Chapter 1828: Meat Bone
Li Yao completely dissolved their tense emotions and made them understand that they were not fighting against a million troops. After crossing one building after another, Li Yao finally found what he was looking for.
The group was gathered in a ruined giant hall, clustered around a broken stone column in the hall.
"It's actually a Goblin, how could there be a Goblin here?" Iron Tower saw the half-dead Goblin locked in a cage, with a robot wreckage next to it.
Due to the collapse of the roof in this hall, the number of Ogres gathered was very small, only a few dozen, scattered around the hall, making it appear very empty.
Moreover, most of them were snoring soundly by the campfire, with only a few Ogres busying themselves. Despite the busyness, no one could understand what the Ogres were doing, at least they were soldiers, especially the great king's guards, hunting was none of their concern as they had no worries about food or drink.
Two sleepy-eyed Ogres wandered back and forth in the hall, seemingly patrolling, but they didn't even hold their weapons in hand. Instead, each held a piece of meat, eating leisurely as they walked.
Passing by the Goblin, one of the Ogres glanced at the bone with little meat left in his hand and casually tossed it into the cage.
Watching them, the drooling, weak Goblin was initially half-dead, but the moment he saw the meat bone, his dim eyes shone green as he lunged forward and began gnawing on it.
"Damn, you bastard, wasting food, why do you care about that damned green-skin?" complained the Ogre nearby.
"The great king seems to have ordered us to imprison him, maybe he's after his treasure, but he refuses to tell. If he dies, the great king would blame us. Besides, we haven't given him any food for two or three days, have we?" The Ogre scratched his head with greasy hands.
"You're right, I almost forgot if you hadn't reminded me. I remember his companion was made into meat soup last time, and I had a bowl. It was so rotten and stinky, damn, it disgusted me so much that I couldn't eat for half a day. It was heinous, ever since then, I've detested these inedible wastes." The Ogre said, taking a big bite of the juicy roasted meat.
"Hehe, isn't that true? Only an edible fellow is a good mate, and those who aren't should be exterminated."
The two guards continued the topic on food, eagerly discussing whether Trolls or Orcs tasted better.
As the two guards walked away, Iron Tower exclaimed, "My god, they are so savage, just foodies, in their world, is there nothing else but eating?"
Li Yao chuckled, "They pride themselves as the Ancient God World's gourmet connoisseurs. Their dark cuisine recipes are everywhere, not that they haven't been exposed before. Plus, with resources and endless creatures to hunt here, it's natural for them to focus on their culinary arts."
"Alright then, what should we do next?" Blood Rose had no interest in the topic of dark cuisine, especially as mercenaries, they had frequently engaged in missions against Ogres with their employers and once became an Ogre's feast, which was not a pleasant memory.
Li Yao pointed to several places in the hall and said, "Look, this Goblin has set up quite a few things here, just not triggered or lacking materials. Since we encountered it, let's meet with the Goblin first."
Behind the Goblin's cage was a toppled stone column, near the wall, and everyone reached the side of the cage, hidden behind the stone column.
"Give him a bag of water," Li Yao instructed.
The Mage in the team immediately began casting the Create Water spell and then tossed over a bag of magical water.
The Goblin, seeing the water bag at his feet, almost screamed but drank it eagerly before whispering, "Undead, Demon?"
Li Yao deactivated his stealth and then reactivated it, saying, "Wrong, it's the High Elf."
"Oh my goodness, finally a living person, I thought I was going to die in this damned place. I saw with my own eyes my poor guard made into meat soup. Damn, I spent two Gold Coins hiring him, and he died before his term ended." Despite lowering his voice, the Goblin's voice was still sharp.
"If you don't want to be made into meat soup yourself, you better keep your voice down a little," Li Yao said.
"Alright, I was just too excited," whispered the Goblin, "Adventurer, save me. If you get me out of this damned place, I'll reward you with three Gold Coins, oh no, two Gold Coins."
Everyone felt a bit dizzy, and Li Yao shrugged, "Very well, continue enjoying your once-every-three-days meat bone then."
"Ah, you can't do this, those are two Gold Coins, two cuties, my lifeline, how can you refuse?" The Goblin was in disbelief, looking at Li Yao as if he were an idiot.
"I'm not in the mood to play games with you," Li Yao said flatly, "I'll give you one more chance to speak. If it's not satisfactory, then sorry."
"Damn it, you're a more dreadful trader than a Goblin," muttered the Goblin, "How about this, next to me is the goods robot. If you can repair it, the robot and all the cargo inside will be yours. That's all my property."
"You Goblins have a saying: a Goblin who doesn't aspire to become a Trade Prince isn't a good Goblin. As long as the price is right, you can even sell your mothers. Naturally, I don't expect many Gold Coins from you. But this deal, I agree," Li Yao said.
The Goblin looked proudly at Li Yao, not believing that Li Yao could repair his robot, thinking that Li Yao would have to turn to him for a satisfactory price later.
Li Yao didn't expose him but said, "Your pre-prepared traps are quite good, the extreme freezing one, what a pity, it's cheap for me now. Wait here, don't move, I'll go activate those traps."
With that, Li Yao wandered through the hall. He found the Goblin was not bad, as he had set up many traps near the entrance, but they hadn't been activated or were damaged.
Being a Hunter and a master engineer, repairing the extreme freeze traps was a piece of cake for Li Yao.
In about a quarter of an hour, most traps were repaired. This time, he came well-prepared, bringing various materials along.
This Goblin seemed unintentionally significant but was actually part of the instance's process. Naturally, the task reward wasn't the main concern but rather some sort of tool inside the goods robot.
"Alright, Hunter, stand near the back door, use the Eagle Eye Technique to watch the outside situation. Other flexible professions, disperse and wait for my order to lure all the Ogres in the hall over here. Iron Tower, stay by this stone column. If you see that great king's guard team's captain, hold the aggro. Two healers stand on either side, assist those in trouble..."
