MHA: Super My Hero Record

Chapter 8: Ch: 08

"All Might!? What's that wound...!?"

At the home of Goku, now known as Goto Shintaro, Sir Night Eye and Nezu, the principal of U.A. High School, had been invited into the living room. Gathered around a hot pot, they listened to various stories about All Might from Night Eye, now called Sasaki Mirai.

The content was almost identical to what I had heard directly from All Might himself, so I'll spare you the details. However, hearing about All Might's battles from his perspective was quite intense and brutal.

He had lost his mentor, paid a heavy price in lives, and finally defeated the great evil known as All For One. Even after that victory, he continued to sacrifice himself as the Symbol of Peace to protect the safety and well-being of others.

And so, Mirai argued, it was enough now. With the emergence of a new No. 1 hero, half of All Might's burden had been lifted. Since he had fought for the people all this time, he should now live for himself. Sasaki Mirai urged Yagi Toshinori to retire as a hero, but... the answer was a firm NO.

Toshinori told him there were still things left to do, and Mirai tried to speak up again—

But seeing the abdomen that peeked out from under the slowly rolled-up shirt, he was stunned into silence.

"What the hell?! The wound that the doctor said was beyond repair, it's getting lighter?!"

"Ah, but there's still plenty of red and black left. It looks painful when you press here."

"Yeah. The doctor told me to avoid greasy foods for now."

"I told you so! Meat-based meals are still too soon. Even if it's healing quickly, the fact remains that it's still a serious condition."

"Well, I saw some stir-fried pork on TV yesterday that looked so delicious..."

"No, that sheepish 'hehe' won't cut it. If you end up with an upset stomach, you'll be a burden on all of us!"

While the two top heroes chatted cheerfully, Night Eye's face was a picture of absolute bewilderment. The information that had been established as fact was completely overturned, and since it directly concerned the safety of someone he admired, the shock was immense.

Principal Nezu couldn't hide his distress either, but Night Eye was on another level entirely. His eyes were wide open as if he were about to shatter his glasses, completely destroying the composed character he had maintained until now.

"Well, thanks to him, my body is showing signs of recovery. The burden of hero activities is gradually becoming lighter."

"Wait, but... how did you manage that!?"

"That's..."

"This!"

"Beans!?"

This time, Night Eye's glasses were finally shattered by his own bulging eyes. His mouth gaped open, nearly dislocating his jaw, and he looked like a comical gag character.

Back in his internship days, he used to value humor despite his serious expression, yet now there wasn't a trace of that composure left. Had he completely changed his character? Night Eye, who was now lying face-down on the table, was being looked down upon by Gogeta, who was cheerfully stuffing his cheeks with hot pot ingredients.

"Um... Goto-kun, did you make those beans?"

"Yes. I got them from the local greengrocer out of kindness, and they transformed after I gave them my power. They're 'mock senzu beans.' Currently, I'm having Shundan-san monitor them, and I hope to eventually make them effective for limb regeneration."

"What?"

This time, Principal Nezu made an equally ridiculous face.

"That reaction... Ah, maybe this is really serious? Could this revolutionize medical technology?"

"Revolution? It'll blow the entire foundation to pieces."

The usually gentle-looking principal was now completely serious. Even Principal Nezu, who always put his students first and was known as the most virtuous person in the current individualistic society, couldn't help but take this man's actions with the utmost gravity.

"You're such a troublemaker. You've always been up to something, but haven't you been getting worse lately?"

"What? Mr. Nezu, was he really that much of a troublemaker?"

"His 'troublemaking days' are legendary, not just at U.A., but even within the Hero Committee. He barely passed the written exam for the entrance test, but in the practical exam, he not only dominated but completely obliterated all the targets. He even rescued a candidate who fell during the exam, and from the very beginning, his name was etched into U.A.'s history."

"Hey, Principal."

"Especially the annual zero-point virtual enemy event, he destroyed it so thoroughly that it even affected another venue! Man, that was the first time I ever had to organize a retake for a high school entrance exam!"

"Wow, Jintan, you're something else!"

"There's more. During his workplace experience, he crushed the spirits of the heroes at his assigned location, and during his provisional license exam, he caused all the students except those from his own school to fail, forcing them to retake the exam!"

The endless stream of misdeeds from Goto Shintaro's student days poured out of Principal Nezu's mouth, and while Nezu spoke with a self-deprecating tone, All Might, aka Yagi Toshinori, listened intently with sparkling eyes, captivated by his partner's heroic tales.

"Hold on a second. I have an objection to that! After that incident, they took me to a different venue and suddenly made me take a rescue exam! Just me alone!"

He recalled the brutal rescue exam: the earthquake disaster, the power outage caused by lightning, the houses collapsing due to fire, and the tsunami approaching from the distance. He had to handle every possible disaster rescue scenario, including villains attacking him, all by himself.

The scene at the time was pure hell. Crying victims of all ages, in a life-or-death situation where every second counted, he had to navigate through it all alone. Under the crushing weight of responsibility, he managed to save everyone, even overwhelming the villain who was supposed to test the hero, and passed the provisional license exam on his first try.

