Chapter 387: Isidor’s Guilt
After Isidor heard Dante talking about his past experiences with goddess Aelara, the cyborg stayed silent for a few seconds, digesting all of the information.
He always knew deep down that the goddess he praised wasn't as kind and forgiving as the tales portrayed her. Still, back then, he convinced himself that all of her actions were done for the greater good.
Now, Isidor felt conflicted. After his soul was transferred to the android's body, he had enough time for his mind to finally settle and organize his thoughts, and he wasn't sure he wanted to keep calling himself a 'holy knight.'
"Then don't. Just call yourself a 'holy cyborg' or something…" Dante half-jokingly commented.
*Sigh* "There is nothing holy about me…" Isidor replied with a sad tone.
"I don't think anyone cares about the details. Besides, you use 'ether' for your spells, right? I think 'holy cyborg' would be the best way to differentiate you from the others…" Dante explained.
Sensing their talk was over, Dante stood up from the couch and lazily stretched his arms, turning to look at Camille and ask if she needed anything else.
Camille had heard that Dante was looking for a person who may not even exist, but considering everything she had seen after Dante's arrival, there weren't many things she wouldn't believe.
When Dante confirmed that he wanted to find a woman who went by the name of Baba-Yaga, Camille nodded in acknowledgment and told the warlock to ask her for help whenever Trinity was done with her investigation.
A few hours later, Dante made his way to the mansion's kitchen, knowing that Sophia had been preparing something.
As he arrived, he spotted Asphodel sitting on the counter, eating a piece of chocolate cake that Sophia had made just for her.
"Ah, hey, little brother!" Asphodel greeted the warlock, prompting him to raise a questioning eyebrow.
"I don't recall becoming a vampire," Dante replied.
Asphodel laughed and loudly slammed the table. "According to that movie, we are siblings now!" she jokingly said.
Tanya's movie had already premiered in theatres all over the world, and in the film, Tanya always referred to Asphodel and Dante as the "crimson-eyed siblings."
The fact that the two of them had similar features, with their eyes and hair color being the same, only convinced the movie watchers that the two of them were indeed brother and sister.
Moreover, the final fight scene in the movie had both Dante and Asphodel fighting against Netherius, so it would be virtually impossible to convince people they weren't related.
"Is that so? And why am I the little brother?" Dante asked.
"I mean, I am older than you…" Asphodel refuted.
Seeing the two of them bickering, Sophia let out a small chuckle that caught their attention. They may not have been related, but the way they talked to each other certainly made them look like siblings.
After bantering with each other, Asphodel expressed her curiosity about the search for the witch.
She revealed that she had heard the name of "Baba-Yaga" before, but she always considered it to be another fairy tale from Earth. Still, for the people of Terra, what seemed like fairy tales could have very well been real events.
Dante asked the vampire mother if she was interested in lending a hand, but Asphodel shook her head in denial.
Although she didn't mind helping Dante in dire battles, she had no interest in searching for a witch who may not even exist.
Nonetheless, there was still a place that Asphodel wanted to show Dante—A small, ancient temple resembling a chapel.
The vampire mother had mentioned it once before. It was a structure she found during her first years on Earth, and she remembered seeing that all of the emblems and insignias that held clues about the place's usefulness were scraped or destroyed.
Even so, Asphodel was able to sense a light source of mana coming from the ancient chapel, prompting her to believe that the structure was hiding something.
Now that the threat of the Onyx Cartel was off their backs, Asphodel was planning on looking for the chapel again, as she fortunately still recalled the rough location of it.
"I was going to take you with me since you are usually more informed about these things than I am…" Asphodel said with an enticing tone.
"I can't say I'm not interested, but I'd rather focus on the witch. People can talk, but a bunch of ancient ruins would take longer to decipher…" Dante replied, inquisitively placing a hand on his chin.
"Fine, fine. I'll postpone our excursion, then," Asphodel continued, turning her attention towards the chocolate cake that Sophia was pulling out of the oven.
After Dante also had a piece of cake, he made his way to the training room near the lab since he had heard that the new recruits were practicing their skills. Moreover, he was curious to see Paige's progress with her so-called "quantum magic."
When he arrived, he saw Vesnia and Megan practicing in a room, and it seemed like the two women were exchanging experiences.
Vesnia taught Megan some of the moves that were signature of the Shadow-Blade assassins, while Megan taught the cyborg mixed martial arts.
In the adjacent room, Zac and Alice were practicing hand-to-hand combat after the redhead personally asked for the ex-detective's help.
Considering he had lost his bat during the fight with Netherius, he believed that he needed to learn a few more moves that didn't require a weapon.
As he kept walking through the corridor, he also spotted Varamor and Sami inside one of the rooms, prompting him to stop out of curiosity.
It was already rare for Dante to see Varamor interacting with other people, but seeing him actively trying to train and help others in the group was a sight he never thought he would see.
'Well, Sami does have the soul frame of a Demon King. That could explain why Varamor offered his help…' Dante thought, continuing his walk towards the lab, where Paige and Wolfram had spent days experimenting with their magic.
