Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Scary Monsters
The next morning back at the Brandon cottage, Dio's eyes shot wide open. He glanced around to find that he was snuggled between his parents in their bed, his mother lying on her back holding a basin on her stomach while still asleep. His dad on his right-hand side was snoring away. Before he could move away from them to get off the bed, the memories of last nights ordeal played through his head. He paused.
"I GOT MY QUIRK!!" he shouted whilst jumping up and down shaking the bed. His mother and father stirred awake from his shouting. His father turned over in his bed before gently throwing a pillow towards Dio.
"Be quieter, you got to sleep last night but me and your mother were up all night worrying about you." Robert grumbled.
"Robert don't be like that, he's just excited to finally have his quirk. But Dio dear, mum and dad are tired, so we are going to go back to sleep, its only 5am." Maria spoke calmly but with a slight slur of her voice. "If you're not in any pain go and lie down for a few more hours or go have a nice warm shower before we get up and make you some breakfast. How does that sound?"
"Yeah okay, but after can we go and see what my quirk can do?" Dio inquired to his parents.
"Sure thing son. But we will have to wait for the doctor's report to get back to us before we try anything that could hurt you." Robert replied sitting up in the bed slightly.
"Thanks dad!" he waved to his parents, before trotting out of their room and into his own.
--
A few hours later Dio and his father could be seen with an assortment of seemingly random equipment and objects lying around them, ranging from wooden planks, poles and bricks top metal bars.
"Are you sure you want to try to bite that? It might hurt your teeth a little bit." Robert warned Dio.
"I think it'll be okay; we can always ask mum to heal me if I get hurt. Right?" asked Dio.
"Well, she could, but I still don't want to see you hurt Dio." Robert said.
With a small nod towards Dio the boy picked up the metal pole. It was hollow on the inside, but it was still a few centimetres thick. Dio positioned the bar in front of his mouth before carefully and slowly beginning to bite down on the bar, his sharpened teeth pierced through the outside after a little pressure was applied. But as he tried to sink his teeth in any further he found that his jaw strength couldn't keep up with his teeth.
Pulling it back out his mouth he held it up to show his father. "Dad, look! It went through!" he exclaimed.
"Good job son." He said proudly. "Did it hurt any?"
"No? I'm not sure, it felt a little bit sore I think, but not my teeth." Dio replied.
"That's good news. But now knowing how sharp your teeth are now you can't be messing around in case you bite your own mouth. And definitely no play biting my arm anymore." Robert says sternly.
"Okay I promise to be careful." Dio says.
"And...?" says Robert.
"Not to play bite you anymore." Dio says with a small grin on his face.
"Good." Robert nods. "Now we will have to leave it there, I must help your mother. Theres a new recuse horse arriving tonight, but we can continue some practice tomorrow if you'd like?" He continues
"Okay, can I go watch the horses?" Dio asks.
"Sure thing son, just don't do anything dangerous or your mother will have my head." Robert chuckles.
Later in the evening, out in the grassy horse field Dio lay on the opposite side of the fence from where the horses lived. He was staring up to the sky as it began to darken as night approached and clouds started to fill the sky, creating a dark overcast.
He had been think all day about how he would use his quirk to help make the super secrete base with JoJo. He could carve out the door and windows, maybe make some furniture.
'I wonder what JoJo's going to think of my quirk. Its not as cool as his, but I like it.' He smirked whilst twirling a grass blade hanging outside his mouth with his tongue.
Looking at the dark sky that was threatening to rain he started to get up ready to walk down the path to get back home. He paused for a moment. 'I could run through the field again, I did it last time. I'm sure it'll be fine.'
He began to run through the field, the rapid approaching darkness and lack of moonlight made it difficult to traverse the bumpy terrain. He heard a snort to his right and turned in fright, losing his balance and tumbling to the ground after misplacing his foot. He heard a sickening crunch. Then. Pain.
He had broken his leg and cut his hand on a sharp rock in the ground as he tried to break his fall. He began crying.
From the darkness approached a horse startled from the noise made by Dio, who the horse had recognised. The thoroughbred racing horse was a gentle soul, and weighted an impressive 400 kilograms. It came over to where the boy lay crying in pain. It lowered its head down to smell the boy, then licking the open wound on the boys arm.
Dio in his pain didn't notice the horse standing over him, he was curled up crying for his mother and father.
The rest of the horses came over from different parts of the field to check out the commotion. Whilst they made their approach scales began to form on the horse that had licked Dio's wound, its eyes dilated, and front legs shortened growing claws at the end of them. Completely changing into another creature.
