate their own versions.
Yaga said that even the most standard soldiers of Nekxis were trained using Spellcore, so fighting them was like fighting other mages, which made her job much harder, as they had plenty of magic tools that allowed them to escape far from her reach.
'The way she speaks. It's like she is the protector of this world… No wonder the angel dropped to his knees,' Camille thought.
When Yaga was finished with her speech, Camille approached her to talk about an alliance.
The Jade Dragons wouldn't have paid attention to Nekxis if their soldiers hadn't tried to assassinate Dante after his battle with Netherius, but knowing that they were now in their sights, she didn't want to give them the first move.
"I refuse," Yaga declined the handler's invitation, crossing her arms with a scrutinizing gaze.
"Are you sure? We have members capable of fighting their soldiers…" Camille asked, seemingly unfazed by the rejection.
"I didn't come here to join you. I'm here to observe…" the witch replied.
Yaga's plan was to visit the Jade Dragons and study their behavior. Since they were people who had been subjected to magic, she wanted to see if they could be relied on with that information.
If the Jade Dragons used their magic for activities that could hinder the development of the world, she would erase the entire mafia family from the face of the Earth. However, if she deemed them worthy to cast it, she would look the other way and ignore their existence.
The witch's words only solidified Camille's opinion about her being the protector of the world, and the handler was confident that she was not going to be disappointed by their use of magic.
Camille told the witch that she had no problem with her staying at the Jade Palace for as long as she wanted, but she asked Yaga to at least reconsider the alliance after she had come to a conclusion.
"I'll reconsider if I deem your people worthy. But, as of now, you are in the negatives…" Yaga replied, glaring at Gabriel, who kept looking at his two goddesses with admiration.
"So, everyone really hates angels, huh?" Camille asked.
"People have their own reasons. As for me, I don't like them because they are not natural," Yaga replied, prompting the handler to inquire further.
Angels were a "race" of people that were born after Aelara conducted her own magical experiments on the first inhabitants that appeared in Terra.
They were created specifically to serve "the gods," which they recognized as anyone with Atlantean blood.
Since angels didn't appear naturally in the world, they were more akin to a familiar or pet of Aelara, and that was the main reason for the witch's disdain towards Gabriel.
"I see. Then, what about demons?" Camille asked, inquisitively placing a hand on her chin.
Dante, who could hear their conversation, became a little more interested when Camille mentioned demons.
"That's different. The Hell we know is an ancient reflection connected to both Earth and Terra—that's why both worlds share the same Hell…" Yaga explained.
