Chapter 1827: Infiltration

The Gordok Ogres are one of the orc clans that fled after being crushed in the second Orc War. They are considered a relatively formidable clan among the ogres.

In those days, the evil Magician Guldan used the nodes of the high elves to establish an array, in an attempt to reverse the declining tide of the war. Not only did he summon ogre clans loyal to him from across dimensions, but he also used magic to catalyze them, turning them all into two-headed ogres.

After their defeat, the ogres scattered and fled. The Gordok landed from the Dustwallow Marsh, prepared to take root in this dim swamp along with allied clans.

However, their territory was defeated by the draconid army of the Black Dragon Princess, forcing them to continue southward migration. They eventually discovered Dire Maul and settled north of it, finally stabilizing.

Over the years, they have lived without worries about food and clothing. Although the city is inhabited by ghostly elves, mutated monsters, and pesky demons, they have stayed out of each other's way until the Sub-dimension Ogres arrived here.

Initially, the Sub-dimension Ogres attempted diplomacy, aiming to merge and annex them, but naturally, it ended in displeasure. They didn't worry about food and clothing here, so why should they listen to the rubbish of the Sub-dimension? Furthermore, although they are all ogres, they don't belong to the same primary dimension, and there's no sense of belonging whatsoever.

Later, minor conflicts broke out between them, causing the Gordok Ogres to begin martial law, full of vigilance against their so-called kin.

Now, under the cover of an Invisibility Scroll, Li Yao led his small team zigzagging through this area, with signs of ogres everywhere. Moreover, it was still early, and most of the ogres were still in slumber, which provided them with a lot of convenience.

"There must be quite a number of ogres here, it feels a bit overwhelming," Iron Tower said with some anxiety.

"It's hard to estimate, but as a race, occupying such a vast area, the population seems rather dense, apparently not less than tens of millions," Blood Rose followed Li Yao around another long corridor and arrived at a plaza, surrounded by buildings filled with ogres, and even a large number of ogres sleeping around a bonfire directly on the plaza.

Li Yao did not rashly enter the buildings but said, "The hierarchy of Gordok ogres is very strict, but it's still orderly. What we passed through in the outermost area are the Gordok defense troops, stationed to fend off monsters from other areas and attacks from neighboring sub-dimensional ogres. The middle is the civilian area, and now we are almost at the core area, which is the great king's guard area. The ogres here are either formidable soldiers or influential ogres. As for the number of Gordok ogres, as far as I know, the population is about several million, but the exact number is unclear; it's almost an entire population of soldiers. The elite army seems to be two to three million strong."

"Damn."

Though they anticipated it, hearing Li Yao's introduction still made their legs go weak.

"Boss, you can't be joking, right? We're just ten people. If they send even a small group, we're finished. Your plan is to subdue this clan, which is simply impossible," Iron Tower voiced everyone's thoughts.

Because the plan was insanely crazy, it was almost like a joke, ten against millions, how would that work?

"Ahem, I feel the same way, the Sub-dimension ogres are so strong, and yet they couldn't make the Gordok ogres submit, but we're just a few people."

Li Yao waved his hand, "You guys don't have to worry about anything else, just follow my orders. I won't let you face millions of ogres head-on. Precisely because the Gordok ogres are a formidable deterrent to the sub-dimensional ogres, I must subdue them. Moreover, as long as you follow instructions, nothing unexpected will happen, don't worry, I never fight battles I can't win."

There was one more thing Li Yao did not say, which is that his foundation was currently too weak. He seemed powerful, but that was only in comparison to other players.

Becoming a great lord, he was essentially a commander without an army.

The troops under his command would be severely insufficient. The Worm Tribe could assist in city defense, but they couldn't serve as garrisons.

The Starfire Guild's army wasn't small, but the Starfire Guild itself had a lot of territory, and that bit of army was just a drop in the ocean.

As for the Withered Sun Legion, the Ghost Land was still very empty. Sending some key members over to help manage here was possible, but moving the army was out of the question.

Therefore, the Gordok ogres must be subdued; they would become the main defense force for his new territory. As for this war, he wouldn't let the ogres suffer too many losses, focusing mainly on deterrence, relying on the Worm Tribe to deplete the opponent.

Li Yao's ideal scenario was to subdue the Gordok ogres and then drive away the Sub-dimension ogres, hopefully capturing some of them. Only having tens of millions of ogres could he dare to claim a main city; otherwise, it would be a joke.

Of course, there was no need to share this with them. Explaining a bit was already good enough, as they were mercenaries.

Despite feeling timid, the team still believed Li Yao could create another miracle after the demigod incident.

Li Yao pondered for a moment and said, "Prepare to use the second scroll in a moment, then we'll enter the hall."

Everyone nodded, and the instant the scroll's effect disappeared, Li Yao immediately activated the second group Invisibility Scroll and cautiously entered a large building.

Judging by the size of the building, it was probably a temple. When they entered the hall and saw the silver light streaming from the dome, they realized it was once a magnificent Temple of the Moon God.

However, now it was filled with ogres, and entering the rear hall, they could still see a dust-covered, dilapidated Moon God statue. There was no need to think — the ogres wouldn't clean; not destroying it already showed the utmost respect they could offer the Moon God.

"Damn, these ogres actually set up tents under the Moon God statue, what nerves! The Moon God is the only True God," Iron Tower muttered.

Li Yao shook his head slightly, "The Moon God doesn't care about so-called belief at all. Allowing beings to believe already is her grace to followers, she has transcended this level."

"According to our Chinese saying, it seems to be akin to a state close to Tao, and from my reading, it seems the Moon God has acted so few times since ancient times that you can count them on one hand," Blood Rose said.

"At least in the game, to her, the masses are merely another form of cycle, a different form of existence, life or death doesn't matter," Li Yao sighed, "Yet, the term unparalleled suits the Moon God; truly unforgettable."

"What, boss, have you actually met the Moon God?" Iron Tower looked at Li Yao in astonishment.

"Seen once, very striking, but it was just a fleeting glimpse," Li Yao briefly recounted having unintentionally glimpsed the moon while acquiring the god's eye.

All the way, following Li Yao's narration, they also forgot their tension, achieving the effect Li Yao desired...