Dio's yells died down as his energy combined with the pain took a hold of him and he slipped into unconsciousness unaware of the next events.
--
Back at the cottage the house phone began to ring. Maria sat up from her small desk to move over and grab it, but before she could Robert spoke up.
"I'll get it dear." he moved to the phone before picking it up. "Hello Brandon residence. Who is it?"
Maria glanced over at him. His face neutral at first began to contort into a small scowl before becoming a full frown. He turned to glance at Maria.
"Are you sure?" he replied to the person at the other end of his phone. They caller spoke once more causing Robert's face to adopt a serious expression. "No, I'm not sure where he is right now." "Right, I will go and find him as soon as possible." With that he hung up the phone after listening to the caller for a few more seconds.
"Robert, what was that about?" Maria asked with a concerned look on her face.
"It's the doctor's, they think there is more to Dio's quirk than just his teeth. His blood transformed the lab equipment into something else. They think his quirk is still coming in and are worried that he could cause something to transform." He moved to grab his coat and personal phone from his seat.
"They said his blood looked like a virus. A local hero and the police are on their way to make sure whatever the virus may be doesn't spread." He spoke once more, moving to the door as he spoke.
"Oh god." Maria paled. "Where is Dio!"
"He's out by the horses. I will go and get him!" Robert shouted back as he left the house, forgetting to close the door in his hasty departure.
When He left the house, he started to run to the right of the house, stumbling slightly due to the darkness. Aiming to run up the path that ran alongside the horse's field. He knew Dio would be near the top; it was his favourite place to be during the daytime. As he made it roughly halfway towards the top, panting heavily from the run, he heard a might roar from his left. Its ferocity made his heart skip a beat, his fight or flight instinct kicking in in full force.
"F*ck."
He immediately pushed through the hedge row obscuring his vison and jumped the fence into the middle of the field.
"DIO! WHERE ARE YOU DIO!?" he screamed in desperation. The roars were becoming more numerous, louder and even more furious, now he could even hear hooves and horses neighing as they ran away from whatever caused the roars.
He could see some silhouettes half the width of the field away. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and shook it to turn on the torch. His eyes widened as the light hit the creature.
It stood on two hind legs, its head reached over 3 meters in height.
A dinosaur.
It stopped and looked at Robert, sizing him up. Its teeth were bared, reptilian eyes trained onto his form. Its front arms had knifelike claws flexed close to its chest. It let out a low growl before another appeared from the darkness behind it, they began to circle around Robert slowly.
Robert's phone dropped from his hands leaving him to scramble in the dark once more. He heard one more roar before his body was flung to the ground with force. A sharp unbearable pain around his back and neck, something caught in his stomach and weight on his lower half before everything went dark with a sickening crunch. The smell of blood permeating throughout the air.
--
It had been only a few minutes since Robert had left the house, but she was getting nervous and decided to go look herself. She went out to the field with a powerful torch that was used to check on the horses during storm nights. She crossed the road; in the distance she could now hear sirens and further in the distance and bright light was flying towards her location.
She had to find Dio. Standing at the edge of the fence she aimed the powerful light beam upwards to the left side of the field see what was going on, to see if she could see Dio, hopefully on his way home. Before she could angle the light towards the right hand side she heard something running towards her at a very fast pace, but not the four hooves of a horse like it would normally be.
"Guuhh…."
She was flung to the ground landing with a thud and hitting her head against the ground behind her, she scrambled backwards aiming to get into the house. Whatever had hit into her had also broke through the fence and landed with a heavy thud at her side. Her hair obscured everything but a scaly tail the length of her entire body. They both scrambled to their feet at the same time, she made a break for the doorway.
"ROOARR"
She didn't make it fully into the house before she was once again sent tumbling to the ground, this time knocked out cold bleeding extensively from her head. A small mercy for the fate that was install for her.
No longer than fifty seconds later a person surrounded by an armour made of light landed with a thud in the field outside the cottage. She rose tall immediately illuminating a large area around her revealing the horde of dinosaurs in the area.
"What on earth?" she spoke as she glanced at the towering creatures around her with a scowl on er face. She noticed the blood stains around the edges of a few mouths, claws dripping with fresh blood. A sword of light appeared within her right hand, a shield in her left as she prepared to take down the hostile creatures.
Along the dirt track that led to the cottage the sirens of police cars could be heard approaching at an incredible speed.
They were too late.