"And what's more, even though I accomplished all that, my performance back then was completely kept secret! I mean, it still is. Even the Hero Committee is being too harsh!"

"Wasn't it you who was egging on those committee members? 'Let me do it, I'll give it my all,' wasn't that what you said?"

"Jintan?"

"..."

Shintaro laughed off Shintaro's accusations and delivered a sharp retort. It was clearly his own doing, and Shintaro could only turn away as Shintaro looked at him in confusion.

"Well, you were the first major problem child in U.A. history, but now you're the No. 1 hero standing shoulder to shoulder with All Might. Regardless of the process, I... I'm proud of you."

"Principal... um, do I sense a lot of emotion in your words, or is that just my imagination?"

"Did you say something?"

"Ah, no... nothing."

Probably because he's been through so much. All Might decided to interpret the emotionless gaze of Principal Nezu toward Goto Shintaro as the loving discipline of a teacher.

"Your past mistakes don't matter anymore."

"Night Eye?"

Then, Night Eye, who had been silent until now, began to move. He adjusted his broken glasses and straightened his posture, and a look of relief appeared in his eyes.

"Thank you, Gogeta. Thanks to you, All Might has a new future."

"Night Eye. You wouldn't be thinking of reading my future again..."

"It was unclear."

"Huh?"

"At that time, I saw your future and despaired. A gruesome death—I had already given up on any hope of escaping it. That future... is no longer visible."

"Hm? Hm?"

"However, in that unclear future, I caught a faint glimpse of you smiling. Not as All Might, but as Yagi Toshinori."

It seemed like all sorts of emotions were swirling between the two of them. For some reason, despite being in his own home, Jinda felt a sense of alienation and accepted the bowl offered to him by the small animal.

"I apologize for seeing your future without permission. I will accept any punishment. But please, just listen to this. Thank you, All Might. Thank you for staying alive. Thank you, Gogeta. For keeping him alive."

With tears and snot streaming down his face, Night Eye thanked him, and All Might smiled...

"Oh, you're welcome."

Gogeta opened the bag of udon noodles with a decisive expression.

"Oh, right, right. We hadn't gotten to the main part of the story yet!"

"Huh? Was there something else?"

"You already finished the udon noodles?"

"You should put down the food for now."

After finishing the hot pot and the udon noodles, Principal Nezu brought up the topic again.

"Well, I forgot because of Goto's ridiculous antics, but the main topic was this!"

"Huh? Did I do something?"

"Stop that."

Night Eye scolded Shintaro, who seemed genuinely confused.

"But first, Gogeta and All Might, the Hero Committee has ordered you two to suspend your activities."

"—What!?"

Goku and All Might's expressions turned to shock as the small animal, laughing like a mascot, declared something unbelievable.

"Suspended from activities!?"

"Did we do something wrong!?"

Up until now, All Might and Goku had been working together as heroes to protect Japan's safety and peace, each fulfilling their own roles.

All Might, a superhuman capable of traversing the entire country alone, and Gogeta, a superhuman with the same abilities. Their exploits were already known throughout Japan, and this year's crime rate was far below average.

Not only villain crimes, but also natural disasters saw a significant decrease in damage thanks to their efforts.

Suddenly, an order to suspend their activities was issued to the two, who had been consistently achieving such results. Unable to accept this, the two stood up, but Principal Nezu urged them to calm down.

"Calm down. There's nothing wrong with what you've done. Your achievements are already well-known to the Hero Committee, and Goku, you have even become a 'Symbol of Hope' deeply rooted in Japanese society."

"What? Then... why?"

"You've become too powerful. Both of you."

"What do you mean?"

"As heroes. Your activities have undoubtedly contributed greatly to maintaining peace and order in Japan."

"Could it be..."

"Shundan-san?"

"However, this also means you are taking away opportunities for other heroes to shine."

The eyes behind Night Eye's new glasses pierced the two. With the recent emergence of the opinion that Japan would be safe as long as All Might and Gogeta were around, the Hero Committee, sensing a crisis, hastily issued this order.

The two of them are truly treasures for Japan, and that is certainly what many people think and feel. However, at the same time, it also means that other heroes are being deprived of opportunities to shine and grow.

Heroes are also human. As humans, without sufficient experience to draw upon, they cannot respond swiftly or take decisive action when the time comes.

This could lead to someone being killed or left to die at some point in the future. Fearing such a possibility, the Hero Committee decided to grant Gogeta and All Might a break, euphemistically called a "suspension of activities."

"In short, that's the gist of it."

"Wow, the higher-ups really think of everything, don't they?"

"So, does that mean we just get to rest during that time?"

"No, All Might still has other matters to attend to."

The so-called hiatus, which essentially meant they could train, made Shintaro excited for a moment. However, Principal Nezu turned his gaze toward All Might and made a serious proposal.

"All Might, would you consider becoming a teacher at our school?"

It was a ritual to find a successor to inherit One For All. Yagi Toshinori's eyes widened at the offer from his former alma mater.
