Modern World Warlock

Chapter 388: Trinity’s Research

After Dante checked on Paige's progress learning to control her magic, he noticed that Wolfram was enthralled, taking notes in a small notebook about 'quantum magic.'

Even when the wizard inhabited the body of an android, which could store all the information she ever encountered, Wolfram couldn't let go of old habits and kept writing her theories in her notebook.

Dante thought about staying there for a few hours, as he also wanted to get a better understanding of quantum magic, but he was interrupted when Trinity rang his phone.

The hacker explained that she had compiled every single piece of information available about the witch, Baba-Yaga. She had even found out that several countries had classified documents describing the witch.

With all the information compiled into one big document, Trinity was able to deduce which were the most current entries about the witch, giving her a hint of the rough location she was in.

There were numerous short stories and documents talking about the witch. However, most of them were hundreds of years old, so Trinity didn't consider them to be useful.

Nevertheless, there were more recent documents that, instead of referring to Baba-Yaga as a witch, she was called an "anomaly" that shouldn't have been present on Earth.

There was a document that was a little over twenty-five years old, and it was the report of an American scientist who was sent to Antarctica to study the marine life under the ice.

In the report, the man explained that he had seen a group of people wearing hoods, and while the fabric covered their bodies, the man could tell that they were not wearing any cold-protecting gear under it.

Antarctica was a solitary place, and the very few people who ever ventured there only interacted with the others who joined their expeditions. For that reason, seeing a small group of people wandering around the deathly cold climate was unheard of.

At first, the American scientist thought that he had seen aliens from outer space, theorizing that they had built their base of operations deep in the Antarctic land, far away from prying eyes.

However, when the man saw a woman with long, white hair following the trail of the hooded individuals, he was utterly speechless.

He described the woman as no older than 40 years old, and she was wearing a winter jacket that was visibly too thin to protect anyone from the extreme Antarctic climate.

The scientist had recorded the sighting in his logbook, and he believed that it would become a great story all around the world. However, when the government received his report, they decided to classify the information, keeping it a secret.

Dante looked a bit surprised when he heard the story. Although he wasn't familiar with Antarctica's environment, he was aware that it wasn't a place that people could simply visit.

Still, that was only the second most current document, as there was another report that a russian citizen had filed to the police.

The document was ten years old, and it talked about a Russian man who ventured into the Siberian tundra forest to hunt.

While searching for his prey, he spotted a small wooden shack that seemed to be in perfect condition, making him wonder if someone was truly living there, dozens of miles away from the closest town.

When the hunter started to approach the shack, he halted and fell on his rear when the home suddenly shook, prompting four mechanical legs to extrude from the base of the structure.

In a matter of a few seconds, the house scurried away at high speeds, leaving him in utter shock.

After the hunter returned to the closest town in the area, he reported the sighting to the police, who seemed unsurprised about his words, as if they had heard the same story before.

In the end, the document was also classified, but that didn't stop Trinity from obtaining it.

Still, while the two stories were interesting to Dante, he didn't understand the relationship between the two.

The first report took place in Antarctica 25 years ago, while the second took place in the Siberian forest a decade ago.

The woman described in the first report wasn't even close to Baba-Yaga's description in other tales.

The American scientist said it was a beautiful woman who wasn't over forty years old, but Baba-Yaga was said to be an old crone, so it didn't make much sense to correlate them.

Trinity clarified and explained that the report about the woman in Antarctica was bundled with other documents relating to Baba-Yaga. It wasn't confirmed that the woman was the witch herself, but considering it was tagged as such, she couldn't ignore it.

"Your best bet would be searching the Siberian tundra forest… But that's a pretty wide range," Trinity explained.

"It's better than nothing… Thanks, Trinity," Dante replied, believing the hacker was finished with her work.

Still, Trinity had other ways to help in his search, as she had hacked her way into the database of a satellite, which apparently recorded the Siberian forest in detail.

If she took advantage of it, they could locate the supposed witch without relying on luck.

Dante smirked, pleased to hear that the hacker still had an ace up her sleeve, accepting her support without a second thought.

While Trinity was still on the phone call with him, Dante made his way to Camille's office to talk about his plans.

When he arrived, he found Camille sitting on her office's couch, with Cerberus sleeping on her lap while Asher and Amara peacefully napped on the adjacent seat.

The handler already knew that Dante was looking for the witch, but since she had plenty of work to take care of after the defeat of the Onyx Cartel, she couldn't support the warlock in his search as much as she wanted.

Of course, she still agreed to lend a hand with the transport and communication, which was all Dante needed at that moment.

"I'll send someone from the team with you as well. As powerful as you are, I'm not comfortable sending you alone when there is a secret organization targeting you." Camille elaborated, and Dante didn't mind the thought of a companion.
